I had a faith parlour for a while and I have to say it is a really good little package that let me use my classical technique thats rare that I feel at home with metal strings
both, the band is something that we both love and enjoy but also take very seriously. however we all have other side projects and work too, for example Rob has his guitar company and i am an engineer /producer etc...
breathing is part on the general noise floor, if the guitar is loud then the mic gain can be low and you wont pic it up, if the guitar is quite you run some risk in that the mic gain will be high. one thing you can do in that situation is choose microphones that have very directional polar patters so you get less bleed from other noises in the room such as breathing. however on some recordings its quite nice to here things like that, they sound honest and organic. :-)
When you were talking about how you can screw up playing fretless bass that reminded me of Devin Townsend's bass track for Ki - he seems to have used fretless bass for that song, but not known how to play it, so his bassline is in quarter tones. At least, that's what I've determined from trying to play it myself, and always being sharp or flat.
Would love to hear the finished product already! I think the acoustic Ep would better tailor the hot and sandy weather of the Saudi desert I currently inhabit. Rock on, Dorje \m/
Really enjoy the blow by blow recording videos. One question for you gentlemen good sirs of musical badassness.. What prompted the decision to use the same acoustic on the tracks rather than 2 different ones? I think the Faith sounds incredible and perfect.. just curious why you chose not to go for two diverse tones (though there IS diversity in the tones which is the result of two different players). Thanks very much. Best of luck.
Ahahahah xD i was looking into the apple logo and... BAM! Great to receive a response from you man! Dorje is fucking amazing, and your such a beast on the bass! Oh by the way, keep those videos about home recording coming. They are really useful. Cheers from Portugal mate!
Yeah man, its correct name would be Near Coincident, it keeps in phase just as well, folds to mono almost as well but achieves a slightly wider stereo image \m/
•Should have done the DimeSqueal on the bass with the sliding harmonic bit. •Got your money's worth out of that large diaphragm condenser, didn't ya? •Good call copping from Benny Greb! Dude is off the charts groovy.
Your microphone placement interests me, i thought stereo pairs were placed as a coincident pair, tips facing, but this is a new approach for me. Dave really knows his stuff though and the sound is class!....so i'm learning something :-)
No you're right. After I just re-thought about it I'm wrong. drop Db is a half step down from standard. Drop C# is a half step down from drop D. Sorry, totally confused myself.
Just wondering, for those of you that have purchased the first EP from Indiegogo, how do you actually get the perk. I just got an email that said to keep the message as confirmation, but no actually way to claim the digital download.
love the style of you guys, it's like a djenty blues type vibe with some nice hard rock/ jazzy metal.. sorry for the horrible explanation
Christian Baker But strangely accurate
Christian Baker A Mix Between Blues, Extreme and Alter Bridge
+Christian Baker (SieEhmBe) i've always said it was bluesy prog metal
"Fretless... which means it has no frets"
Priceless Dave.
Its clear who the brains of this Bunch is ,..Dave you are the man!!!
This fretless bass sound is just awsome !
I love that Bea's description of the solo was "Something will happen".... What a babe.
NY Islanders hockey? Way to go.
Been an Islander fan since their hayday.
"sup dave..."
"yo."
beast.
Dave is the man. Period.
The bass is some of the tastiest stuff I've heard in a long time...and this is going to be BADASS.
Wow, that main riff lends far better to acoustic guitar than I expected. :D
I had a faith parlour for a while and I have to say it is a really good little package that let me use my classical technique thats rare that I feel at home with metal strings
Thanks man, yeah its good fun to play.
Awesome song, awesome playing, and Chappers is wearing a Halo shirt!
How did I miss this till now. Brilliant fun interesting too!
YYYYYEEEEEYYYYAAAAAH!!!!!!!!!
DORJE UNPLUGGED!!!
have watched this video b4 and just spotted Rebea wearing and Islanders shirt. awesome
I love watching these old Dorje recording videos. That camera had surprisingly decent audio, coincidentally!

Thank you for the reply Dave! That was really helpful.
i love the 5 string fretless, great innovation dave it also sounds amazing
Dorje is our main artistic focal point \m/
I'm really intrigued to see how this turns out!
Sweet dudes!
great acoustic sound!
Bea, There are some electric guitars with piezo pickups in the bridge saddles and most of them have acoustic preamps. ACOUSTIC WITH A FLOYD ROSE!
Thanks man, that's awesome :-)
The fretless bass part is literally just so tasty...so damn cooool.
fun to see you challenge yourselves!
I think besides the solo (obviously), the fretless bass part makes this song so cool. Props, Dave! Incredible stuff you guys are doing!
classic Chappers and his video game t-shirts, I have seen him in a Skyrim one, now a halo or UNSC one. two of my favorite games!!!!
Dave is a beast on the bass! Holy shit!
Nice!
Thanks heaps Chappers!
16:23 truly made my day. Amazing.
That drummer has major chops. But it's good to have one that's not afraid to hold back
Thats a loong time! Nice playing btw:)
Can't wait for your final acoustic version of aeromancy. Hope you guys bring it out soon!!! :-)
4:46 Listerine ftw! xD
Amazing video guys!
We love you ;-)

Am I the only one who loves Dave's voice?
Interesting insight into acoustic transcription. Cool \m/
And we love you :P
Dave, I really dig these recording videos. I have no experience with recording, but I find the fascinating. Keep posting these.
I really wanted to hear a bit of everything put together :( Guess I'll have to wait, But still is beastttttttttttttttt :D

oh man. That is exactly how not to play a tabla... I took lessons for a month or two and it is so friggin tricky. It's all in the wrists and fingers!
Yeah man, its correct name would be Near Coincident, it keeps in phase just as well, folds to mono almost as well but achieves a slightly wider stereo image \m/
Yep \m/
Dave's nice guitar playing at the start.....
•Should have done the DimeSqueal on the bass with the sliding harmonic bit.
•Got your money's worth out of that large diaphragm condenser, didn't ya?
•Good call copping from Benny Greb! Dude is off the charts groovy.
Yeah i didn't have one to hand but the fretless turned out really well! :-)
:-D your too kind!
It really is a expressive little instrument, have a trawl on the web if you like the sounds. There's some mad tekkers out there!
Your microphone placement interests me, i thought stereo pairs were placed as a coincident pair, tips facing, but this is a new approach for me. Dave really knows his stuff though and the sound is class!....so i'm learning something :-)
Those headphones are being enveloped by Bea's fro! :3
You guys are incredible. But You already know that, don't You? :D
1:53
Dave's tobaco bag is in Portuguese. Hell yeah
It's all muscle memory, I play upright in a jazz group and I never have trouble finding my notes now that I've gotten used to it.
We tune to drop Db \m/
SWEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Rabea is ridiculously hench on acoustic :)
No you're right. After I just re-thought about it I'm wrong. drop Db is a half step down from standard. Drop C# is a half step down from drop D. Sorry, totally confused myself.
The world could use more acoustic guitar solos.
16:26 Ben's gone all "paranormal activity"!
Noup, just being realistic. As an amateur audio engineer, to get some free tips and lessons is a blessing.! :)
i like hockey man, got a few shirts, but my housemate pau, the other afro dude, is the hardcore fan.
a long time playing one with plenty of trial and error, haha.
lol great ending
I have a black voice...
Mike Dawes said I sound like Doug Pinnock from Kings X, I take it as a compliment.
Are you guys going to put this on an ep to fund the possible Californian tour after the next tour?
Well Ben. Not the traditional way to play a Tabla. But, whatever gets you going man. Cheers.
I was thinking that yeah.
Well it was Chappers calling for inspiration, pretty hard for Rob to channel Rob eh?
thats the plan =))
That riff at 4:30 sound a lot like Porcupine Tree - Shallow :-)
@SeventhsalutexMTG yeah Db is the same as C#
Dave, may I ask you what headphones do you have for monitoring/mixing? Thx
Hey Dave :) I'm a big fan of Dorje and I love your music !
Hum, what mic did you use on vocals at 13:08 please ? Thanks
