yeah atleast the hole was necessary to fit the turbo which makes you go faster. the aftermarket fuel tank, believe it or not, isn't improving his performance lol "Its got a high-flow filler down pipe, quad-ported air vents, double-baffled check valves.. this tank can pull 50hp on the dyno alone"
Euphorica Not only is it ugly, it's not durable and offers no benefits except "look at me' A much better approach would be a boot/trunk mounted surge tank which is firewalled off so it does not smell... it could even be in the rear quarter panel... There is no need for this massive wank of a fuel system that belongs on a '68 Camaro, not an E28. BUT that is just how I would do it... Still love the car and the owner is awesome for taking it this far...
+ArchimedeanEye why is it not durable? As for the rest, thats your opinion. thats fine. I am somewhat inclined to agree with most of it. Looks like he went shopping at pep boys. Too much chrome for me.
+Euphorica My issue is the safety aspect. These cars are as he mentioned fitted with a rear mounted fueltank (an idiotic concept from usually level minded BMW engineers) , and is a small disaster on hard impact from behind. He has just fitted a match on the underside of that tank. If there is an high obstacle in the road, like rock, road debree or a suprising speed hump and that rips off or rippes a hole in that lining/tank it's spits fuel all over at full pumping speed. Or an evasive manouver ending up in a ditch. Pouring fuel all over. It's a disaster waiting to happen if he even is in a small incident. No to mention people messing with the exposesed lines.
+oddisPProductions he should have put a simple surge tank between the rear strut towers. Problem solved and no tank and fuel lines hanging low to get snagged, smacked or cracked. Poorly executed.
He seems like the type of guy who goes in a bike shop with his full carbon bike and complains that the fork is too heavy. If you've worked at a bike shop before you know what I'm talking about.
Engineer meaning mechanic, or the guy that comes to fix your boiler is a heating engineer, I doubt this person look at any heat transfer or air flow figures.
Sam Wayne Aren't everyone engineers these days? Sure sounds like it.. I dont even think the car would be road legal in Norway, with the fuel pump and hoses hanging under like that.
+Vx REVO xV You know cars come from the factory with exposed fuel lines... they are just black rubber and not shiny braided line. many cars with upgraded fuel systems run their lines like that. I swear the vast majority of comments here are by kids who have never modified a car in real life before and have no idea.
Is he an engineer or something? This guy is ridiculously smart! Those fuel lines and fuel pump hangers are completely aerospace standards. And that vent in the bonnet, just awesome.
I like how it hasn't just been slammed to the ground or had massive wheels put on it like most others that people modify them. That stature on it is very nice.
"I wanted the car to look stock" He then proceeds to make a hole in the bonnet and put the fuel system under the rear bumper. I'm not sure I understand his definition of stock.
I own a 87 535is and I know what great cars they are. I congratulate you for getting done....a little over the top for me but it's yours. A lot of people want to build but only a few do...or can. Unfortunately every one talks! Keep building.
+PurgatoryVLM Maybe he is an engineer..? If he calls him self an engineer, he most probably is an engineer. If somebody calls himself a bus driver, then he is a bus driver, no reason to lie.
+Long Dong That's not the work of an engineer. Fuel lines hanging off the car, a hole in the hood? It's definitely Flashy, but not the product of an engineer.
+PurgatoryVLM it's just his taste, and there's nothing wrong with that. Just because we've seen a video of it doesn't mean we know what he gone through to make such choices...
As a Mechanical Engineering student, I agree with PurgatoryVLM. Those fuel lines hanging out in the open (and so close to the rear bumper) present some cautions, like in the event of a big rear impact. However, It is the man's own car, so if he wants to take that risk, he can.
When a self proclaimed ''engineer'' says ''lets not get into details'' when the conversation gets technical, you know he's a phony. A GT3582R would have been better suited for this engines flow characteristics.
Amazing, it's a really impressive build, It's so clean. What impresses me is that this guy took 10 years to restore it, the attention to detail is just, in his words "unreal"
+frosty95xy Yeah, the interior is really nice, but on the outside with all those bits hanging off underneath, the screamer pipes and the hole in the bonnet - you'd be pulled off the road and stickered by the cops in 15 minutes where I live for any one of those. Also that kind of power in a 30 year old chassis, I hope he checked all the main stress points - particularly with how poorly welded 80's BMW's are.
+KevinTheFirefighter thats like saying he should have built a x5.....he likes that gen bmw and in the end it doesn't matter the cost its about how "that" car makes you feel. its the reason why the car scene isn't a total wash out. At the same time you really dont know how much he has into that car. people assume with my car i have 15+k into it, but in reality I've only got 4.5k in modds which net me 400+ awhp
I love how he emphasizes the emotion of driving the car and the cars personality over just peak power output figures. You can really tell this is a product of one mans vision, his vision, perfected and made into reality. I think he totally nailed his goal of building a car that "BMW might have built... had they taken some amphetamines".. excellent work!
Car throttle, you need to make an app. You could put early videos, car memes, forums, etc (just some examples). There is an huge gap in the App Store for car apps, and you need to change that! :) Who agrees with me?
This guy has built the car of his dreams, while also understanding how to do it in a safe and responsible manner. I really admire that. And to top it all off, he got his father supporting him all the way!
Trying not to be critical but I keep hearing, "I'm an engineer" - the fuel pump and filters are all over the back. There's nothing "factory fit" about your fuel system hanging out of the trunk and a hole cut in the hood. Sorry man. Also, what engineer decided a GT42X is a proper turbo for that car with only 500 hp?
Dude , nice to see you got it on the road. I remember when after the crash you was stripping it for parts. I bought the old blue recaro interior off you and some body panels off the orange one.....:) Glad to see you decided to sort it out and not scrap the old girl......
+SirBoostAl0t a ricer is someone thats puts shit on their car that not even have a function, putting it on the car to look fast, this thing is fucking fast
+Siggy Cloud It's called an accent, here in the UK you can talk to someone with an accent then drive 20 miles and the next person you talk to will sound completly different.
+Siggy Cloud I'm a Brummy with a Brummy accent, if I drive around 15 miles into Dudley, they speak with an accent people call YamYam, I find it hard understanding them and they live around a 45 min drive from me.
BMW man from my world, Thankx for the advise about the engine is a good thought as i have the m30b35 right hand drive and the exhaust side is nothing but a pain. Also any that likes E28's check out Sema 2015 this year
I've always wanted an E28 M5 and this makes me want one even more. Personally I would have put the turbo pipe coming out of the front fender, have a little hood vent for the turbo and tidy up the rear with a subtle rear bumper. Other than that, a gorgeous car and an excellent example :D
That's a great car. The E28 is a real beauty to my eye. And this builder has a) done a beautiful job of creating the car that he wants, and b) actually saved one of these fine classics. Plus, it's not always a given in these videos, he comes across really well and speaks eloquently of his passion. Top job all round. Love it. A massive thumbs up from me!
Great looking car. Awesome what was done under the hood. Don't like the exposed fuel components peeking out the back, but hey it's not mine. None the less a great BMW build.
If it wasn't for the snail sticking out from the hood and the screamer pipe out the side this would be the perfect sleeper. Fair play to the chap for tryng to keep the stock look exspesially the wheels.
"designed to look factory"
fuel tank and fuel lines hang out the back near the exhaust.. mkay
+rasvial And the turbo is peeking out the bonnet lol
+rasvial get hits in the back car explode. Lmao
+Pixel dirt because it sits too high to close the bonnet
yeah atleast the hole was necessary to fit the turbo which makes you go faster.
the aftermarket fuel tank, believe it or not, isn't improving his performance lol
"Its got a high-flow filler down pipe, quad-ported air vents, double-baffled check valves.. this tank can pull 50hp on the dyno alone"
+rasvial he should have found a way to internally mount the fuel pumps so that it would be factory.
nice car, but the fuel system is terrible at rear...
+ArchimedeanEye have you ever built an aftermarket fuel system before? You may find it ugly, but thats how many high powered cars do it.
Euphorica Not only is it ugly, it's not durable and offers no benefits except "look at me' A much better approach would be a boot/trunk mounted surge tank which is firewalled off so it does not smell... it could even be in the rear quarter panel... Poorly executed.
He seems like the type of guy who goes in a bike shop with his full carbon bike and complains that the fork is too heavy. If you've worked at a bike shop before you know what I'm talking about.
+Stephen Bergman Nice car, not so sure about the owner though.
+Stephen Bergman more money than engineering :P When he talked about this turbo being the perfect size for the engine, top kek.
+Stephen Bergman He is propably hitting 1.1bar at 4,200RPM.
+MindBlowerWTF - I'm not familiar with this term. What does "bar" mean?
knytrydr73 Its another form of gauging pressure. Its metric I think. But 1 bar is 14.5 psi
Fairly sure this guy is probably an assassin on the side
lol!
Or a fucking transporter.
First thing I thought when I saw the car and the gloves matched to the accent.
"Black eagle"
"I'm an engineer"/"let's not get into details" completely negates this dudes legitimacy.
Engineer meaning mechanic, or the guy that comes to fix your boiler is a heating engineer, I doubt this person look at any heat transfer or air flow figures.
as an engineering student i dont understand why he (as an engineer) puts this fuel lines in that position. he should cover that parts at least.
+Vx REVO xV Yeah, makes no sense.
I by engineer he means mechanic not degree qualified engineer 😂
Sam Wayne
Aren't everyone engineers these days? Sure sounds like it.. I dont even think the car would be road legal in Norway, with the fuel pump and hoses hanging under like that.
+Vx REVO xV
You're right. It's ridiculous to have fuel lines in such a dangerous area.
+Vx REVO xV You know cars come from the factory with exposed fuel lines... they are just black rubber and not shiny braided line.
many cars with upgraded fuel systems run their lines like that. I swear the vast majority of comments here are by kids who have never modified a car in real life before and have no idea.
wow
Our thoughts exactly
+Car Throttle my thought "much WoW"
+Car Throttle do you live in germany?
+robertas grigas nope england (london)
So why he makes so many videos about german cars?
currently building an e28 myself, loved seeing this!
Cool guy cool car ✌
Is he an engineer or something?
This guy is ridiculously smart!
Those fuel lines and fuel pump hangers are completely aerospace standards.
And that vent in the bonnet, just awesome.
Thought we were watching a Christopher Nolan film there for a second with that intro
+ARMYTRIX
I was gonna comment that, but I read this!!
+ARMYTRIX the car looksnice don't u think ?
+Rexnor17 I was gonna comment that, and then I read this about you almost commenting that but instead commenting this.
ARMYTRIX lol holy shit
That steering wheel! I want one!
Also amazing job on the car, looks absolutely fantastic and is probably the best E28 build I have ever seen.
"Lets not get into details" is something someone that had the car built for him says. Nice car though.
Actually I know for a fact he built every bit of this car himself. Its taken him 10 years to get to this point.
Great to hear of this man's respect and love for his Dad. Great that Dad got involved. Good on you both.
he wears gloves when he drives
fuck sake
boy racer
Sweaty hands can cause your fingers to slip when shifting
+Savage Brad Have you seen How I Met Your Mother
but he is an engineer. :/
+Savage Brad no down side... plus it keeps things clean
Last time I came this early my girlfriend left me😔
Don't worry, you've got us
+Car Throttle Amen to that😂😂
+Car Throttle damn. u thirsty
+Car Throttle lol
+Car Throttle ROFL!
"Factory fit".....?? YOU`VE GOT A TURBO STICKING UP THRU THE HOOD!!
I like how it hasn't just been slammed to the ground or had massive wheels put on it like most others that people modify them.
That stature on it is very nice.
As soon as I saw the gloves...
+Randy Barley ikr....
+One Sick Ass Savage really? driving gloves?
Gave me douche chills tbh:/
+Randy Barley German gay porn
+Chris Dooley lol i said the same thing
Alot of chrome in there
+spit fire Gladly under the bonnet where you can't see it. I hate chrome.
+Long Dong same but in the enging it looks alright but on the outside you look like a ricer
Kasam I only like chrome frames around the windows
a lot*
+Everett Goen stop crying
"I wanted the car to look stock"
He then proceeds to make a hole in the bonnet and put the fuel system under the rear bumper. I'm not sure I understand his definition of stock.
I own a 87 535is and I know what great cars they are. I congratulate you for getting done....a little over the top for me but it's yours. A lot of people want to build but only a few do...or can. Unfortunately every one talks! Keep building.
Cool it is....
Tasteful it is not.
this is why this channel is better then 1320 videos because theres real heart and love that goes into these posts respect.
You guys really need to pay a visit to Sweden so that you can film some proper BMW Turbos. Just saying...
Love the car & love the owners turn of speech and accent "lets not get inta detaihhlllsss" He's a real life Terry Tibbs.
Legend mate!
Some machine!
Calling yourself an engineer, doesn't make you an engineer.
+PurgatoryVLM Maybe he is an engineer..? If he calls him self an engineer, he most probably is an engineer. If somebody calls himself a bus driver, then he is a bus driver, no reason to lie.

+PurgatoryVLM it's just his taste, and there's nothing wrong with that. Just because we've seen a video of it doesn't mean we know what he gone through to make such choices...
+Jalal Helou You're right, but his work is shit.
As a Mechanical Engineering student, I agree with PurgatoryVLM. Those fuel lines hanging out in the open (and so close to the rear bumper) present some cautions, like in the event of a big rear impact. However, It is the man's own car, so if he wants to take that risk, he can.
My father has a "Bavaria" E28, a little bit heavy but it's a great machine, very comfortable for long trips. Great video!
When a self proclaimed ''engineer'' says ''lets not get into details'' when the conversation gets technical, you know he's a phony. A GT3582R would have been better suited for this engines flow characteristics.
Yup and fuel system behind the back of the car oh my godd
Amazing, it's a really impressive build, It's so clean. What impresses me is that this guy took 10 years to restore it, the attention to detail is just, in his words "unreal"
*3:12** Single shear mount for the engine damper, really mister engineer?*
Car is mint thou
I admire a car owner that really knows what hes talking about especially about the car he drives! great video!
A little bit too much for my taste. I like old BMWs in their original state
+frosty95xy Yeah, the interior is really nice, but on the outside with all those bits hanging off underneath, the screamer pipes and the hole in the bonnet - you'd be pulled off the road and stickered by the cops in 15 minutes where I live for any one of those. +Matthew Sharpe Lol i thought that BMW's from 80's were actually made pretty well, didn't know that they were poorly welded.
Exactly
No that's shit and boring
man engine bay looks so clean and mint, everything is so neat and nice, inside looks nice too, its breathtaking.
It screams "classy", mate ;)
I love how he emphasizes the emotion of driving the car and the cars personality over just peak power output figures. You can really tell this is a product of one mans vision, his vision, perfected and made into reality. I think he totally nailed his goal of building a car that "BMW might have built... had they taken some amphetamines".. excellent work!
Im thinking about buying a prius. Do you think I could do drag races with it?
+kiwifix can do whatever your heart contents
+kiwifix yeh you'll be a drag queen in no time!
+kiwifix `look on ebay for electric-turbo's
+kiwifix Sure if you strip it and shoehorn a big V8, 2JZTT or RB26TT under the hood, You'd be loved by everyone at the strip. LOL.
No, you will be hated for putting a RB26TT in a prius, That thing belongs to my Skyline :P
I have been lucky enough to see this car in person and wow this car is absolutely amazing
"I drive the black eagle"
>beige interior
alright then...
you cant hate on this at all he built the car of his dreams made it into a monster and still keeping that clean stock look. respect my man
its an oreo... black on the outside and white on the inside 😉😂
+Gurgumul hahahahahhahahahah XD
Gurgumul ayyyyyyyy ;D
this is the most beautifully restored car i have even seen
Car throttle, you need to make an app. You could put early videos, car memes, forums, etc (just some examples). There is an huge gap in the App Store for car apps, and you need to change that! :)
Who agrees with me?
1:29 When Grim Reaper pass you on the freeway.
Beautiful car.. but the music really took away from it haha
This guy has built the car of his dreams, while also understanding how to do it in a safe and responsible manner. I really admire that. And to top it all off, he got his father supporting him all the way!
Calling his own work "Incredible". Never do that
I believe any car i own is never finished
this is a high quality build I think he's earned it he can call it what ever he wants
+Scott Babcock true
+xXLUEVANOXx Because then you sound like an ass, even if it may be true.
***** Dude no. I like this car but calling your own work "Incredible" makes you sound like a fucking douche
Fantastic vid folks - thank you for sharing. That dude was so honest and passionate - so impressive!!
Fully Restored, cream interior, classic rims, nice paint, big turbo, but still no blinker usage😂😂 love the its mint👌🏾
i'd take stock M5 E28 over this anyday.
I'd take my stock"ish" 328 over that lol.
now this....is what one could call perfection
there are so many things wrong with this car.
Love this guy's philosophy on cars and tuning.
what a sleeper!
+pedro costa A sleeper is a car that looks stock, this car is no sleeper, not with the custom fuel tank hanging and the turbo visible.
This guy is the definiton of passion.
He's just a chav greesemonkey mechanic with a chav car. .. Engineer my hole. ...
Dude , nice to see you got it on the road. I remember when after the crash you was stripping it for parts. I bought the old blue recaro interior off you and some body panels off the orange one.....:) Glad to see you decided to sort it out and not scrap the old girl......
"It looks stock" ITS ALL CHROME WITH A WHOLE IN THE HOOD...ricers 👎🏿
Please tell me you're not being serious about calling him a ricer?
m5 badge grill, 535i rear badge, m5 rims with a chrome "blast pipe", a completely chrome engine bay with a hole in the hood...
+SirBoostAl0t a ricer is someone thats puts shit on their car that not even have a function, putting it on the car to look fast, this thing is fucking fast
its stock modern car fast...and what about chrome makes the car faster again?
+SirBoostAl0t It all has function, apart from the M badge. It's not like it's a civic with 90hp.
Now I want to build my own car. This guy is awsome!
I can't stand the way he talks....I mean. yeh I get he's a geezer but come on.
Prefer the guy with the Civic and the guy with the Evo.
That accent sounds part British (London), Eastern European and something else. Idk, it's not pure British, or Londoner that's for sure.
+JayTubeCA He is albanian thats why.
Leeroy Jones I know it's a fucking accent. I don't like it.
Savage car a thing of beauty
You can easily say blood sweat and tears went into this car
I'm loving the stock look (other than the fuel tank and fuel lines hanging out the back).
This men has accomplished something amazing here.
BMW man from my world, Thankx for the advise about the engine is a good thought as i have the m30b35 right hand drive and the exhaust side is nothing but a pain.
Also any that likes E28's check out Sema 2015 this year
I'm a first year mech engineer. Hoping once i got a job i can start on my car project. Engineers 4 life!!
I've always wanted an E28 M5 and this makes me want one even more. Personally I would have put the turbo pipe coming out of the front fender, have a little hood vent for the turbo and tidy up the rear with a subtle rear bumper. Other than that, a gorgeous car and an excellent example :D
Awesome car, only thing I hated was the music. Seeing more of this genre on car videos
perfect interior design and perfect sound too...
Yet again car throttle blesses us with another video
Nothing like a humble car guy...
Great car, there are not many modded BMWs that look as well balanced/engineered as this one!
"I wanted a car you can drive every day"... No air filter and a hole in the bonnet. Smooth.
nice motor I love seeing an old car in such good condition
I like how clean and detailed it is. Not my cup of tea, but a really nice build. Respect!
5:30 - "wants its to look perfect factory", cuts a hole in the bonnet for a turbo.
Sick car though!
That interior is immaculate!
Stunning mate,I'm an e34 guy but pal that's a nice motor
funniest bit "it looks stock" yeah with a turbo hanging out the bonnet
Saw this in a motorway service station in the summer and it's a monster
Dat turbo whistle *makes that ooooggghhhhh noise*
i love people like this guy
This car, with this engine and a bit more discreet look, would be the PERFECT sleeper
Great looking car. Awesome what was done under the hood. Don't like the exposed fuel components peeking out the back, but hey it's not mine. None the less a great BMW build.
The car is beautiful, the engineering is amazing.
One of the coolest builds I have seen by far !!!!! Keep up the good work
Wow....what a machine!!!fair play mate
She's beautiful. Congratulations to the owner for creating such a precious car.
I like this guy he has the right ideas
i'm on my way restoring an e28 520i. no resto-mod, just restoring to its original state. hope it'll get done this year
That thing sounds beastly!! Blow off valves
If it wasn't for the snail sticking out from the hood and the screamer pipe out the side this would be the perfect sleeper. Fair play to the chap for tryng to keep the stock look exspesially the wheels.
Great story!
Forget the sleep and school because Car Throttle uploaded a video.
I bet that thing is a hell of a lot of fun to drive
Ive been subscribed since 35k subs. In a couple of months, we got to 800k subs. I say well done
im a huge e39 fanatic but this video has made my eyes open to a whole new world of 5 series bmws
I'd prefer the e34 personally(if I were to get a 5 series)
what i can say more than this guy is a true car guy
got to give respect to this man.....very nice project🙋
