It sounds like you’re not holding the sanding disk flat when you come in contact with the wall. Easy way to avoid is to place the sander flat on the wall then turn it on. I’ve found that is the way especially on ceilings.

im using 220 grit brilliant 2 sanding disks, im getting swirl marks in my drywall flushes. is there something im doing wrong
