      You are doing well on the project. I would like to see you “cut and buy” like Fitzee does. You might want to get some clecos to fit the pieces in temporary. I always shop Airhead parts, they are a good source for my single cabs and 11 windows.

    Howdy I am the Bugman from North Carolina and been working on bugs now for 60 years. You are doing a good job so keep it up. The left door probably should be replaced but to the bottom rotted out as you will need this to be good to support your door seal as you well know. Also when you put the rubber seal in the door may have to be adjusted again. God bless.

    When you sent me those pictures i knew it was cut too high. It just didnt look right. Best way out was what you did. Split it and drop that part down. when you laid the one piece over the other the thickness of the metal needed to be accounted for you would have needed to measure from the bottom of the new part not the bend in the corner.

    CT you can just hammer and dolly that lip at the door pillar when you pull the door off again to work it. I am working on these same areas right now on a 66 bug I'm doing. Between You, Mike F, Fitzee and Darren you have me rolling and answering my questions along the way. CT you keep it real my welding skills are on par with yours but its getting the work done and your gaining some serious VW street credibility with this project.

    Probably worth popping the wing back on to confirm the new bottom captive nut lines up before completely welding it up.
    When you do the other side give the Fitzee's "cut and butt" a go.
    I tried it on the bottom of a Karmann Ghia engine lid and it's surprisingly easy.

    Hi CT! Welding tip: Don’t weld one hole after the other. You are over heating the sheet metal. The tin is so thin that it’s losing all of it strength. Weld from one end to the other end and so on. Regards

    Considering how it appeared when you bought it, it’s come a long way 👍🏻 it will be really fun to see you finish the body work up because then it’s just re-installing stuff. I honk if you do the white paint first, then some really light yellow layer and then some of that rust color it’ll really look natural rust. Have a great Day! 😊

    One tip I can give you is never be scared to weld back on a piece you cut off from a panel. a welder and grinder can reattach any panels you cut wrong 50 times if needed. It's all just metal.

  • @darkfactory8082
    @darkfactory8082 Год назад

    Lookin' good, things are coming together, I'm happy you share it all, so we can see also the not so pretty part of it.. 😉 You're doing great, tools do help a lot, but you can do much more with the most basic tools you have. I would say that you're holding the seam zipper in hand at 29:25, just grind a smidge off the pointy side, so you get a little wider flat end, make it blunt and pair it with a dolly that fits the best. Let's be honest, you very rarely need a pretty sharp end on the hammer for bodywork, because usually that's the dolly's job to keep sharp edges. For easier access, remove the door. I know, it's a rollercoaster with the doors on and off, but it's worth for ease of access. 😊
    We're ready to see more, Keep on, no turning back.
