Here's a stick control exercise. It's all about Single and Double Strokes. Enjoy! I invite you to my website and Sign up for More Lessons: www.emmanuellecaplette.com
+Emmanuelle Caplette You're amazing! I've been following you since Myspace days. After 40 years of playing, I recently began suffering severe pain in my thumb. Clearly I'd developed some bad habits and technique that were catching up with me. A couple mos. ago, I bought two of your beginner videos. I can honestly say you saved my drumming. My technique has improved immensely. I play faster and, more importantly, way more relaxed and pain free. THANK YOU! THANK YOU!
I’m a new drummer, and this is one one of the best lessons I’ve seen! Thank you!!!
Emmanuelle, thank you so much for what you do. I've never had a lesson and learned by air-drumming and on my lap and feet. I finally have a drum set and time to practice, so your channel is my go-to source for amazing lessons! Please don't stop!
We played this as a warm up in marching band. I still use it all the time.
I've watched this before and I'm still amazed at your technique. So very impressive
Emmanuelle, your smoothness, looseness and control amazes me, keep up the hard work!
Wow my new favorite drum, teacher. I love how you play everything slow at first. So many drum guys out there that yeah at a hundred miles an hour. I don't know what they are thinking? Slow and relaxed is always the way to start. You have really nice relaxed timing. You won me over. Thanks a bunch for your good help............... Lance k. H
I've always started out slowly with my understudies. It only makes sense to start out slowly and focus on timing and stick control before attempting to play at 180 bpm from the get go...I have never really seen other drum instructors start out at blistering speed. I was in marching band, oh...almost 20 years ago and was fortunate to have a good instructor when learning rudiments and reading sheet music...
Sad to hear that you have had bad experiences with other instructors.
Glad you found an awesome instructor in Emmanuelle!
Thank you for the free lesson. I can't afford a drum teacher so youtube videos like this are a lifesaver! Something I can understand and will help my playing without me needing to ask questions! :-)
rebukey i always think youtubes such an amazing resource for learning. I like to think id of been amazing had youtube existed when i started playing, cheers
If i can help. There 4 things to practice when you practice drum. 1- technique (this video and hannah ford stick control) 2- fills (lot of fills on drumeo and youtube) 3- indepence (drumeo or theold lady from jazz on youtube. 4- play drum with drumless or with your preferband.
I love this lady and truly respect her very strong discipline. She snaps the sticks together at the end of each exercise which leads me to believe she has had some time in drumline(s). J'aime ton style de jeu et ton désir d'enseigner aux autres. Que tu es aussi très belle fait de tes leçons un vrai bonheur à regarder.
I like lessons on the pad. As I don't own a drum set but own two pads, small and large, sticks, mallets, as a supplement to my Djembes, I appreciate these basic lessons. Thanks.
Not a player, just enjoy the happy way Emmanuelle plays drums.
Congratulations Emmanuelle , I catch the lesson very clear , thanks so much , for your way to teach , God Bless you ... greetings from Ecuador
That last little move was cool, I had to rewind and play it about 10 times.
And yeah, you are quite awesome.
pay attention to how little her arms are moving - amazing technique
+Lukas T One of the surefire signs of a drumline player.
+bbkingzor I was in a drumlin when I was young :-)
+Lukas T yeah she works in coordination with the rebound. cools stuff
***** My suspicions have been confirmed! Call me Sherlock and Bob's your uncle!
+Emmanuelle Caplette And you still have the habit of returning your sticks to rest position when you're done. :-D
I've searched the world for several years now looking for a more talented, beautiful and charismatic drummer. It's impossible compared to Emmanuelle...
First: I watched this.
Then: Went hiding behind my kit and cried...
No! You go on exercising!
I seem to be on a kick of watching things on youtube that make me hate myself. I don't even understand how controlled this is. Like no arm movement and such high stick heights...but still so freaking perfect. My head blew up when she started at 120.
It’s obvious she has been trained professionally or at least was in an elite group of drummers like those drum line movies. Just look at how she puts the sticks together! Lovely lesson! You’re an amazing teacher!
It it so refreshing to find good videos that are 99% instructional and only a two second mention of going to the website! SUBSCRIBE. :-)
Love the finger bounce control. I have much to learn and apply from this video! Many thanks.
Powerful technique.Love the white sticks.Great lesson.Again, your technique is superb.Wow.!! Thanks.
Cheers Emmanuelle....great set of exercises. Thanks for taking the time to upload the video, much appreciated !
I've been drumming for 20 years now and I'm amazed about your singles at 120 bpm, compliments! But it's also a matter of the real right pair of sticks and the ground. And importantly: Don't drink and drum! 😂
Awesome! I am a newbie wannabe drummer and search you tube for help and tips. Thank you so much for posting this. It will take me quite a while to play so perfectly. I just keep practicing. You are really really good!
I could watch and listen to you all day long 😍
Thank you Emmanuelle. Your teaching is easy and simple to follow!
Lol, loved the ending: "Waaa-do!" Merci pour la leçon. J'étais curieux de voir jusqu'à combien de BPM tu pousserais l'exercice, mais j'imagine que tu t'es arrêtée bien avant le maximum (histoire de ne pas trop nous écoeurer ! XD)
Jesus, such incredibly smooth technique. Awesome.
J'adore ! En plus je n'ai jamais aussi bien compris l'anglais !! :) Merci Emmanuelle !!
Well played. An excellent drummer, can only wonder where she learnt to play like that... Thank you so much. Well Done. Brian NZ
You are my favorite teacher and drummer
4 measures in 2/4
16th singles and 32nd doubles
16th singles and 32nd singles
16th singles for two beats
32nd doubles and 32nd singles
Thank you! Great to see you making videos again. AND that stick control exercise is exactly what I need to be doing.
How can anyone watch this excellent, FREE lesson and hit thumbs down? 😤👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Je comprends enfin quelqu'un s'exprimant en anglais!...Good lesson!
her technique is so relaxing and effortless. thats so cool!
Bravos Emmanuelle, à plusieurs reprises je suis allé au drumfest de Montreal et c'est la que je vous es vue performer la première fois j'aime votre style funky en particulier et bravos pour votre carrière!😉
Love it. Try this... in second bar play the first 2 beats (16ths) as doubles.
And in third bar play first 2 beats singles second 2 beats as doubles.
Great exercise! For more difficulty you can start with the left hand instead of right hand. It's even better !
Emmanuelle, your technique is amazing.
Thanks for that lesson!
Thomas Nickl MLB.
stai zitto zerbino ridicolo
je ny connais rien en batterie, juste pour le sourire et le son, un grand plaisir
Excellent technique. Very precise and she's a great teacher as well.
Walla:
I've been a fan since your "Drive In Drive Out" solo (love what you're doing at 1:22-1:23 in that!) and I'm glad to see a tutorial from you. This is a great video, putting the chart in the corner is great!
+John Bodoni Wow!!!! Thanks to support me! :-) I appreciate it! Drive In Drive Out!!! Been Awhile!!! Haha :-)
Awesome tutorial. The stick control is superb. Excellent excercise indeed!☺
I like your play so much!!! You are a inspiration!!! I am trying to play this exercise of yours.
Thank you!
Complètement dingue. Quelle vitesse et légèreté en même temps!
Freaking fast, amazing tecnique, cool explanation... I am working on it! Thanks a lot for sharing the passion😄
très impressionnant. amazing stick control and speed.
This girl is good..... clearly she never skipped any of the basics and it shows...
That was amazing. Thank you for sharing. Do you have a video on your grip technique?
Very cool exercise and your technique is incredible. I've been sharing this with my students. Cheers!
pretty good!
Your finger control is amazing!
Thank you!
"now let me play the all exercise slowly, then I speed up"
*starts super fast
that's exactly what I thought! The starting tempo is an achievement in itself!
*then gets even super faster. Twice.
Oh my gosh come on that is not that fast, for snare drum players.
hahaha. RUclipss slow down feature helps.
80 BPM is not really that fast. A lot of students start at 70 or 90 so 80 is very reasonable especially since these are very basic strokes. Just slow it down until you can master it. Being able to play slow is just as important as being able to play fast. Excellent exercise. She didn't stress stroke technique too much, but I would focus on full strokes for this exercise.
You remind me of a drum corps drummer how you put your sticks together at the end. Especially those big pieces of wood you're using!
Très intéressant! Beau travail Emmanuelle
Those are Art Blakey tree limb drum sticks Bet she plays Jazz too! Great instructional video. Awesome control and Technique
Thank you very much Emmanuelle, for the great exercise- it is fun to play & very useful.
This is so good! Thank you Emmanuelle. I need to practice these daily
Thank you for all of the free instructional videos! ❤️ your accent. 😉
GREAT lessons!! keep the videos coming Emmanuel! Your amazing!
awesome to see you back. I've been waiting and waiting. can't wait to see you shread again :) you're soooooo awesome. perfect technique and on time. That 200 BPM with the doubles is unreal!!!! :) my favorite women drummer I know no doubt.
THANK YOU FOR THE TECHNIQUE EMMANUELLE CAPLETTE....YOU'RE GREAT!
The bounciness of the drum pad and the weight and thickness of the stick helps. Different sticks have their own feel enabling you to control more.
I always would practice this growing up, glad to see I'm not the only one
Oh! how lovely you teach!
loved it!
I will stick to that!
Glad I stumbled upon her. She's excellent!
I'm in love with your videos! Great lesson!😍
Sweet Jesus that 120bpm bit at the end is so good. So fast and crisp.
For more than 1 year You made me so happy to following.BUT now i bought a drumset and a practic pad ,you make me a kind of depressed for be real --this is not so easy thats it,s look like not at all.....how can you be so fast ? holy grail much practing behind ,,
Damn your good Emmanuelle and your accent : ) but never give it up to many money spend ,so has to learn it..
Coud be fun to see you take a dish in those tempo
Excellent! Another nice challenge is to flip it around and lead with your left (or weaker) hand.
That was absolutely amazing!!!! Drum & Bugle Corps?? You are the smoothest drummer on the planet. I love watching you play. You can tell that you really enjoy your skill. Thank you for always sharing!!!
Finalement après trois écoute ça va j'ai bien compris ça va participer mon anglais, un gros merci!
I want to try this exercise. You make it look so easy. Thank you for sharing
😎🥁

Agreed Pedro Gã. Excellent lesson!
Thanks a lot, really good lessons. And i dont know where is the secret, but I'm belarus, usually i have a a problem with english audition, but not here - in this lessons i understand absolutely everything.
Those are great sticks for practicing. Agner Corpsmaster RH. 95 grams each! (3.35 oz.)
Excellent ! I just bought your ebook , I'm a new bie on drums ;)
You're fantastic, Emmanuelle!
Always with a big smile. You are great
Great technique, very clean. Inspiring.
pedagogy, talent...and charm !
Hi Emmanuelle. I really liked your video, I'll put it into practice. I would like to know what drumstick you use in this video. I liked them too. Thank you
She has been practicing in front of the mirror. Look at her arms. You only get that perfectly even look by watching yourself in the mirror. Impressive technique. At the end she went a little Pat Petrillo. That is code for highly impressive rudiments.
Beau travail Emmanuelle.
Easy to understand,nice teacher
your stick control is phenomenal...thx for vid.
Wow! Thank you for sharing this one! Gracias por compartir este video.
I was hoping to see you play the exercise at 130, 140, 150, or 160bpm. I bet you could! Seriously, I bet you could pull it off at 130bpm with no problem. But speed isn't the most important thing here right? Playing it cleanly with the proper technique is. Excellent video!!
That was so clean and insanely accurate at higher speed!!
Stick control for days! Good lesson, thanks 👍😉
I like practicing the 3rd measure ( the last sixteenth notes before the 4th measure of 32nds) as R R R R L L L L.
This is a great framework for practicing other rudiments too, for example 32nd note paradiddles and its variations.
Wow! I think Travis Barker uses this for his warm-ups.amazing technique Emmanuel 🤘👍
who's that?
a nobody compared to Nick Barker
Carlos Zuniga or or anyone who was ever in Drum Corps
how do these people not know who travis barker is?
of course they know. but since he is the most overrated living drummer, they are making a joke.
That was good and i liked her control. Her hands had no wasted motion, they barley moved. Clean
Emmanuelle. You are so good.
Now that's stick control. Outstanding.
you can tell you marched, as i did. bien fait and merci, mademoiselle caplette
she is a very good teacher
Very good video...excellent hand exercise...
