He was like a completely different boss for me. Dude just spammed the ground slam or the gravity slam and then just dashes away the second I reach his face. I didn't even know he could attack from the face. Move spam seems to be a common theme in this game...
When he looks like he's about to rush, jump and hit his face a couple of time. It really depends on rng, his front attacks are all random but going under him always baits him to slam
yeah and the amount of one shot moves he has, no matter how much vitality you have. if i dodge the grab attack he just goes in again to try and grab me again.

Na, its wors for mage… he has 10k health and moves alot… even the inf fp azur comet doesnt really work against him. I know this because I tried. Ima just use one of my larva tears to get the same stats as this guy.
I had trouble with Astel, finally defeated him by upgrading Latenna to 10, summoning her by the entrance amd staying out of the way, remembering to dodge the giant laser beam. She did all the damage for me, best summons for a boss so far for me :)
I had the same idea but didnt think about leveling her up to 10 but after a few tries and then sneaking in to get some early damage on him she finished him (I did hiy his leg for final blow :) ) but great advice!
just beat him after about 10 tries. Granted, I am level 70 with a +12 Uchigatana. Unsheathe him 4x and he staggers. Don't bother with any other attacks in the 1st phase. Your video showed me where to stand and how to dodge his projectiles. He is easiest when you're right in his face.

@@iredlama4829 Try using the Bloodhound Fang if the game is too difficult for you. It trivialises PVE so much that I've banned myself from using it. FYI mine's around +8 after I went back to pick up the weapon after this boss. I completely destroyed the next few optional bosses after a few tries without having to learn their attacks.
Thank you - this was super helpful. Even just the tip to roll INTO the purple beam changed the battle entirely. Plus it helped seeing you walk around so nonchalantly. After watching this video, I beat it first try. You rock.
My first try went so horrible i only got one hit in and died. I beat him second try because of a good stagger at half health then a bleed right after which made it much easier
If you're getting your ass kicked constantly and is looking for the easy mode, get the Latenna summon to max, get bloodhound's step on your weapon and anything that reduces fp usage/increases fp going. Go in, dodge the first ray, summon, keep Astel's attention on you and just bloodhound step when necessary. Go in for a cheeky two handed jump attack if you want to make it quicker. Latenna murders it and Astel will almost never turn its attention on her.
I can’t believe this thing is in my way to get the dark moon great sword I’m so close and I keep getting completely destroyed this has been the hardest boss for me so far.
Man, I'm really loving the boss designs and scale in this game, so far my favorite is the red haired lady from the trailers, what a beautiful design, and you as always coming to the rescue with the strategy, keep it up Holmes
Pro tip, make sure u got good DPS, and don’t go under him, stay more on his sides, he slams less but u can see it come to roll out. Then botta bing botta boom, he felled.

3rd time I got him, I stayed medium range and he was doing the swipes that's relatively harmless and blasting the ground, and I rock slinged him until stagger, crit, repeat. Other two times I died I got grabbed. And big up on the Meteor section - running straight at it is the sure fire way to survive that.
@@blastofo his swipes where it leaves mist whiff often or are super easy to avoid at the right distance to bait it out, and have a long animation where the boss is vulnerable. It’s the prime moment to attack - ranged if you move back to avoid it, melee if you roll inside of it. After you make that attack, you move back into that general mid distanced position and the boss will do it again
@@jonathanleon4966 You're too far to bait the swiping attack, which leaves a cloud of sparks that ignite. You want to keep that precise distance and he'll repeat that move, or the ground smash - and you'll be more than far away enough to not get caught by his teleport/gravity move
This boss was so annoying for me all I needed was the advice to roll towards him when he teleported in to eat you. I always tried to roll away and he always gobbled me up one bite

The worst part about it is that having the guts greatsword is the most annoying thing...need to farm on some faster weapon. First boss that is actually almost game braking for me...30 deaths in a row and still looking for some tutorials to cheese this bitch somehow. But great vid dude learnt a lot :)
I'm not sure how the Greatswords attack, but I think if you're using a GS you should stick to 1~2 hits so you'll still have enough stamina to respond to it's up coming attacks.
For those of you who are mages here I recommend spamming rock sling on him as it staggers him in about 3-4 hits and make sure you are using a tanking spirit.

Holmes you got me through bloodbourne and cemented me as a soulsbourne fan for life, but I have to ask. Why no summons? No magic? is this just a personal preference or are you trying to make a statement about not needing summons? I didn't really like them much early, but once i found mimic ash of war, I felt like I was co-opping with myself and loved it!. No shade on your playstyle, just a question.
Hey David! Thanks for the support & comment. Summons for me is a last resort kind of thing. Most of the time the summon would throw off the bosses attack pattern making it harder to learn the timing. I do use summons if I'm playing by myself. But if I'm recording the boss fight as a guide, I try to not use summons due to the fact that not everyone is gonna have the same summon unlocked/leveled.

They buffed everything about this boss his aoe does 10 times more damage an you can stagger him anymore with my build at least. I got him with like 12 unsheathes and nothing

Agreed. I just attempted with the same guy co-op 4 times in a row. Each time we got him to about 30%-35% he would teleport/insta-grab me for the one shot kill. Without that move we would have beaten him all 4 attempts.
i dont know if im just higher level than the game intended, but with two or three uses of the rivers of blood ability to the head did him in (mine is +10 so probably just stronger than intended)
My build for Astel was Being over leveled (169) 42 vigor 18 mind 40 endurance 55 strength 55 dexterity 10 intel 15 faith 13 arcane Radahn armor set Bloodhounds fang +6 Longbow with poison arrows Spelldrake talisman Crimson amber medallion Viridian amber medallion Winged sword insignia Clawmark seal(left hand) (I didn’t use incantations but you can) I used mimic tear to help with aggro (when mimic has Agro use bow or charge with bloodhounds fang and use lt move) When you have aggro focus on dodging and letting mimic get damage in Edit-you can also use buffs to increase physical damage, and boost defense for his magic
Twinblade user here. Got him on 3rd try. Just staying near his face grants you 2-4 hits and yes, you should run from some attack. Nowhere near as hard as you might think.
I have about 45 hours in total and killed it on my first try with my melee build *only character all you have to do in this fight is use a summon that distract it at the start of the fight and get some good hits in but you have to have patience with hits as it can tend to do aoe attacks at times so always stay wary for that
That grab after teleport, rolling into him doesn't work cause he just grab you from literally under his belly. Im currently in the mid of his fight and I have no idea how to dodge that

Im stuck at him and already died like 25 times . I beat radahn in second try ( in the first try he killed me with his magic arrow). Lvl 65 30 dex 26 int , +9 icerind hatchet ( doesent work on astel ) and tried moonveil +7 that does no damage to him
you messed up leveling up that axe... I almost did that, but I leveled the meteorite ore katana, and the starscourge greatsword at this point of the game and they both did way more damage. I’m sure you’ve beat him at this point tho lol
@@bwillsskates2638 same weapon I’ve been using and it’s at +10 and does ok damage. Just need to use some incantations and level up your ashes and find a better weapon than what you using. I’ve tried like +10 and keep getting close but Ima try again tomorrow with the tips from the video and comments.

@Viper Hareous the only bosses I’ve found boring is radahan and multi boss fights, though that might change when I get further into the game

How do you deal with the tail swipes??? The twil swipes always kill me bc no matter when i dodge i either instantly die or roll through the attack

Mimic Ash given the Shabhiri talisman to draw aggro, and then repeated Comet Azur and Rock Sling. Took me a few tries but all done.

Mine is much more agressive. It does a lot more warping and purple attacks.

I have about 45 hours in total and killed it on my first try with my melee build *only character all you have to do in this fight is use a summon that distract it at the start of the fight and get some good hits in but you have to have patience with hits as it can tend to do aoe attacks at times so always stay wary for that

I’m using the same weapon and I upgraded it a bunch but I just can’t seem to get the bleed damage I don’t know why how does bleed work exactly
That grab after teleport, rolling into him doesn't work cause he just grab you from literally under his belly. Im currently in the mid of his fight and I have no idea how to dodge that

Dude I'm a level 84 samurai with high dex and this utter asshat was repeatedly handing my ass to me in pieces! Guess I need to "get good"!?
I used the envoys longhorn against this guy really powerful against him cheesed him once i got close and started spamming the skill attack
Just beat him around my 50th try With my ancestry bow and arrow guy. Hardest fight yet.
Im stuck at him and already died like 25 times . I beat radahn in second try ( in the first try he killed me with his magic arrow). Lvl 65 30 dex 26 int , +9 icerind hatchet ( doesent work on astel ) and tried moonveil +7 that does no damage to him
you messed up leveling up that axe... I almost did that, but I leveled the meteorite ore katana, and the starscourge greatsword at this point of the game and they both did way more damage. I’m sure you’ve beat him at this point tho lol
@@bwillsskates2638 same weapon I’ve been using and it’s at +10 and does ok damage. Just need to use some incantations and level up your ashes and find a better weapon than what you using. I’ve tried like +10 and keep getting close but Ima try again tomorrow with the tips from the video and comments.
