Another reason we love you Dave , is because you still keep alive the memory and musical genius of that living legend that was Rory Gallagher..what a great Rock star to emulate in every way. Great show..thanks brother..
I picked up the guitar again 3 years ago at the tender age of 44, this followed a brief flirtation in my early 20s. Since then I have grown a huge love of the blues, And Rory is one of my favourite artists currently. I am self taught and have found your videos so inspiring and informative. This series I’m currently working my way through. Thank you for everything you put out Dave. You are having a massive influence on so many people.
Oh man! Thank you so much! Rory is the reason I came back to music and the guitar. I've been waiting for a video like yours for years and years. It's sad thad Rory's musical legacy is so underappreciated today. You're an amazing player and a wonderful teacher! Thanx again!
Make the pilgrimage to Roryfest bank holiday June in his birthplace Ballyshanmon every year. Its a lovely small town in Donegal , the majority of gigs are free open air Rory tribute acts all day long until near midnight when there are paid gigs in the main Hotel mainly. Dave is right not to be bogged down in note for note, Rory loved to improvise. He said in interview although the Strat was his Desert Island 🎸 he preferred the tele lead sound! Probably tele used a lot in studio more than many realise.
Great Dave quite magical. Rory's brother Donal would know his instruments and amps used on every track. He knew the serial no's of the amps and guitars, his brothers hidden angel.
Most guitar lessons on line I get really board, very quickly, this made me feel I was in the room with you playing along and just trying out each bit as we went, very enjoyable and some great little fills which I hadn't realised were in the song, thanks.
Same here, Dave's lessons are not clinical and linear which works very well for my learning style. I not pay attention for 5 minutes with Dave talking in the background and then look back at the video and learn something right away, I don't have to sit through the whole thing to get context, it's great for my ADHD brain.
Thank you Dave for introducing me to this amazing musician! After listening to this video for 20 seconds I immediately went to spotify to listen to him.. And wow. He is awesome! Definitely listening to his stuff.
im a big rory fan since i heard him from my older brother. he made me start playing guitar when in was 14. i saw him live 1982 in Offenburg Germany, it was my first live concert and i was 16. i saw him several times live in germany later on. still love him and play his songs from time to time. great series oh vidoes i watched them all. thanks for it.
Dave your awesome thank you so much for this upload love Rory first show in Montreal, shook his hand after the concert, highlight of my life.Cheers have a great weekend m friend!!
MAN Dave you're doing a great job. I can tell Rory played studio in a perfect set up but his live playing is ALL ON FEEL as he felt at that moment .He was definitely a feeling player and I loved his sound . Great job and playing THANKS.
Thanks so much. Your teaching style is great. I like the way you combined this lesson with the previous one in terms of putting the scales to practice. Looking forward to more Rory tunes :)
Honestly, thank you, Dave. I've been getting hugely into Rory and specifically this song. He was an amazing guitar player, and he had so many little details in his playing that it is sort of overwhelming trying to figure them out, and this really helps. BTW, I was so excited when you opened the first episode with this and A Million Miles Away, a couple of his best songs!
I used to enjoy singing and playing this at Jam Sessions, with a Guitarist, Tim Scopes, doing Lead, a very good Player, he really nailed this, we should have record it, drummer loved doing it.
I've been trying to play this for years and couldn't work out why it never sounded quite like Rory. NOW I KNOW WHY!! Rory was and is such an underrated musician in my opinion - thanks so much for the upload. I can't wait to try it out!
Excellent video. Your playing and instruction is brilliant but the knowledge you have of how Rory plays the song in both in the studio and live brought it to the next level. Thanks!
It took me a minute to realize what video I recognized you from when I was watching some videos with you on Andertons, and this one was it! Congrats on all your success. I'm so glad to see you going places and getting recognition.
Thank you so much for these! You are such a legend. Selfishly I would love you to do A Million Miles Away, the studio version - that intro is just so killer and no video exists showing it!
Dave, spent the last few weeks re-buying all Rory on vinyl and playing along. All thanks to you pal! Great videos especially the unlocking the neck video. Well done mate, keep up the hard work!
Yes man !! Best cover I've seen of this! Remember hearing about Rory whilst living in Manchester. Had to check him out as soon as I got back to Oz. Great cover and really enjoy your videos!
Dear Dave these videos are an hour long. Noramlly i get bored after 5 mins but so far i have been glued to them spent a week so far on lesson 2. Has made a big difference already to my playing. Thanks. I hope you are earning money from these.
You said you hope it's helpful??? It's fucking amazing!!! Thank you for this. I've caught a couple of references to Rory in some rock history videos I've been watching lately but haven't done the dive on his music yet which means your video here is my introduction to his music and I'm trying to play along with your instruction but haven't even heard the actual song at this point. Hope I end up liking the sound of his vocals because I really love the guitar parts and the song itself, well at least the way you presented it. Saved this video to my library as I will be watching it a bunch more times as well as checking out your other stuff. I really want to try to work on that descending pentatonic across the neck, it's really wonderful!
Half way through the video and i never had more fun learning a song, plus if you add that its rorys and that dave is teaching it, what more can one ask for?
There is a kickass live version of this song as performed by the Dave Simpson Trio at a 2012 festival show , Dave is in command and his bandmates are in fine form as well ,look for it on youtube, you will not be disappointed
Thanks Dave you nail it every time and I love your laid back real time teachings. Dose anyone know what works as a treble boost as I have many peddles but no treble booster, badmonkey afulltone,a crazy cacti ect
If you appreciate rory then you are ok by me.as you are collecting info...the French TV versión of bullfrog blues was played on a Gretsch “corvette” “cherry red” not an expensive guitar but good for rorys gutsy blues sound.
I’ve been trying to learn the rhythm part of this song for a long time and it is driving me nuts. I was trying to learn it out of the “The Essential Rory Gallagher” guitar tab book - I am aware these books aren’t alway accurate. Watching your video and others it seems like there is something missing? How can I email you for clarity? You are a far better player then I am for sure.
Loved Rory's music since around 1970...played guitar for around 50 years....using a Strat and Marshall Code 50....effects pedals.... you name it I've tried it but cannot get his tone or sound. It drives me crazy...any tips?
Alright Dave, I’m after a few pointers, I’ve played Hendrix and Blues guitar for years and only recently discovered Rory properly. I find he’s a whole style of his own, I play along to his backing tracks but find it has less to hide behind if you get me, find myself getting lost or a bit stuck. Is there anything you can advise other than just keep slugging away? Great videos mate really enjoy your channel nice one for taking the time, the lesson has helped get me to a point but I still feel there’s something missing I’m struggling to fully connect and slot in on improvising as I can on say a blues or Hendrix track?
8:28 Main chord progression (Dmin -> Fmaj -> Cmaj -> Dmin)

Great show..thanks brother..
1m52s of the most soul-hitting guitar playing I’ve ever heard 🤯🙌🙌🙌
Dave, you're an oasis in the desert! Wonderful stuff. Almost 50 years on from my first contact with Rory.
I picked up the guitar again 3 years ago at the tender age of 44, this followed a brief flirtation in my early 20s. The first time i heard Rory was in 1974. He was the man who startend me playing the guitar. Stil Rory is my nummer one.
I was a million miles away then I saw this 🎸🎶🙏🏻✌🏻🤟🏼😂😂😂
