Love the look of the ply as opposed to the popsicle-type sticks most use. So much more dimension and cost-effective. Love the hardware you chose. I love that you're trying new things...this is so cool!
It was definitely a decision made on a whim when I seen a scrap piece of ply sitting in my shop. Thank you for the compliment

Looks great!!
Thanks!
So cool! I have never seen anyone use the plywood for the herringbone.
Thank you so much Trina. I’m glad you like it. I think plywood end grain has a very cool unique pattern.
Love it! 👍👍
Thank you 🙏
I love the herringbone! I’m going to use that on a piece next week!
That’s super awesome Brielle. I’m glad I was able to lend a bit of inspiration out.
If the surface is prepared well, acrylic latex does great. Black sheep House uses it with similar results. Def need a topcoat but most paints do.
Thank you so much for the info. I’ll be doing some research with different paints
Do like the effect from plywood edges (even though some of us still use those popsicle-sticks since, one, they're birch, and real wood, and, two, I don't have the saws to make these from plywood. Ya use whatcha got.) Completely reasonable for painting, so good job all round, imho...
Thank you so much. No shade using popsicle sticks at all. I just feel plywood gives off a great pattern
I love the piece. But love the herringbone drawers so much it would be neat if the rest of the piece was in a darker, contrasting color to really make those special drawers pop.
Thank you so much Tracy. I really appreciate the compliment. I do have a follow up video to this pieces so stay tuned for that.
Love it 😮
Thank you 🙏
Love everthing about it, you nailed it! the hardware and legs was the cherry on top. Behr makes a really good chalk paint that sprays beautifully. The finish is really smooth for a chalk paint and the varathane works well as a topcoat over it.
Thank you so much for the compliment lashonda. I appreciate the advice and recommendation for the chalk paint.
Very Cool😎
Thank you patti. I appreciate you
Good job
Thank you
Amazing!! 😍
Big thanks 🙏
Loooove this!

NICE JOB!!
Thank you Lori
Those middle drawers is absolutely gorgeous! Love it! I was a bit sad to see the base and hardware go, but maybe you will reuse them another time? The piece looks amazing, well done! 🙌
Thank you so much Emma. I definitely kept the base and hardware. It was to move to just toss out.
Amazing!! Nice work- i love this piece:)
I’m glad you like it. Thank you so much
The herringbone pattern looks terrific, genius idea to cut your own strips of the plywood Samuel.
Thank you so much Stuart. I’m glad you like it. I was hoping it was going to work.
New subscriber here! Those drawers are fantastic! Nice job! 👍🏻
Thank you so much for the compliment and support. I really appreciate it.
You should use the paint you are comfortable with. This piece turned out fantastic.
Thank you so much
It is very chic and $500 would be a steal. Great decision to paint it and love the herring bone,
Thank you so much Marie. I’m glad you think so highly of my work.
Even though it took forever for you to cut the plywood down into strips, the effort was well worth it! The end result is gorgeous. 👏
Thank you so much. I’d say probably around 3 hours to cut it all to size.
Samuel, you have a really good eye for design. The pulls and the legs are perfect. The herribone pattern takes the piece to a whole new level. You are talented.
Thank you so much James. I appreciate the compliment for sure. I’m glad you see the talent in my work. Take care!

What a cool transformation...Good Eye Samuel...and Save that Base as you Never Know when You will need that...I love the color and Chevron pattern... stunning 🥰👍
Thank you so much Debra. I definitely will hold onto that base.
Love the look. Outstanding!

You did a fantastic job! The herringbone is perfect, thank you for the details
Thank you so much for the compliment
Love it and the herringbone pattern is lovely 🥰
Thank you so much Andrea. Nice to see you in the comments
Grand-tastic ! Probably gone .but was thinking light sage green on all hardware but then may limit clientele
I actually redid it in a nice green color and sold it
Beautiful, I love the way it turned out...so clever to use plywood 'rips' for the herringbone pattern. Nice job!
Thank you so much Colleen. I’m glad you like the end result. I was pretty stoked about the plywood and how it turned out. Just needed a unique touch
Samuel, what an amazing job you did, your talent and ideas are spot on. This piece was much different from what you usually do. But! Your creativity came out in a whole new light. 👍

Nice job. Not sure about the legs but it looks appropriate...I would have loved to see you sanding the bottom were the original legs were. We might not see it but for customers focus on attention to details that is a plus. The same applies to the spread paint inside de furniture.
Thank you so much. I really appreciate the tips
Samuel! We did it again! We picked up Oxford street for one of our projects yesterday!🤯🤣🤣🤣
No way dude!!! That’s so crazy. They do say great minds think alike. This is to convenient

Wow! The idea to use the plywood on those drawers was brilliant. Love the legs too. I just used those same ones on a dresser I refinished. Thanks again for another great video Samuel
That’s very kind of you lorrie. I really appreciate you stopping by once again. I guess we have some of the same great taste in choices.
@@CedarPineDesigns you have definitely inspired me on pieces I have done. :)
@@lorrieguinn8221 I’m so glad I’ve been able to.
I think some people are talking about your use of latex paint. Chalk paint gives a longer lasting finish and Behr has it. Latex looks good while fresh but but the older it gets the more plasticy it tends to look. And if you want a change, mineral or chalk paint is easier to work with, and is easier to blend or do more artistic effects with. If latex works for you, keep it up!
Also, if you want to try a mineral paint, one of the middle priced ones that actually performs like the most expensive, try Melange paint. It also comes with an all in one, with primer and top coat included!
Thank you so much for the compliment and all the info. I’ve see people use melange and it looks great. I’ll definitely have to take a look at some of these mineral paint companies.
Love the herringbone but not a fan of the natural tan. I love color and like your bolder choices.
Thank you so much. I have an update video on this piece if you’d be interested in watching it
Absolutely stunning! Gosh, I couldn’t sell this piece-- too pretty.
Thank you so much. Trust me when I say I have such a hard time not keep things for myself
Samuel, this piece is so beautiful!! I love the herringbone drawer faces! I think if you’re perfectly happy with the paint you use, you should rock with it. I like Behr as well but also really enjoy fusion mineral paint. It’s pricey but high quality. Great job as always! ☺️
Thank you so much for stopping by and leaving such lovely comments. I do really appreciate it. Question with the fusion mineral paint. Does it still require a top coat?
@@CedarPineDesigns it doesn’t! But, I usually do one on the tops of my high traffic pieces.. and sometimes I will use wax on the body of them if I want to richen the color. It’s nice knowing that I wouldn’t “have” to though. I did a nightstand for my sons room a few months back.. he’s 10 and doesn’t care about keeping furniture nice and there isn’t a single scratch or anything on it yet. I didn’t use any top coat on the body after using my favorite fusion color, coal black.
@@rebelrefurb8397 wow. I’ll definitely have to do some research and check in on that. I just feel like I have to do a top coat. Especially over paint. That could definitely save some time
I really like the chevron pattern and the use of end-grain plywood to create it. Madebyraphael has been doing this for a while, creating some really unique and beautiful pieces. You’re correct about the paint though- I’m one of the non-fans of over-use, although this piece turned out very pretty. I just prefer a little more grain to paint ratio. Curious to see how quickly it sells.
Thank you so much Amy. I’m glad you like my work and I to love plywood end grain furniture pieces. Unfortunately for this piece it some very boring wood grain. I do have an update video coming soon for this piece so stay tuned.
@@CedarPineDesigns Roger that 😊
You did a great job it turned out beautiful. I think that's actually a Chevron pattern, not herringbone. But I love it. Well done.
Thank you so much. I was sure to call it herringbone or chevron. I believe herringbone is more of a staggered pattern correct?
I believe so. Either way it turned out stunning.
@@tiffanysmallen3704 thank you
You're very welcome!
I love this design. Fantastic work. I think your product choices are fantastic and easily accessible. A lot of high end furniture paint is not cost effective and hard to purchase in person. On the ply wood herringbone, what does the texture feel like after you top coat?
Thank you so much for the positive feedback. I to don’t think the high end paint is worth it at the end of the day. The ply wood felt so smooth after I sanded it smooth and did about 3-4 coats of poly.
We were planning to do a wash but the piece got messed up so we will be tinting the Oxford street with a lighter color for a different look
That’s so awesome. That’s what I did with mine. I like that I can change the time of it while keeping the same color
I really like the added detail to the piece. However, in the video ,it really doesn’t stand out with the light color on the rest of the dresser. You did a great job!
Thank you so much. I actually did a follow up video on this piece.
Just wondering if you had a chance to see the furniture I've done yet..let me know what you think..stay blessed 🥰👍
Where do you post your work?
It's Beautiful! Beyond Beautiful in fact! That is one of the best herringbone patterns I've seen in a long time! They all lined up perfectly! Love the diamond pattern it made on the middle drawer, that detail on those are top of the line!!! How you don't keep all the non commissioned ones is beyond me, lol! Hope you have a great rest of your week!
Thank you so much Georgia. I’m so happy you think so highly of my work. The plywood pattern was definitely a mid project decision and I’m glad it worked out. And to be honest, the diamond pattern it made between the drawers was a little sweet surprise for myself.
Higher end paints yeah, how much more do they cost is the issue. Behr is the best paint ived used.
It’s a bit more but worth it
Beautiful!
Looking for a link to the hardware??
I’ll try and out it in the description. Try checking in the next hour
Thanks !!!
Sorry but, nooo, that poor birch veneer. R.I.P
Thank you so much. Sometimes I have to sacrifice
Who do you sell your work to? How do you get your clients?
I sell online mostly on Facebook or Craigslist and over time clients become word of mouth or return customers
Hello Samuel I have a question.
Have you ever tried to keep one of these original and have to match the stain on a thin piece of veneer that blew through an edge sanding or had a chip in?
I've got a gorgeous mcm dresser with THIS Very finish and I don't know if I should paint the little spot or stain it.
Have you done such a repair?
My piece is perfect other than this one small spot on front edge and I'm dying to keep it original.
Btw Samuel, whoever originally designed this piece would be yelling at the screen "Now why didn't I think of that?!"
Thank you so much rhonnie for reaching out. I’ve definitely sanded threw the veneer on the edges plenty of times. What I did to fix this is stain as normal and let dry. You will then see that the edge where you sanded to far is very light. I get either the stain and a rag, or a stain pen and go over that spot and let dry a bit before dabbing off. Repeat that process basically letting the stains dry over top of the light spot and dabbing away leaving it on the surface of the wood because it won’t penetrate and match.
I hope this helps, if not let me know and I’ll try to explain it in more detail.
@@CedarPineDesigns Thank you Samuel! Going to buy stain markers in the morning!
