Getting mine (SB3, 256SSD, I7, 13.5') tomorrow. Thanks for the great info on all your videos. Made the $2000 price tag easier to swallow. More importantly, I'm now feeling much more confident that this is the right one for me. Keep it up dude!!!
Got my SB3 delievered last Friday and am absolutely loving it. Came from a Thinkpad X1 Yoga Gen1. The pen with the SB3 is so much better! Having a 15" tablet to take note and read is pure luxury. Putting it on the base, give me exactly the power I need. Thanks for your video as it increased my confidence before purchasing!
Enjoy & good for you dude. i don't think u will be going back to the usual laptop form factor once u r used to your surface book. If u go back to a normal laptop, might end up looking for the tablet release button or looking for your stylus pen. I used to have the lenovo yoga 920 (star wars edition) and migrated to a sb2 15. The 2-in-1 is just not as "flexible" as the SB.
have u tried the internal microphone? i got mine 2 months ago and my sb3 microphone is not capturing my voices. The window hello also have bugs not closing the camera after i login. do you have similar issue or just me?
@@kamigami303 Hmm. my sb2 15" mic is working fine. Using it countless of times in Discord, Zoom video conferencing, google meet & battlenet. I think u need to check the windows setting and also setting in the app. I dont think i have any problem with the windows hello login. the red and white lights will switch on during the process and off after i am logged in.
@@kamigami303 u r welcome. hoped your 2 issues are just software problem. if still persists, better contact microsoft or the place where u bought it from
The sturdiness of the Surface book depends a lot on the location of impact. On the sides op the lid it's very tough, but not so much in the middle (quite logical, you can't ignore construction laws). My closed 13" Surface Book 1 once got a cracked screen, because a (quite large) bowl was placed on top of the lid.
So this lapstop is actually better than I expected, it just works. I'm okay with the thunderbolt 3missing, but oh boyo wow if they would have packed the keyboard section with bluetoot. So that you wold be able to use this lovely keyboard, while detached from the tablet...
Does it have the same display issues like the SB2? By issues I mean the "temporary" burn'in of the display. My SB2 is driving me insane sometimes. Apparently both 15" laptops have the same display.
Thank you! All those "tips" will be useful! With your old Surface Book 2 did you have any durability problems? Like a crack in the screen or other? I'm really concerned about this. Would you recommend any protection like cover or screen protection?
Is the USB port a quick charging port if used on a phone? If not, got to take a charger and a qc battery, prolly. Qc is a must unlessyou like long charges.
It's not QC, it's only 7W. QC is anywhere from 10 to about 60W depending on the phone. But if you plug your phone in overnight, it's plenty fast enough to get you a full charge before morning.
Any recommendations for USB C docks with SB3, preferably with two HDMI out or one HDMI and one USBC video out. Can the USB C port even be used with two display outs without thunderbolt 3?
Yes actually, if you buy an adapter that supports USB-C Displayport Alt mode then you can connect up to 2 4k displays at 60Hz dancharblog.wordpress.com/2019/02/23/microsoft-surface-usb-c-port-capabilities/
Good to see you took my advice of the paper clip. I too had to find the hard way one time my tablet battery completely died and the whole system was wonky
Hello and thanks for this interresting video. One question... I wondering if the possibility to charge the tablet (in tablet mode, without the keybord) is also possible with the Surfacedock.....? if it is the case, it is also possible to have with the surface Dock, some connections with USB devices... isn't it? I'm very curious... hope that you have an answer... Thanks again
Didn't you watch the video. He shows you how to charge it separately.........why would you want to though, since most of the battery and the better video chipset are both in the base.
I actually just uploaded a video where I talk about this. Short answer: good for 1080, mediocre for 4k. I was really hoping to replace my SB2 with the SB3, but I only saw a 5% video editing improvement over the SB2. After seeing those results, I have decided to, unfortunately, return my SB3. But again, if you don't plan on doing 4k, or you are just using it for home videos, it'll be powerful enough.
Having had BOTH the SB2 and SB3 they made some nice changes on the SB3. I didn't know about the whiteboard mode (good to know though my education days are over) but I DID know everything else here. I used the port for ages from the power brick to power my wireless charger on my desk though now I have a dock on my desk I had to revert to a regular power brick. My OEM charger is in the cupboad somewhere as in my backpack I rock with a USBc->Surface lead, USBc->USBc lead, 240v (AUS) ->USBc power brick and 12v ciglighter->USBc plug. This means I can hook my SB3 to it's own power lead hooked to 12 or 240v and then use the c->c lead from the SB3 to the mobile to charge my Samsung Note10+ 5G. Works a flammin' treat! AND removes weight and clutter! Why use the larger brick (backpack brick is half the physical size of the OEM) to do both when USBc has pass-through power mode and I can lighten and make the load smaller. With the dock I have my SB3 at home hooked to a cordless keyboard and mouse and to twin 24" LED monitors on an arm on my desk, and the wired network cable and my stereo/sound system and the USB tv tuner which I use as a radio tuner/scanner and more. I'm surprised you didnt' show using the screen backward to put it on a 45degree lean for watching videos or folding it back on itself to use it as a folder to walk around with writing on. The only beefs I have with the SB3 are it's REALLY hard to change a battery when the time comes and there's no real active cooling beyond the GPU though it still doesn't cook itself like the POS HP Envy I had before it which burned me too.
I am an Surface Book 3 owner since monday and I love it. Luckily I could buy it over my company. So I got it cheaper and have also Windows 10 Pro preinstalled 😊.
I wouldn't suggest to use a clip to try to detach the tablet from the base, you will damage any type of warranty and you may break one of the many components on that side of the device. ( Believe me, I did that and I screwed it).
Everyone please note that the surface book 3 has really bad screen glass durability, I cracked mine after using to for like 3 months, and I never did anything that was really hard on it.
Thanks for the tip about charging the tablet separately......what you forgot to mention was the bigger extra battery thats in the base.....so thanks I would rather triple my battery time and put up with the tiny amount that the keyboard weighs, plus it protects my screen. Given that you were trying to force them apart, im not sure you are the best person to give tips. I have been a computer tech since you were in diapers. Watching you is like watching the blind lead the blind.

I just bought a surface book 3 for college! I’m majoring in biomedical engineering
Me too! Mechanical Engineering here!
Illustration master here... I wish I was smart
David Ivan OH NOOO
Good for you, does that make you feel special to tell us the subject you are majoring in?
Ok
Getting one of these in 15" from work... can't wait! I understand its got short comings and is really pricey, but for free, can't complain!

Wow that just makes so much sense. Let Microsoft know so they do it for the Book 4

I just got my surface book but I don’t have all those camera features?

Just picked 1 up arriving next few days. So all these tips r new 2 me. Thank uu
Have you had any issues with overheating? I am on my third one! Mechatronics Engineering Student here!
To Techisode TV: I did see your previous video. Lesson Learned, don't try to put an SB2 Display on a SB3 Base.
I didn’t know that separation thing can be done that way

just ordered the 32gb 1TB SSD version... first time I've used windows since 2005 (been on apple), wish me luck!

Think he is asking if the Surface Dock 2 works plugged directly into the screen
Can surface pro keyboard get attached to surface book tablet. Another good video. Never knew about that charging tip of tablet.
Of course it can't, the surface type cover only works with the surface pro line up.
Please please please do a video editing test video of this device, I'm so concerned about CPU performance while editing video.
Too extensive! !!

You can separate the tablet from the base with a button from the taskbar

Yeah I did coment how to do it 😂😂
