    Why did you only bed the pillars and not the recoil lug

    I have an Axis with a Bodys laminate stock. When I torque both action screws to 35 in-lbs the bolt binds up. I figured out that the rear screw protrudes into the bolt raceway when tightened past 15. I dropped a washer in between the action and the stock to see what that does and then I can cycle the bolt at 35 in-lbs, but it is very stiff. This leads me to believe that the action is being warped when fully tightened down. Would pillar bedding remedy this problem?

      If done correctly and the screws trimmed to correct length you should be able to remedy the problem. I do believe you should bed the action fully as well. Hope this helps!

      Contact Boyd’s for the required torque on the bolts.

    Did you have to drill out the action screw holes to make the pillars fit

    • @BlacktopTactical
      @BlacktopTactical  Год назад

      I don’t believe I did but it has been a while since I did this. Gonna go with most likely no

      The pillars are larger diameter than the bolts. So yes, drilling is necessary.

    Should I bed the aluminum mag catch, too?

    • @BlacktopTactical
      @BlacktopTactical  3 года назад

      No what you wanna do is just bed it the way I did and you could also go back in and touch up any small areas that are open to fill it up good

    I just bought my boyds stock. What's the point of putting the aluminum pillars?

    • @BlacktopTactical
      @BlacktopTactical  3 года назад +1

      It gives a solid spacer the length of the bolt so when you torque them down you don’t crush the wood but also won’t allow the action to warp

    • @TedDekens

      Why doesn’t the kit have the right spacers?

    • @BlacktopTactical
      @BlacktopTactical  Год назад +1

      They all have to be fit to the rifle. There will always be some variance between the action and the stock and other parts. You want to fit them so that it gives a perfect solid platform to ride on and then the bedding compound will take up any open areas

    Did the accuracy improve?

      I’ve had good luck with it since doing this. The rifle shoots well and is an absolute perfect brush gun! It has grouped right at 1” at 100 yards with some cheap 150 grain soft points. May not seem like much but for a rifle I put together for well under $400 I’m very happy with it.

      @@BlacktopTactical I am swapping a 30/06 barrel for a 280AI barrel on a Savage action. The wood stock is nice and will be beautiful if I refinish it. However, they are not known for being precision stocks. Just not sure if I want to try pillars or if I am chasing performance I won't be able to find.

      @@lanceschul I don’t see it being negative in any way I would definitely recommend bedding the action as well as putting pillars in it. I’m sure it will shoot good. Definitely free float the barrel as well and seal the wood with some tru oil as well. Hope that helps 👍🏻
