Kurt, it’s chunk to bite off, but you won’t ever regret buying new parts. I really do think Troy and Tater Tot need to come up with the money! You’ve been carrying them too long!😂😂
More than a half century as a big rig mechanic. Never replaced a whole axle housing. They can be straightened, welded and machined, and even the spindle replaced for a hell of a lot less money. The way he was talking and seeing the mechanic standing there doesn't inspire confidence in me. I'm sorry but I've rebuilt rear ends where the differential carrier exploded inside it. The through shaft runs through a separate bearing housing that requires shims to set axial play. I've seen trucks break that shaft to pieces. Pull the power divider and diff. Check the gears for damage and put it back together. Wow. Wish I lived near you.
So first class will more or less have a new arse it's expensive but she will be back love the home videos troy you could sell all that hair for for 20 grand 😂
Oh my goodness the construction of I80 by Council Bluffs has the speed limit at 55. Most of the trucks still go 70-80mph through there. Occasionally one of those big rigs will clip a cement wall and there’s been a few wrecks.
Payment or repairs, it usually comes out about the same, the difference is the time spent not working while repairing. The struggle of trucking never ends.
I’ve always heard and lived by that too. But, now, with the cost of repairs, I just buy new and trade when the warranty runs out. Is that right? Who knows? I guess it’s whatever someone, as an o/o, can stomach.
HEY KURT MAN IM PRAYING FOR YA MAN A BIG TRUCK IS BIG $$$$ ! BEAUTIFUL VIDEO THO HARLY IS SO ADORABLE ! BE BLESSED BE SAFE !! MUCH RESPECT ! 🚂🇺🇸🚂🇺🇸🚂🇺🇸👍✊👊🙏🙏🙏
Sorry about your poor truck. Hope you get back on the road soon . In 1963 we bought our first truck for $ 13000. It was a 1961 Pete with a 220 Cummngs. It had a brownie 5 and 3 and eton 9-13. It was a cabover truck and trailer. 24 and 24. Was a great runner on the flat but you could walk faster than the truck going over the Grapevine. Did the job tho. . 4 miles per gal. 16:44
First Class is a great truck. Investing in it with your high expenses is lot cheaper than replacement and having to do ELogs with something decent. I just love your VLogs❤ and the gentle way you shift your beloved First Class.
First class needs some love. First Class has been taking care of you now you take care of First Class. Ouch on the money aspect but you have a good shop working on your truck, that has a cost. I get Ouch 💰💰just stay the course. You got this.
Hi there Kurt. Just discovered your videos and love them. You do a great job putting them together. I am already a subscriber. I have been retired from hauling gasoline and diesel here in San Antonio, Tx. Worked for 4 different companies for a little over 42yrs. Have to replace the entire engine on my 2007 Ford Explorer which will cost right under $10,000 with parts and labor. Hurts but is better than buying a new vehicle. You will rebound and get back on top where you were. Just keep your head up and keep going. You seem to be a very good OO and I love the KW you have. Will be watching to see how it goes. See ya!
Forgot to mention the Explorer has the V8 4.6 3V engine. Those seem to be expensive to buy. Getting a remanufactured one from Jasper engines in Jasper, Indiana. Can Opie help?
Rose has a nice collar. lol I also love the clock your parents have above that doorway. I have always had a clock above my door with exception of here. no place for one lol
Praying your back out there soon brother.. hope opies doing better.. i ran 61 north of platte KS last night... stopped in at the Caseys round 2am it was kinda shady people in there and i thought hwy 50 was a twin hwy , ooops. Sure wished i could of talked to you !!
I'm following your channel here in Brazil and I really like it. I'm hoping that everything goes well and soon your truck is rolling along the beautiful American roads. 🤝🏻🇧🇷
I love you brother. You and the family are going to make through this I believe in you. Man I have not seen a be live in for ever. Give my love to the family.
I think I would have but a rear clip for 9k & then jst had 3ft added wb with big 4 bag system. I seen rear clips from 2019/2020 with 3.55,3.42,3.36, 3.25,3.08 an labor for around 4-5k for total of 14k with 6k savings
I have a 03 pete with 1.4k. Put remans in both rears including all new brakes, wheel bearings, rebuild the whole driveline and new yokes. 5 years ago that was 15.000 dollars. Two years ago rebuild the 18 speed trans new 2250 clutch, flywheel, rearmain seal, trans cooler and all new linkages on the clutch. 22.000 dollars. Big trucks, big bucks. I am the third owner and you don't know how the others kept up their maintenance. It's a crap shoot that why I dont gamble. Good luck.
thats trucking year&half ago on a 3406 E 2ws we lost oil seal in the trubo and it ran away 52 grand later its back up running ya i now its old 1998 but it will still out last a new throw away trucks HAPPY TRAILS
Hey Kurt I remember when you could buy a new car for $ 20,000. 25 years ago. lol I went automotive school in the 90,s it cost 10,000 now its about 30,000 learnings the same thing. First class will be all new from behind. Things will get better warmer weather coming and I would buy more Merch, but I think I own more (Trucking with Schmidt) shirt then you do. lol Thanks for sharing.
I feel your pain Kurt, I just put 21k into replacing the entire emissions system. It HURT. (It’s nearly impossible to delete in my state seeing as they plug into everything now) Still recovering slowly but it’s the way it seems to go. It hurts slightly less when your back on the road and rolling knowing your recouping some of that.
Good job that truck driver isn’t in the U.K. trucks limited to 56mph, if your caught speeding like that, say tata to your license. Another great video Kurt, hope you get the truck up and running quickly. Kind regards from Scotland 🏴 Johnny
Sorry for your troubles, you can't go back and do over. Just keep stepping forward. The old girl has over 2 million miles on her. It has done well to get this far. Good luck
Kurt pay the 20k and say thankyou devide that by how long you have the truck and the miles you have on it. no emisions to put up with. The company I retired from after 46 years of service was looking at a new W900 the price was over $250k most of there trucks are pre emision the few they have with emisions are in the shop the most !!!
Kurt, those guys seem like pros and will do a good job. The rear end will be like new and just remember how costly a new rig would be. Your making a good move IMHO.
Totally get the situation but at the end of the day First Class is already bought and paid for - $20k to give you another million miles is way less than leasing a new truck - over the long term owning and maintaining a vehicle is always cheaper than lease/buy
It's the same storey, pay for a new truck or keep the old one going. All the new and automatics in UK seem to be forever having "gliches", nothing serious but downtime costs regardless and the customer is pi...d off.
It seems like a domino effect, where one thing happens ( cars, trucks) and it all happens at once. Here are the positives, and just my thoughts 💭, you get to see your family every day. Be with your pups, spend quality time with your kids, mom and dad, sister, ect. I just think that sometimes a different view can change most situations.. 😊 hello to the family 👋🦮🐕🦺🐕🦺
It is unfortunate that this is going to cost you as much as it is. But, this is where proper pretrip comes to play. Personally I do a Level I DOT inspection on my truck three times a week, Level III all other days. Any fluid leak, no matter how minor is addressed immediately. $20-$30k to fix it hurts, but, at the same time, you got lucky. That failure could have destroyed First Class, or worse. As for the brakes, you rolled sevens in the fact that DOT didn’t find that. That whole rear end, with oil soaked brakes, would have cost you some very hefty fines to say the least.
Yeah sir you may have the perfect life. Incredible immediate family. Moms and Dad are out of Ozzie and Harriet. Just to be stuck with that gigantic orb. Dude the Extra medium hat taint hiding anything.😂😂
No it's what the Biden regime has done to our one normal society and security that we no longer enjoy on the illegal criminal invasion on our open southern border
You'll have a new truck. Good for another 2 million miles. I'm hoping your accountant can write off a good chunk of that bill, but I'm sure our lovely government will figure out a way to prevent that. I'm still waiting on my tax return from two months ago. Stay safe, and God bless.
Sorry to hear about your possible large axle bill, but look on the bright side, when it’s done you probably have an axle setup that can do another 1 million miles with regular maintenance so it is an investment, and don’t worry so much about the content of the videos it’s a trucking family so it’s all relative 👍
Wow big bucks to fix those trucks--I went thru similar situations 30 years ago while in the refuse hauling business--anyways just suck it up, maybe get an extra run per week if you can do it Good Luck
Opie looks like he is moving better, but Jax had the limp today. Rose was moving great. Big trucks/big bucks when something goes wrong. We deal with that st our local vol fire dept. Like First Class, out engines, tanker and mini pumper aren't new. The mini pumper was when she came there. Like my father in law used to say, "If it has tires, a roof or boobs, it's gonna cost you. I think my Explorer is having sympathy pains with your vehicles. I have a rear signal/brake light acting up and a leaking hose. Hose is ordered. Adding water before going to work and before coming home. Fun times. You might need to put Troy playing the lottery. He could win. Stay safe.
Your lucky you got the garage built last year. I have a feeling you would've dipped into that account. I enjoy your Dad. , he's such a a liar about his diet😅.
Its disappointing, but i was able to catch my head self-destruction from oil analysis. Got it before it was noticeable. I do oil analysis from horizion. Their doing air, land, and sea analysis. With tracking hostory to see changing trends. Engine oil, transmission and axels. Saved me before catastrophic failures. Ps im looking for a pre emmision truck so i can do more repairs myself...my current emmission era truck is harsh , the manufacturer isnt releasing the data for spares or diagnostics. Your saving in the long run. But more so if you can find quality minded shop staff.
As with everything else, looks like REPAIRS costing way more than expected. Trucker Josh planning on having to REPAINT the FRAME due to Canadian ROAD SALT has pretty much affected the PAINT behind the cab of Ole' Blue his W900L 😳🤠
Kurt, it’s chunk to bite off, but you won’t ever regret buying new parts. I really do think Troy and Tater Tot need to come up with the money! You’ve been carrying them too long!😂😂

everyone send 1 dollars to the Schmidt man
$20 grand thats about 6% of a new truck its getting stupid expensive for everything at them stealer ships.
So first class will more or less have a new arse it's expensive but she will be back love the home videos troy you could sell all that hair for for 20 grand 😂
I'd buy it from him to have that hair again lol

Kurt, as the philosopher once said, “it’s always something.” I pray that you get all this figured out and are able to get back to trucking soon.
The joy's of owning your own truck!! It's great when things are going good, but then there's the bad times!!
As Super Trucker Dan said “it cost big bucks to play with big trucks”
Oh my goodness the construction of I80 by Council Bluffs has the speed limit at 55. Most of the trucks still go 70-80mph through there. Occasionally one of those big rigs will clip a cement wall and there’s been a few wrecks.

I spent 54k in repairs last year. I’ll trade you
Happy Easter Schmidt Family.
Kurt, sorry to hear about the additional expenses. I was impressed how clean the Cat shop was inside.
That was one big man in the Cat shop.

At this point I suggest pulling the magnetic plug on the rear differential. I have many years of experience saying this.
Winter doesn’t give up. While the repair bill is high but it will be done right sounds like. It still hurts
New parts are nice and needed at times but sure does hurt a guys feelers when its time to pay the bill.
Yes it definitely does
And folks think we are getting rich out here running these trucks.
HD stands for high dollar.
See if you can get some straw put down on your new grass. Keeps the seed there, holds moisture as well.

soon you're going to get a call from the garage saying: "excuse me sir, it seems your battery needs a new truck."

Oh my. Prices have gone crazy since I was trucking. I could have almost bought a new truck for that. Hang in Kurt and how’s Opie? Havagudun.
Wow once they got you over a barrel .
Repair is 100% deductible. All part of business.
Still real money.

hey kurt im from nh.we didnt get hardly any snow all winter.now that its spring it snowed over 2 ft sat. into sun.crazy huh?
well we know you will be pulling a lot of loads to cover that bill. lol It's all good content :)
I feeling the spending blues too, I just dropped $2k on a Beretta 1301 tactical. You treat first class well, she’ll treat you well for years to come
🤔Opie gonna have to do a lot of trucking to pay for that 🤣
Hi Kurt it was nice to see first class even for just a little bit. She'll be up and running soon. What's wrong with your Dually? Please explain.
