If you are using the anchor lock system on a kayak, is there a quick release if a fish gets tangled up or there is an emergency situation. I haven't heard anyone talk about that in any of the videos I've watched, thanks for your response.
I have one on each end of my canoe and these things are fantastic. Pyramid on one, spade on the other with 75 feet of high quality 3/8 anchor rope for both. It's great to be able to drop either just the front or the back depending on which way I want to face, or I can drop both and she'll hold broadside to the wind or current no problem. Quick notes - Remember to tie the end of your anchor lines to the boat (or put a big knot on the end) so you don't accidentally lose an anchor while dropping it in deeper water than expected. And use good expensive rope with good abrasion resistance, doesn't matter if it sinks or floats because it should be tight when in use. And if you have a bigger boat make sure you plunk these anchor locks into good strongly mounted scotty flush mounts or deck mounts, the little gunnel clamps and rail mounts might not always be strong enough.
I had one come apart on me last year, but, it was 12 yrs old and had been used under lots of nasty conditions with 25lb anchors.I think they are well worth what they want for them.
I was just talking to Scotty about this the other day actually while visiting. The sun, saltwater and other elements would break down plastics over time for sure. My anchor locks have lasted me 16 years so far!
The Fishing Doctors Adventures hey... how did that suspension repair work out on your boat trailer. Did you end up leaving that extension it just run with it permanently?
I'm sorry if you commented on my video and I didn't get back to you there. Can always message me that way I'm usually quick to reply. Don't want to side track Rod's posts. As for that video we just left it as it was done in the video and it works really well. The boar is a bit higher but most ramps are deep enough to get it off without a problem. One of my buddies is a heavy duty mechanic up in Fort Mac and he took a look at it and said we did a good job and that everything looked fine the way we did it with the shackles.
Hi Charles, my anchor lock for the bow is mounted onto this mount: scotty.com/product/241l-locking-side-or-deck-mount/ It's bolted onto the plate at the edge of the bow of my G3 1442 so no sealant needed. You can see the boat at: ruclips.net/video/ohPhiF2JjOs/видео.html
It should. I use 20lb anchors on mine. As long as the mount which the anchor lock is mounted into is screwed onto the boat solidly, it should be fine...
It can't accommodate a chain at the front of the anchor rode. I have one on my 14' Lund SSV. I have a small Danforth and a heavier river rake anchor for lakes and rivers respectively.
The 15lb would be totally fine, but I think you will find the 10lb not holding under certain situations (windy and the lake bottom is hard). It should be ok though if you don't plan to fish in rough conditions. With my 14ft jon boat, I have two 20lb pyramids. Occasionally, the one on the transom does not hold when it gets too windy and bouncy.
Okay, I'm curious/ concerned about the lock. You use a 20# anchor. My concern is the post, specifically breaking point. You stated any weight can be used. I run a 35# anchor and tie off on the front. I'm worried that this could break, especially for the fact that I live in a windy area as well as fish in rivers...big rivers in Idaho. Thoughts? Thx!
I've seen these being used with 25lb, 30lb anchors with no issues. I've dropped by anchor rope suddenly while the anchor was on the way down, and the amount of force on the lock hasn't done any damage. The plastic itself is very strong. The only possible issue that I might see happening is the four screws on the mount to the boat, but with proper screw lengths it should be ok. I'd contact Scotty directly to see what the maximum weight is recommended for these anchor locks.
@@FishingwithRodI think they recommend 3-5 lb anchors in still water. I'm needing an anchor system with a small mounting plate (not a lot of room at front of Lowe 14), and I typically use 20 lb anchors while river fishing. Thanks for the info...I'm probably getting one soon.
@@trendyfly For your 14 footer I would go with the 20lb pyramid anchor if you're fishing lakes where the wind can pick up. I've used 15lb before and couldn't hold on many windy days. 20lb, no issues just about all the time with the exception of one really gusty day, but under those conditions it wasn't even worth to be out there.

Essentials... I love it. The list of essentials is limitless for fishermen. It's like a black hole. I like that lock I'll have to get some!

Great videos. Thanks so much. Going to buy one today!
You're welcome!
Great tip. Great design. Thank you for sharing.
On the bow, Rod, did you through bolt the anchor mount or screw or rivet? Any marine sealant? Thanks man

You think this would be okay for a 25# anchor off a raft in some pretty tame rivers?
It should. I use 20lb anchors on mine. As long as the mount which the anchor lock is mounted into is screwed onto the boat solidly, it should be fine...

Yeah no chain. I don’t consider this an anchor lock for rivers for sure.
Thanks I didn't know how to unlock it!
Glad I could help!
Great vid, thanks
You're welcome. Thanks for watching!
I have a 12ft inflatable. Are 10.5lb pyramid on the bow and 15.5lb pyramid on transom enough? Thanks

@@FishingwithRod thanks a lot! 🙂🙂
