I just want to clarify at 6:13
I say capital E is full extension I meant “normal extension” full extension of dark pigment is Ed
Also 9:58 of the video I describe a dark chocolate agouti A_bbC_D_E_ but show a chinchilla color(NOT A CHINCHILLA) although these have similar looks they're not the same thing- Lilac Agouti A_bbC_ddE_ Blue Agouti A_B_C_ddE_
    Some Chinchilla Geno's are below:
Black based Chinchilla Genotype is A_B_C chd D_ E_ Blue based Chinchilla is A_B_C chd dd E_
Brown based Chinchilla A_bb C chd D_E_ Lilac Based Chinchilla A_bb C chd bb dd E_
There's also Chinchilla light C chl for Sabel, seal, smoke pearl, blue seal, chocolate sable, lilac pearl & lilac seal
I apologize for talking so fast I’m trying to jam in as much information as I can in a short video.
Be sure to refer to the book in the description click “…more” to see more information so you can understand it a little better. Also check out out our genetics playlist. Thanks for watching!

Im newer to rabbits and Iv mostly focused on genetics color and body structure understanding inbreeding depression and the entire genome really Iv excelled at color genetics and have just soaked in knowledge about it once i understood the basics, theres to many possibilities fore me to know it all there’s few things you mentioned that I dint know like the white belly thing but I’m thinking about making my own video explaining in basic as possible starting with color identification and terminology and finishing with locust and alleles and there actions I believe I can explain it to where people can understand clearly without giving false information or misleading any one I’m glad you have made these videos though I really wish more rabbitry people on RUclips would talk more in-depth about genetics and confirmation of body as well these are two crucial things that need to be understood by people wanting to breed and sell rabbits it’s important because we need to be able to sustain these breeds and ethical practices if we don’t understand how to breed correct confirmation and select properly fore it we can’t sustain the standard of the breed of course accounting vigor and overall health that the genome plays a crucial role in

I agree and I think you should absolutely make a video and I’ll be sure to watch it when your done. sadly, genetic videos are not the most popular most likely because they’re confusing and a bit mind numbing. There needs to be more quality videos and less low quality videos out there.
Color genetics in my experience is something that folks get into only after breeding for a while and not getting what they expect. If you’re involved in showing rabbits and trying to achieve the standard of perfection for the breed they’re raising you'll absolutely need this knowledge.
A majority of my viewers are farmers that run a Rabbitry for meat productions, which doesn’t require a standard of perfection but rather pertains to feeding, breeding and marketing skills so my genetic video so rank very high unfortunately.

Color genetics is pretty confusing. I’m always trying my best to explain it in an easy to follow manner, but it does require some deciphering. The book in the description really puts it into focus and helped me immensely. thanks for taking the time to comment!

@@TheRabbitryCenter keep in mind that I don’t know the first thing about color genetics so of course it was very hard for me to understand. The great thing is that you have a way of making even this old lady understand and I thank you so much for that!

Hey, Bobby, great video! I always look forward to watching them. I just wanted to comment that you said what changes an Agouti to a chinchilla is the B locus being brown and I believe that the chinchilla gene (cchd) is in the c locus and it erases the yellow in an agouti pattern. So I think you can have BB with a chin. Please correct me if I’m wrong, im still trying to figure all this stuff out :)

they have a very similar look
      chocolate agouti A_bbC_D_E_
      Lilac Agouti A_bbC_ddE_.
Blue Agouti A_B_C_ddE_ I’ll have to edit this video I appreciate the correction

@@TheRabbitryCenter I was kinda like what lol but I appreciate you making the video I think more RUclips channels should be trying to explain the genome as well as body confirmation polygenic and monogenic traits these things play crucial roles in standard of breeds and without standards we don’t have pure breeds or ethical practices to sustain them

Thanks a ton for this video. We just bred a red eyed white to a red and I am excited to see the variety in the nest box.
I noticed you mentioned getting a chinchilla with specific genes. This confused me because I am trying to understand what makes a NZ a NZ. When you say chinchilla in this is that just the coloring or is it the actual American Chinchilla? Are all of these medium sized meat rabbits the same base bunny make up and the different breeds I see are just differences like that?
I have heard of the hybrid vigor and I am curious how that works with the NZ reds when crossed with NZ red eyed whites. Is there going to be some issues with these babies being used as breeders in the future producing smaller bunnies?
Thanks again for all the work you do for these videos. I'm learning a ton.

New Zealand’s are medium breeds and have the ability to create several different color mutations. You can have a chinchilla looking New Zealand, but it’s not showable - a lot of this is for folks that compete for rabbit shows, and there is a standard of perfection when it comes to showing rabbits, which is black, white, red, blue and broken for new zealand’s. Appointed judges will expertly judge the quality of color and more. Rex rabbits for example, have a lot more colors that are showable. All the other color mutations that happen with your new zealand doesnt make them any less new zealand with your pure breed Rabbits so they’re still New Zealand’s but they’re just not to the standard of perfection. A lot of people don’t care about this but it’s good to know why the colors are doing what they’re doing if you ever wanted to get a certain result or achieve a certain characteristic you know how.
hybrid vigor is when you cross breed with a different breed of rabbit, but this will create a mutt which is detrimental to your production sales because they’re not considered valuable to most buyers. more times than not, folks are looking for a certain breed and color of that breed. For that reason, these are not easy to sell because people don’t really know what they’re getting, Certain breeds are known to possess certain strengths like big litters good moms, fast grow outs etc.
If you’re just breeding for more rabbits, it doesn’t really matter when it comes to a meat production.

A red eyed white is being masked by the recessive lowercase cc in the C series, so until you breed that white rabbit you won’t know what genes and color mutations that rabbit can produce so best of luck. I hope you get the results you want.
Chinchilla rabbit is its own breed, and is bred with other chinchilla rabbit, to maintain those stacked alleles for true breeding.
but color mutations with Agouti and other gene sets can create a chinchilla color look as we talked about with the New Zealand. They are not the same thing.
A chinchilla is a terrific breed for productions. i’m referring to medium chinchilla not the giant chinchilla breed. They should have big litters terrific fur, and she should take very good care of their litters. If you experience a rabbit that is having small litters, she is either passed her breeding prime, which is 2 to 3 years or she is just a rabbit that you may want to cull from your production not all rabbits are created equal and you want to continue your productions with rabbits that have good numbers /big litters.
when you’re ready to level up, there’s a lot more information we offer on our courses

@@TheRabbitryCenter Thanks so much for this. I think that cleared it up. So color doesn't matter for production purposes so long as they were all NZ. I was confused when someone told me that the white NZ and Red NZ would give hybrid vigor and not be pure. It sounds like you are saying that as long as I breed the NZ for growth rate, size, and motherly qualities the color crossing won't effect the meat production. I get that it is easier to sell the pures as far as color goes. In making a pedigree I assume that as long as they are from a line of NZ its going to work if they are showing the genes you want? For instance if I get a red eyed white it covers pretty much everything else and it will always make REW when bred to another one so it shouldn't be a big deal if it comes from a mixed group right?
We have enjoyed seeing these kits from the red to white. Its a roll of the dice what we get but I get excited seeing a bunch of random colors.

    • @TheRabbitryCenter
      @TheRabbitryCenter  5 месяцев назад

@@joshuarobbins9193 Yes, your chances are best to get REW's when your breeding a rabbit that has the same recessive genes.
      cc.
So it's best to breed whites with whites and blues with blues and reds with reds. This also stacks the alleles with the offspring. That way you can get more consistent results in the future and drift out the unwanted genes(genetic drift).
But breeding is a crapshoot so remember you only get one gene from mama and one from Dad. So if your Dam or Sire rabbit has a dominant "C" gene, some of the rabbits could inherit the Full Color Gene and some would randomly result in a different color because they wouldn't have a matching lowercase "c" and the Dominant Full color would now be expressed showing the masked gene's.

Do New Zealand red and blue rabbits grow as fast as New Zealand Whites. And will both of thse colors and Palomino rabbits hit 5.5 pounds in 10 weeks or do they grow slower. Because I have ,2 Palomino bucks that are 6 months old and only around 5.15 pounds. I think it may be the genetics or do they just grow that slow.
    Thank you,
    Chester

      Thanks for asking
color genetics only affects the color not the grow out rate- read New Zealand’s were the first original New Zealand and then in 1912 there were four albino rabbit switch, started red and whites- all rabbits are a little different so when picking out breeders(regardless of color) how to always make sure you improve your herd, you want to breed only healthy rabbits that’re good producers, and have a good size litters, fast grow out rates. You’ll notice some reds blues whites etc. have superior genetics. Those are the ones you want to concentrate on and build your herd with.

    • @TheRabbitryCenter
      @TheRabbitryCenter  Месяц назад

Not at all, this is a pretty common question Rabbit hocks are very padded with fur and as long as you offer a resting board of some sort like a piece of wood or tile they can stand on from time to time the cage floor bottom will benefit your rabbits, keeping them clean by urine and manure falling through the cage. It’s hands-down, the best way to raise rabbits. Also, you can collect the manure and use it for your garden.
