The patterns include: narwhals, seahorses, jellyfish, sharks, a mermaid, lighthouse, beach huts, boats, starfish, dolphin, whales, swordfish, sailfish, seal, oyster & pearls, treasure chest, sea otters, sea turtle, manta rays, clown fish, Scottish salmon, shells, seaweed, coral, sea holly, unicorn fish, sea birds, penguin and puffin. Single line continuous motifs are included. And a sea glass stitch sampler design and lettering patterns for the words Sea, Love and Ocean. Plus a message in a bottle.
De-ann Black is the designer. She designed and stitched the patterns from her original artwork. The designs are an artistic representation of real creatures and flora.
Most of the patterns use stranded cotton embroidery thread (floss), but metallic thread and crewelwork patterns (wool embroidery) are included. The crewel wool and metallic thread patterns can be stitched with cotton embroidery thread if preferred. Suggestions are also given for adding sequins and beads, and pieces of scrap fabric to create appliqué.
The book contains full-size templates on single-sided pages so you can trace the patterns on to fabric ready for embroidering. The pattern instructions are at the back of the book.
The patterns are ideal for hand stitching and hoop embroidery. Many of the patterns fit into standard size 5 inch, 6 inch and 10 inch hoops.
The stitches and thread colours are suggestions. You can of course use your own favourite stitches and threads to sew the patterns if you prefer.
