- Welcome to the Auto Scholar with Mr B channel!
Today we get into replacing the cabin air filter on this 2008 VW New Beetle... The only problem is, we run into a pretty crazy issue! Not to worry, if you have a Beetle with a cabin filter, this video will show you how to change it. However, not all my videos go as planned! I debated not even uploading this, but I feel people need to see what we see as professional technicians. Don't forget, not all New Beetles have this filter, but most do, and the only way to know for sure is to check. I show you how to do that in this video. Super easy to do!
FRAM makes an air filter treated with odor fighting materials that work well in these. I will drop the Amazon link below to it. If the link is used, the channel receives a small commission. Thanks for your support!

Thank you for this video. My old filter is from 2006.
Thank you great video helped me take a look and I had the exact same problem. Looks like a mouse got in there, Noel air filter for me either. Great video.
same here
I didn't have a rat nest, but at least with the Beetle there is a 😅definitely an insulation problem. I found alot of moisture, leaves, and dirt.
I just replaced mine and had the same pile of the insulation in the same spot next to the filter. In my case and I think in yours as well, there did not appear any mouse droppings or other rodent signs. I suspect the baffle material on the removed lid just naturally comes apart from the air currents over time. I put in some replacement foam I had lying around after replacing the filter.
Exactly... did mine yesterday and the same pile of material appeared. I just cleaned/vacuumed it out and put a Bosch cabin filter on top of the mesh air intake. ;-)
2000 Beetle here. I'm adding my voice to the "i also found a mouse nest in my cabin filter" But mine also went up the A pillar. Over the headboard, Then down the B pillar on the drivers side. into the floor compartment in the backseat, There is a small void on each side of the back seat that was filled with nest as well, My beetle smells way better after this intense cleaning.
Wow! Never seen them spread out that far.
Absolutely, right it doesn't have falter. Just I saw dirty leaf's beside of filter. 🙉😱😱😡😡
The 2007 I drive does not have a cabin filter either. It to had a mouse nest. There is a water drainage opening in the back right hand corner that the mice use to enter in.
This happen to my beetle. And he chewed up the air filter and the cloth filter attached to underside of the panel. I don't know where to get the replacement fabric under the panel. :-( Winter cold gets in easy.
My 2010 doesnt have one either in that location
My 1998 has a cabin filter.
I have a 99 beetle 2.0 dose mine come with a filter 🍻
Most likely
🙋♀️Same 2005 bettle mice nest, very nasty and stinky, didint know I was ubering mice arround 😅
I couldn’t get the plastic off. I have a 2008 convertible and just going with I don’t have one eithe
And 90% of the convertibles I have seen do not have them so you are probably correct. Thanks for watching!
I didn’t want to pry so hard and break something. I did try pretty hard pulling on it
Just went to change the cabin filter in my daughter's 2007 beetle and found the same ,mouse nesting ever, where and no carbon filter ,just a foam, metal grill over the air inlet
So odd, isn’t it? Thanks for watching!
Ya. My 2008 convertible beetle doesn’t have one either
It is hit or miss
The dealer initially thought my 2006 didn’t have one either, but it turned out to be located underneath the glove box
Beetles are the worst to work on IMO. I replaced the heater core, awful job pulled the whole dash. I replaced the vacuum pump without pulling the transmission awful job as well. My 2007 was my youngest daughters driver .
Beetles are bad, but I used to be the one in the shop that had to fix the Phaetons and the Rialtas. WAY WORSE! Thanks for watching.
Fruit rats ate all the insulation off every wire in my '99 Beetle's engine bay.
