By popular demand, here is Sonic Mania 50Hz Vs 60Hz. It's extrememly rare to see Sonic Mania being played in 50Hz and a lot of people aren't aware of it's variation. Today, I'm here to explain what Sonic Mania 50Hz looks like!

Now that I think about it, the DRM is probably the reason why my computer struggled so bad with this game. My old PC is quite old now, but it should be enough to easily run a 2D Sonic Game, but it ran at 20-35fps even running at low resolutions or in 4:3.
I'm shocked that Sonic Mania, a game that came out 25 years after Sonic 2, STILL suffers from an unoptimised sound driver.

I didn't think Sonic Mania could be played in 50Hz, it doesn't exist anymore in today's games. Of course it's an April Fools video. Doesn't look too bad though.

There’s a way to put the game in 50hz tho, its called going into the Nivida settings and tuning 60hz in the display settings to 50hz...
Oh my gosh that's what I said I was beaten too it. How does it play. Is it still slower? Or is it finally optimised to have the same speed of gameplay and music of 60hz?
@@90sNath well if you change monitor settings, that only changes the speed data is set to the monitor, not how fast programs run.

@@90sNath It would probably be optimised, most modern programs don’t work the same as Mega Drive games and run at the same speed just looking less smooth as they are using less frames. There are some games which still have elements tied to the frame rate but they are very uncommon these days, usually only *extremely* lazy developers (*cough cough square Enix*) would release games that still worked like that. A good example I can think off of the top of my head was a recent Dragon Quest game shoddily ported to PC which would slow down at low frame rates and had no frameskip option, you just had to choose a frame rate target (60, 30, 20, or 15.) and with that it would run slower at 50hz.
Studiopolis Zone ~ Act 2 slow actually sounds good.

Me before watching this video: Looked at the title and thumbnail. Was excited about another comparison video since they are amazing to watch. Paused a moment because of the video length. Usually they are 9-10 minutes long, but 162 seconds long seemed suspicious. Also the fact that I don't recall Sonic Mania running at 50Hz.
Me after watching this video: Loved that game cartridge fail you often do, with this one being the funniest. Nice 50Hz attempt trick for an April Fools joke, even though I truly didn't fall for it as I know the true differences between 50Hz and 60Hz.
Speed (mix of tempo and pitch) would have been reduced to 99%, since slowing it down still played at the same pitch.

I'm surprised no one else mentions that speed thing. I've always liked how PAL slightly reduces the pitch of audio because it sounds more "correct" to me that way.

The slowed down variant of Studiopolis Act II synchronizes perfectly with the Second Quarter track used in the Arcade version of NBA Jam; definitely makes for a good Mashup Mix to use in the EA Sports console reboot entries, those two titles need more music as is and this helps. (:

All things considered, the music still sounds great at the reduced tempo. Also I was under the impression that Sonic mania would actually do something crazy at 50Hz since Taxman's version of sonic CD loses it's shit on my 144Hz monitor. Incidentally so does sonic adventure 2. Why not really try running sonic mania at 50Hz to see what happens?
It doesn't go too bonkers. Just runs the same way Sonic 2 would in 50hz. Proper speed music but slower game play and animation. (Sorry for being 3 years late)
Did I really just discover a series devoted to the refresh rate of Sonic PAL conversions? That's ABSOLUTELY my kind of niche, oh dang. Haven't watched yet, but I hope I can output Mania to my 50hz crt without slowdown.

Looks like this brand new Sonic the Hedgehog video game is a compilation of the classic Sonic the Hedgehog games, just like Sonic Mega Collection Plus (which I have for the PlayStation 2).

So I guess I'm the only one in the world who expected there to be a 50hz setting or speed equivalent in the settings for this game! Coming from the uk 🇬🇧 this was how our sonics played and it's what we are used to ! Same as anyone who played in Europe in the 90s. As good as the game is, I think this is a massive oversight on the developers part!

I wonder what console version came in your Collecter’s Edition.
You know, it actually is possible to set your monitor's refresh rate to 50hz, but that only affects the FPS displayed on your monitor, I think.
the game expects to be locked at 60 so if you set a 50 fps limit it actually does run slower

In this modern age, there’s an opposite issue with 120hz. Instead of being tooooo slow, it’s way2fastlikesriously.
It gives PAL nostalgia but also gives high refresh users a hard time with super sonic speeds.

That makes me wonder. Why didn't Team Mania make a cartridge form of Sonic Mania? I know it's because of cartridge costs and size-limitations (and time constraints), but I have my own SEGA Megadrive (Flashback 2018 by AtGames) so I really want a proper way of playing Sonic Mania on a Megadrive, you know what I mean! Do u agree? Like if you do.
