MicroGenDX Collection Instructions
Nail Sample Collection Method (Clip & Scrape)
The MicroGenDX Collection kit will include, 1 Nail collection bag, a bio bag, a lab requisition form and a MicroGenDX box.
CLIPPED NAIL METHOD
Step 1: Clean nails with alcohol wipes
Step 2: If nail clippers are kept in cold sterile container, rinse with saline prior to cutting. Skip this step if using autoclaved clippers.
Step 3: Clip the nail as close to the discolored area as possible.
Step 4: Put the swab into the Nail Collection Bag and seal shut.
SCRAPE NAIL METHOD
Step 1: Clean nails with alcohol wipes
Step 2: Use scalpel to scrape the top nail bed to collect shavings.
Step 3: Plane nail shavings into the Nail Collection Bag, the seal the bag shut.
Step 4: Tightly seal the tube and/or 2mL vial.
Step 5: Place your completed MicroGenDX lab requisition form in the front pocket of the bio bag. Add nail collection bag into the larger pocket, peel of the adhesive strip, and press to seal the bag. Place the sealed bio bag into the MicroGenDX prepaid shipping box and send out to your facility protocol.
