How often do your gums bleed? It could be because of something simple, like brushing or flossing in the wrong way. Or it could be a sign that you need to get checked out for a health problem.
Common Causes
If your gums bleed, it could be because:
Have gingivitis, a disease that makes your gums red and swollen.
Either you brush too hard or your toothbrush isn't soft enough.
Your gums aren't used to flossing yet because you just started.
Take certain medicines, like those that thin the blood.
Because you're pregnant, your gums may be sore (pregnancy gingivitis)
Have false teeth that don't fit right?

Gingivitis
If you have gingivitis, which is an inflammation of your gums, your gums will bleed. It's a common, mild form of gum disease that happens when plaque builds up at your gumline.
If you have gingivitis, your gums might be red, swollen, and hurt. When you brush your teeth, they might bleed.
Taking good care of your teeth will solve this problem. You should brush your teeth twice a day, floss every day, use an antibacterial mouthwash every day, and go to the dentist often.
Periodontitis
If you don't take care of your gingivitis, it can turn into periodontal disease, or periodontitis, a long-term gum condition that damages the tissue and bone that hold your teeth in place.
If you have periodontitis, your gums may become swollen, infected, and pull away from the roots of your teeth.
Periodontal disease could be the cause of gums that bleed easily. Your teeth may get loose or separate. You could also get bad breath, a bad taste in your mouth, a change in how your teeth fit together when you bite, and red, swollen, painful gums.
If you don't treat gum disease, you could lose some teeth.
Diabetes
If you have type 1 or type 2 diabetes, your gums may bleed or get swollen.
When you have this disease, your mouth isn't as good at fighting off germs, so you're more likely to get infections like gum disease. Diabetes causes your blood sugar to be too high, which makes it hard for your body to heal. This can make gum disease worse.

Leukemia, a type of cancer, can cause gums to bleed.
Platelets in your blood help stop your body from bleeding. If you have leukaemia, you have a low number of platelets. This makes it harder for you to stop bleeding in different parts of your body, like your gums.
Thrombocytopenia
If your gums bleed when you brush your teeth and the bleeding doesn't stop on its own, it could be because your gums are irritated or because you have low platelets.
If you have this condition, your body might not have enough platelets to make a blood clot. That can make different parts of your body, like your gums, bleed too much.
