Aww my husband is Finlandssvensk, speaks crystal clear Swedish. Because of that, living in Finland and all, some of the Swedish-Swedish accents are really tough to even hear words for me, but you were crystal clear and I understood every word. And never took a course. Point is, your Swedish is lovely!
I love Turkish Airline and have been using them since 2011, when I discovered them when another airline cancelled my flight. I have been flying with them ever since. The entertainment choices are very good and the meals served are good as well. And the new Istanbul airport is beautiful but like he says there is a lot of walking. I lost my phone and called the lost and found office there and they said they had my phone. The problem is most of the people working there had no idea where this office was at so the directions had me walk around the airport 3 or 4 times going through passport station many times till someone when out of their way to help me. And I had to run to catch my plane after I got my phone back. If you like to shop, you will love this airport.
WiFi - to work around the 1 hour limit, if you have a laptop for example, is to us a Mac Address Changer. Then you can simply change after each hour. I've done this plenty of times in airports and coffee shops around the world, when they have set restrictions :-)
I’ve been to Istanbul airport many times as I come to Turkey almost every year, Istanbul airport at this time was still being built and the work was half finished I understand all the inconveniences you had but Istanbul airport is truly amazing
probably he didn't get any free ticket from Turkish Airlines yet . he will make another video to say how great are them soon as he get something free !!! yes I ve seen the Qatar videos
Istanbul airport will be fully ready and comfortable in a couple of years. The opening was a bit rushed, it is functional but not fully operational. In a couple of years i guess will be fantastic.
Welcome back Dan ! I hear some not so good stories about the new airport and you nailed it...you have to walk for miles to get anywhere and some friends who were there recently said parts of the building looked only half finished and they were still working on it. Your tour of the toilets summed it up....and 60 Euro's for a shower in the lounge ...forget it ! Flight looked reasonable and as always you are very honest and frank about your trips !! Looking forward to more...well done again mate !!
I do and dont agree. The furthest gate from passport control is 15/20min walking, which is pretty normal compared to many other big airports in EU. For connecting flights, you have access to “shortcut” routes if your connection is below 2 hours. The taxi time used to be long yes but only untill the 3th runway opened in June 20, taxi time reduced by 40%, 3 more runways are opening soon. The airport improved really a lot after opening. I have flown many times from IST and it gets better every day. I hope you will have a good experience.
Congratulations to your Mum on her new job. Dans Mum: Wishing you health, wealth and happiness in your new career. Much love and kind wishes from Australia.💕
Thanks for the review, I totally get the competing with the Middle Eastern airlines point but I would add one huge value of Turkish Airlines -> reduce travel time on the way to Asia when connecting in Istanbul compared to other middle eastern airlines.
Anthony Sebastiani another advantage of flying with Turkish Airlines is that they are a member of Star Alliance. It is a huge deal for frequent fliers to be able to earn elite qualifying miles (unlike Dubai or AbuDhabi based carriers). They also offer a free tour of Istanbul for those whose layover is long enough.
Just a reminder to people seeing this video now that Dan took this flight in September, and I believe this was a scheduled upload. Obviously the timing isn’t great... but I don’t think he’s trying to make any particular statement by posting this. Well, thanks again for another honest review Dan.
Stor skillnad. Tack för en suverän kanal, mycket underhållande, även om jag aldrig åker business/1st class, haha.
I was at the new Istanbul airport in July and wasn't overly impressed in the craftsmanship of the buildout. I couldn't believe how there wasn't any places to shop or eat besides right after security. It's a massive place but I fear it will show its age quicker than most airports.
And with so many deaths that went into construction of it, one has to wonder who came up with building this airport and building it the way it was built. Does anyone know if the Erdoğan regime was behind the construction of this constructor-killing project?
So Changi airport keeps its crown for the best airport. You get free unlimited wifi, tons of entertainment spaces and stores to walk around. 1 hr limit on wifi is just not cool.
dudeN Turkish airlines offers free istanbul guided tours (hotel+restaurants are included) for free so I don’t think wifi is a big problem for people with long layovers
I dont know the transfer route but there are more than plenty of food shops and restaurants in the main hall on both sides of the terminals. Just ask the stationed helpers who can assist you where to go. Yes its a lot of walking but that is a given with such a huge airport that is destined to handle traffic of 200M passengers a year and there are buggy cars available for a small fee that you can use. Either way, if you dont prefer this airport there is still the smaller Sabiha Gökcen (saw) airport on the other side of Istanbul that you can use.
I flew from IST to CDG last month. The wifi is sucks. They gave you 1 hour limit but you can’t even used it or at least on my phone it doesn’t work at all. Airport is huge and beautiful, but yeah they opened it too soon. I prefer Ataturk airport. Flying with Turkish airlines, the food choices is not really that good comparing to the older days, but it is better than any european airlines especially Air France.
I will be traveling through there with my kids. Was wondering about there seats & foods. Thanks so much 🙏🏾 You video really help me with the airport, etc. Good thing I only have less than two hours layovers from America to Africa (first time traveling) 😊
honestly, turkish airlines from sofia to Istanbul was my best flight... period...., and i am considering qatar. that is because qatar can do basically do whatever they want. so yeah

Fantastic Review on Turkish Airlines and Istanbul's New Airport Dan! I also visited both the airline and airport in June and I have to agree with you that Turkish Airlines is quite a good airline and that the airport is a bit... meh. But I flew Turkish's 777-300ER and A330-300 and I noticed that the A330 had better economy seats than the 777-300ER. Liked
Right. So at first your Swedish sounded extremely American but like after American Express the Gothenburg dialect kicked in. Absolutely fantastic! One can hear you’re not comfortable though :)
I miss the machines where you could get drinks or snacks from the old airport. In the new one I only found one, and it was soo badly placed. I saw it when i transfered from an international to domestic flight, but its placed before the security check, so when passing you have to throw your drinks away, and you cant go back. Also I miss the free wifi from Starbucks. Couldnt find anywhere in the new airport with free wifi, except the official 1h limited one. Atleast there were a ton of places to charge your phone and more than enough seating.
They accept credit cards. I was able to use my card last December. Why wont they have this service anyway? It‘s an international airport and they are modernised.
Here’s my question to all the frequent fliers out there. If my ticket itinerary shows the arrival time in Istanbul at 9 am and my connecting flight leaves from Istanbul at 11am. Does it mean I have 2 hours to make a connection? Which should be OK? Or is it 9am landing (touchdown) time which doesn’t mean that the aircraft will be at the gate at 9am - it can take another 15-20 minutes to reach the gate and another 20 minutes for the passengers to de-plane. In which case my connection time may be less than an hour and considering how HUGE the new IST terminal is - there’s a chance of not making it to my connection gate (since all transit passengers are required to pass through security check again in IST)
Thank you for the honest review. I am definitely also not a fan of that mega massive airport. Toilets and help desks are shameful. Only good thing is the turkish airlines star alliance gold lounge. Try it out next time! I have a video on that lounge too :)
just booked a flight from dusseldorf to Mahe (seychelles via istandbul) and turkish was almost EURO 500 p/p cheaper than Emirates (flying via Dubai which I prefer but also not worth the extra costs)
When you solely look at the seats perhaps indeed Emirates is a better choice. Yet, Emirates has 6 different economy class fares where Turkish gives you free seat choice and luggage.
I had my flight delayed for three hours in the new Istanbul airport. To be honest, my experience there was horrible. The food option was very limited, and Turkish Airlines offered vouchers for some passengers for a single choice of meal.
I am a lover of TK, so I choose them more often than someone who has no loyalty. Lol. That being sad, your final advice is on point. I enjoy your reviews the most, Dan. Hugs.
I'm really conflicted about IST and TK in general... it is a nice airport and a nice airline, but it is government-owned and that government isn't exactly operating above board in Kurdish Syria.
Hi Dan, thank you for a lot of good videos. Your argument of why Turkish isn't an European airline would also make other airlines like TAP a Non-European airline too. If Istanbul is the transfer hub for one or not depends on which airport you come from and where you want to go to. Here in September when I was going back to Copenhagen I had a transfer in IST. With my flight, there were many Ukrainians going to Copenhagen from Kyiv. I talked with some of them and they told me it was a better and cheaper connection for them. The last point is that Turkish flies to most of the world and we are speaking of all the world. I think, outside Turkey, Germany is the country where Turkish has the most direct destinations from IST. Btw IST is a European city ;) I totally agree that Istanbul New Airport is so big you have to keep track of time. Again thank you for a good review from Copenhagen :)
How does it compare to Changi ? It is the intricacies that lie within Changi and most notably terminal 2(the terminal with the most obscure destinations) that make flying so interesting and fulfilling .
YOU FORGOT THE TURKISH DELIGHT???!!! SACRILEGIOUS! Great review Dan, thanks. So Changi still reigns supreme... for now. When are you next going to Beijing? The new airport there is absolutely stunning (that's putting it mildly) - it may well edge Changi out for first place in the awards next year!
Turkish Airlines is one of the best airlines in Europe and also is one of the top 20 airlines in the world and has very much destinations and covers a large area all over the world and this characteristic of Turkish Airlines For the Airbus 321 is a comfortable and spacious plane and the seats of the Turkish aviation in the last seen a lot has been developed a lot more comfort than before, especially with the opening of the new airport has been developed many Moors in Turkish aviation there is a note that the Turkish aviation more diversity in eating food very good Its miserable but you must have more variety and give more options to the tourist class Evil to you my friend
Istanbul is something on its own, not really comparable to middle eastern or european hub airlines. There are a ton of africans transiting through cause Turkish Airlines covers all those small african airports nobody else flies to. Usually 6h flights operated with 737-900ER. You also might want to transit there when coming from Europe if your destination is further north than Doha or Dubai. Like Iran, or anything in central asia. But yes, most people want to fly to or from Turkey, which obviously makes sense.
Well, the experience aboard the plane seems much better than anything I ever experience in the cheap seats on any US carrier, and also on Qantas from Los Angeles to Melbourne. But the Istanbul airport looks like a low-security prison.
Paolo Ariedo they are usually about 22-25% lower than the major European and American Airlines. About the same as the Mideast carriers. Double the luggage allowance of American and European. Luggage allowances on par with Mideast and Asian carriers.
Hope you all have an amazing week! I'm just uploading this as I board a British Airways flight bound for London and then continuing to Toronto on a very special plane😉 Want to see the full behind the scenes? Follow me on Instagram: instagram.com/thenonstopdan/?hl=en

Do they have movies in screen
Hi Dan, great video! - Just wondering what the soundtrack is at the end of your recent videos?
Is it from Epidemic sound? Thanks!
Yes it is :)
Staff at Istanbul airport need a lot of training. They are not helpful at all.
kiran nakarmi they will be getting
Well, the experience aboard the plane seems much better than anything I ever experience in the cheap seats on any US carrier, and also on Qantas from Los Angeles to Melbourne. But the Istanbul airport looks like a low-security prison.
How does TKs *fares* compare, though?
@@odeiraoloap I've never flown that airline. The only non-US carrier I've ever flown on was Qantas, and that was 21 years ago.
Paolo Ariedo they are usually about 22-25% lower than the major European and American Airlines. About the same as the Mideast carriers. Double the luggage allowance of American and European. Luggage allowances on par with Mideast and Asian carriers.
I would think twice to publish a Turkey related flight review right now.
A great review. Thank you
So excited to experience the airport in December.
Hey. Would you recommend this airline to someone who is travelling with 2 toddlers? And what seats should they choose?
Afreen Fakhri yes of course, in my experience tk is the most family friendly airline!
Thanks
Dan try out WestJet in Canada
by any chance is it better than Air Canada?
Canadian airlines are joke
Thanks lovely vlog good luck
AMAZING video! I’m going on the ATR 72 in 2 weeks any tips on which seat I should choose? (It’s BRA so free seating :) Much love from Sweden❤️🇸🇪
I think the plane u flew on had a engine blow some time before
Dan! Why don’t you share your trips, too? And we’d all like to know Oscar and your mom better!
