Thanks Brian. It’s so handy to see the comparison with similar colours, but with this one it’s a nah from me. I really think they need a good purple, rather than just coming out with different shades of grey. I’d missed the boat on the Dark Lilac ink and Safari and I think they should bring back the ink with an Al-Star the same colour. Also a Dark Purple 2000 - please Lamy! 😄

I have completely different opinion: I like this whitesilver a lot. If I would ever collect Safaries, the set shown in this movie would be the most appealing to me.
Ps. I checked this "dark lilac" you mentioned and indeed it's very good colour and while some such pens are still available on ebays/amazons - they are 300% more expensive now.
ps. 2. The idea of dark purple Lamy 2000 is great! 👍

I think Moon Dust is the obvious ink here, but Diamine Night Sky, Pelikan Edelstein Moonstone, and Herbin 1670 Stormy Grey would also be great picks. If you're going to go blue, as you usually do, Diamine Blue Lightning would be my pick.

I’d love to see a copper or brass AL Star in the future.
As far as ink pairing, I completely see what you mean as this pen “serving up” the ink color. I could see any ink working in this pen perfectly, especially a bold ink.

    • @anneinauckland2318

I really wish they’d bring back the Copper Orange Al-Star and the ink to go with it. That one came out before I’d discovered the joys of fountain pens.

I love my many Lamy pens and I'm sure I will end up getting one of these, but I must admit it doesn't really strike me as very revolutionary. There isn't much in this one to set it apart from the very similar ones you showed and which I already own. It would be good for them to be a bit more inventive, as they did with the Candy Safari series, rather than effectively re-releasing the same pen again and again.

    • @houghwhite411

@@houghwhite411 I agree. I like both the colours and the texture or feel of the candy safaris in the hand. The silvery grey Al-Stars however are less inspiring. They're just too similar to one another. The candy safaris stand out.

It's a great colour, but it doesn't look like a special edition, to me: it looks like a very solid, standard offering. Would expect something a little riskier and more unique for a special edition. Just my two cents! Thanks for the video.

I am so happy that I haven’t fallen down the Lamy Rabbit hole. I have several All-Stars and have gifted many Lamy Safari’s & a few All-Stars. All of them are dependable great every day writers. I was into Kaweco for a while, feeling the urge to get the latest new color. Love the brass models and nib variety. My rabbit hole turned out to be Twsbi’s- all models. I prefer the nibs and the piston filling mechanism. That being said the Lamy 2000 EF is one of my all-time favorite pens. It’s in a class of its own.

  • @Spooktastic1816

I agree, I think a silver pen like that can use any ink color and still work for those who like to match ink to pens. I put in the same category as a black or white pen - where any color will work, but I think you made some great suggestions nonetheless. I was also happy to see Lamy Obsidian mentioned, though, because I recently got that one myself and LOVE it. It's one of my favorite black inks I've tried so far. Such a beautifully dark black.

While I agree that this doesn't scream "special edition" to me, I have to say, I am really digging the "uniform color" of the silver throughout all the metal bits. My father worked for a rolled aluminum plant all his life, and I guarantee you, I'll be ordering this pen. I have my mother's vintage Parker's and now I'll have one for my father, too. Interesting choice, even if it does rather seem "basic" as opposed to "special edition" but it works for me.

  • @johansiebers3579

Picked it up a little over a week ago in the local supermarket in the German town where I’m spending the summer writing and thinking, and I love it. The colour is subtle but very different from other silver, aluminium or steel colours. Also it’s not mother-of-pearls. It’s almost like magnesium. You have to see it in real life to appreciate it. The tranquility it breathes makes it a great pen for those agonising and anxious letters and journal entries about our vexed souls as well as for keeping it cool when in the throws of passion. What a poetic little number! I agree with Brian that it ties the whole pen together in a way no other AL Star so far has done, showing another, more integrated and spiritual side to this classic pen of pens! Love it! 😍

  • @jamesfahey7188

I like this colour. I want an Al Star/Luxe. Basically something nice that I can use with a Lamy gold nib. I suppose buying the gold nib puts you in the Lamy 2000 zone, but you can use the nib on basically any safari/luxe/al star. It’s a system like Lego -I love that. Lamy’s are basically indestructible.

    • @sebastianriemer1777
      @sebastianriemer1777 2 года назад

I disagree. I use lamy since I'm 6 (fountain pens are standard in German schools) and non of them survived very long.
Its usually the cap that cracks or doesn't stay on the pen any more. I also used to chew on them but that's another story.
I'm 42 now and one of my 3 lamys just broke yesterday. But they are cheap, write well, I'm used to them and I don't have to worry about losing or dropping them like I do with my Montblanc.

  • @tedscheckler1

I agree with the ink colors. My silver/stainless/aluminum pens usually get greens, sometimes magentas or purples. My dad had a Cross or Parker(?) stainless pen when I was a kid that had a green felt tip and I had such a sentimental spot for a stainless/green combo.

Would be cool if they did like a metal that has patina but without actual patina if you know what I mean. I really like how brass ages but it's too heavy on my hands to use an actual raw brass pen. So an Al-Star that looks like aged brass (or copper or whatever else) would be dope.

Because If I did get an LX, because they look pretty spicy. I'd get one with the fountain nib, slap that in my EMR's Black AlStar Case. This is where the converter has to fit in the Rollerball Case.
And the EMR-Tip, which I assume is almost identical to the Rollerball's head assembly, needs to fit in the LX's (Fountain) Case.

Having just gotten last year's "Azure" al-Star, and already also having the Ruthenium LX (it would have been interesting to see a side-by-side with that pen, BTW) I think I can pass on this one. Sorry I missed out on the old one with the black clip, though.... I totally agree with you on how the prices shoot up on the second hand market, though -- I'd been lusting after one of the old French Blue Safaris for several years. Kept looking on the Bay of Evil and freaking out over the NOS prices. I mean, French Blue is a great color and all, but when push comes to shove it's JUST a Safari and NO WAY should it be going $100+ for one! But watching several listings nonetheless.... Then last year, when I got a notification saying one of them had just been relisted, I logged onto eBay and then looked to see if there were other new listings -- and glorioski! There was a used one for not much more than the MSRP for a used French Blue as a BiN/Make an Offer. So I made an offer, and the seller made a counter-offer and I said "Close enough for government work!" And got it for about the retail price of an al-Star, and it turned out the seller was halfway across the state from me, so it came pretty quickly. A few bite marks on the end of the barrel, but barely noticeable, because of the matte plastic. And (even better!) it had a converter already installed. Of course now I'm going to likely be looking for the old al-Star with the black clip.... Grrrrr (my wallet does NOT thank you for that, BTW...).

I think it’s the same as the plain aluminum color they sold about fifteen years ago

On Tuesday I went ahead an placed my order for a Lamy Turmaline Allstar which I planned to order with the new WhiteSilver. In order to qualify for free shipping, I ordered about $50 worth of ink and cartridges for my pen collection, ink I had no immediate need for. I thought your message about the WhiteSilver not yet available implied to me that the pen would not be available for a lengthy interval which was shaped by previous shopping experiences in this era of manufacturing delays. Instead, it was only 2 days. Is there any way my order, which apparently has shipped, could be amended to include the WhiteSilver Lamy Fine Nib even though it will need to be shipped separately. I’m somewhat embarrassed to be such a cheapskate to be upset about an $8 shipping fee but your records ought to show I had expressed an interest in purchasing the WhiteSilver model and may be what triggered this email message. Please give it some thought. Thanks!

I think this pen is beautiful, although quite stark. I am just generally a sucker for Lamy pens.

I need to see it in person but I think it's boring, it's too safe. Then again I just made a harlequin Safari which is not for everyone, speaking of the car connection, this reminds me of someone who has just bought a BMW or Mercedes. I'm sure it'll be a brilliant car as I'm sure the pen will be but instead of buying the nice dark blue metallic or the pearl red you played it safe and got the sliver/grey because it's the safe choice and that when I sell it, it will sell. It feels like a safe choice to me and therefore the boring choice, and when Lamy can come out with more exciting colours this feels like a bit of a let down.
That being said I haven't seen the pen in the flesh so this opinion may change.
