I have no idea what Mt favorite summer movie us. Meatballs 1979, a summer camp movie starring Bill Murray. His first starring role. Bill and Chevy previously had a fist fight on SNL. But they made it through the scene together here which was largely improvised. Ted Knight basically hated everyone, but especially Rodney. Ted is a life long professional. Everyone else was hgh out of their minds. And Rodney had never acted so he had no idea what "Action!" meant. So instead Harold would just say, "Do your bit." The film was supposed to be about the caddies, but they kept hiring big name actors. The guy in charge of the caddies "Pick up that blood!" us Bill Doyle-Murry, Bill's brother. The family in the beginning is based on their upbringing as well as both being caddies. Most of Bill's dialog was improvised and he was actually only around for a few days. The whole "Cinderella story bit eas his idea. He asked them to plant flowers there. They learned why after saying "Action." Avoid Caddyshack 2.
Another great reaction by you, Jen. For a great comedy I highly recommend, 'The Three Amigos', which stars Chevy Chase with Steve Martin and Martin Short, I promise you won't be disappointed.
And even better: "Easy Money". "Easy Money" was his first starring movie, with Joe Pesci, HILARIOUS. I prefer it to Back To School, but that one is good too.
The 6 Million Dollar Man is an old T.V. show, from the 70's I think. The main character was injured and parts of his body was replaced with mechanical parts. This basically made him a superhero. Every time he used these parts that noise was made.
Yes it is from the 70's. He was testing an experimental rocket plane and it malfunctioned. He lost his legs an arm and an eye. Every time the camera cut to his face when he was looking long distance it would focus on his eye and make the sound. It had a similar but slightly different sound when he would jump. ruclips.net/video/LfxswTfscSs/видео.html and jumping and running sound fx ruclips.net/video/K82kFgBgHGc/видео.html
Bill Murray and Chevy Chase absolutely hated each other at the time and did not want to work together. Because they were both such big stars and had the history together at SNL the studio execs demanded they have at least one scene together. That's why we only see them that one time in Carl's shack.
@@joerogers9413 Don't sell him short. And remember "He's sentenced boys younger than you to the gas chamber. He didn't want to do it. He felt he owed it to them. "
Definitely watch Meatballs, it Bill's first movie after his run on SNL. And it's still a Bill classic. And if you ever watch old T.V. shows, might I suggest watching the first 5 seasons of Saturday Night Live. It's where Bill Murray, Chevy Chase, Dan Aykroyd, and John Belushi got their start. There's also some other great cast members that probably aren't well known today such as Gilda Radner who was probably one of the funniest cast members on the show and one of the funniest women of SNL. She died in the 80' s and never did any films, so most people today may not know of her. There was aloso Jane Curtain, Loraine Newman, and Garret Morris. And Steve Martin hosted quite often along with Buck Henry. And the first host of the very first SNL ever is Goerge Carlin. I think it would be cool for you to learn the roots of all these comedians in these movies and see your reactions to them.
And no one was very sure of Bill Murray's ability to be a movie-star - but that gave him an good ensemble cast to work with, and enough running gags to maintain comedic interest without 'naked girls required'.
If you ever run into someone who has seen this movie originally, but hasn't seen it since then, or for long enough to largely forget aspects, they ALWAYS remember the gopher.
Hi, Jen. The Six Million Dollar Man was a Movie and TV series based on the Martin Caidin novel, "Cyborg," about an astronaut who suffered catastrophic injuries in a crash. His legs, one arm, and one eye were replaced by prosthetics that provided enhanced performance, used for secret agent work. The sound effect that accompanied such feats was used when Chevy Chase was stunt putting.
Jen, the movie you request that has everything: Meatballs, a summer camp in Canada starring Bill Murray, teenage love stories, and the kid with no friends. Fun fun fun.
"Double turds!" Caddyshack has a ton of little quoteables. My personal favorite - "You'll get nothing and like it!" Ted Knight is hilarious as the judge.
Breaking Away (1979) is like a serious version of Caddyshack. Wet Hot American Summer (2001) is like a parody of '80s teen comedies that takes place at a summer camp.
this was Rodney Dangerfield's first ever movie, and while filming he kept cracking jokes but couldn't understand why the crew behind the camera wasn't laughing. they had to explain it to him that they're not supposed to laugh or it ruins the shot!
The 6 Million Dollar Man was a show from the 70s about a guy who gets horribly injured and the doctors "upgrade" him with cool abilities, which he uses to go on missions fighting bad guys. The spin-off was The Bionic Woman and there was a sound effect like Chevy did every time they used their abilities. Especially jumping high or running super fast.
One of the greatest comedies of all time. The more times you watch it, the more jokes you catch and funnier it gets. The star comedians are at the top of their games.
Jen, That was a very expensive Rolls Royce convertible that Rodney pulled up to the club in. Steve Austin was the 6 Million Dollar Man, a very popular TV show back in the day. He was a pilot/astronaut that had a terrible crash landing. He was "rebuilt" with all these biomechanical improvements that made him fast runner, a high jumper, super hearing, super sight and heaven knows what else. The cost for all this surgery and improvements was 6 million dollars. He went on adventures every week and beat the triple turds out of the bad guys.
The whole scene with Bill Murray and the flowers (It's in the hole!) was improvised by Bill on the spot. Ramis just told him to do something goofy and so he did.
The scene with Ty and Carl the night before the big game was also totally improvised, because production was almost finished and Harold Ramis realized Bill Murray and Chevy Chase didn't have a scene together, and the comedic potential was too good to pass up. They just pointed the cameras at them and turned them loose 😆

First year of college in mid 80's in student apartments we only got 2 local channels in the semi rural town. The 2 films were Caddyshack and Apocalypse Now, 2 of most quoted films a 2 personal favorites of mine.

If you want a Canadian early 80's cult classic, you gotta check out Heavy Metal, from 1981. First adult animated film I ever saw, based on a popular comic magazine originally from France called Metal Hurlante, which showcased outrageous stories of all genres, and the movie is like a pure embodiment of everything a geek could want: fantasy, sci-fi, horror, comedy, all with various gorgeous styles of animation, and with an absolutely badass soundtrack to tie it all together.
Heavyweights is a good summer camp comedy with Ben Stiller that most people aren't familiar with. His character in the movie is reminiscent of his Dodgeball character.
1:36 Harold Ramis did this and acted in Ghostbusters. He was Egon. Sam Raimi did the Spider-Man movies. A lot of Bill Murray’s lines were adlibbed and encouraged to do so by Harold Ramis. 3:58 the man in charge of the caddy’s is Bill Murray’s brother. 5:30 it’s funny how everyone is paying attention to her cause of her top and her uncle is oblivious to what she’s wearing. He seems like the kind of guy that wouldn’t like her wearing that and would say something. This film was based of Bill Murray’s brother’s real life experience as a caddy. 14:41 he doesn’t have any fresh bottles of sparkling water so he was making it look like it was fresh. 16:42 her uncles room and bed. 19:10 he survived the lightning strike and now believes that God doesn’t exist. That would make me an even stronger believer if I survived that strike. 20:10 he wanted Ty to play for him cause he knows how well Ty can play. Harold Ramis got the gopher idea from an old Mickey Mouse cartoon where Mickey is golfing and Pluto sees a gopher and digs up the whole course trying to find the gopher. They added the gopher to bring the film together and Harold Ramis wanted a real animal to play the gopher but couldn’t do it so they did a mechanical one. Which to me is better cause they can do more with a fake one. The sequel wasn’t really that good mainly cause it feels forced like they had to make it. Another golf movie to check out is “Who’s Your Caddy?”.
It's Ramis, not Raimi. Harold Ramis wrote Ghostbusters with Dan Aykroyd and starred in it, the guy directing Ghostbusters 1 and 2 was Ivan Reitman. My summer movie I would say is The Secret to My Success with Michael J. Fox and Helen Slater. And the reason is because it always shows on TV here in Sweden on summers, even this year and twice. A very underrated romantic comedy from the 80's and I think you will like it, Jen =)
Jen, I smiled when you confused Harold Ramis for a Raimi. Two entirely different directing genres. Ramis was also the director of "Groundhogs Day". If you like BTS stuff there still may be a doc on YT about how when they were filming this, it was a non-stop party. In the '90's, they released an automated gopher that looked exactly like it did in the film, complete with fur. You'd push a button on it's base and it would do his twisting dance from the movie to the Kenny Loggins song. I wish I still had mine. There is an inferior sequel, the only retuning character is the gopher. Bill Murry did another summer camp movie called "Meatballs" you may enjoy.
Here are some comedy movies with ....... *Bill Murray:* Meatballs (Summer Camp Counselor) Stripes (Military) *Rodney Dangerfield:* Back to School (College) Easy Money (Baby Photographer) *Chevy Chase:* Fletch / Fletch Lives (Undercover Reporter) Funny Farm (City Writer moved to the country) All these movies are comedies.
Great reaction Jen this movie is absolutely a favorite among many. Its from 1980 so having more of a 70's vibe would fit. I'd suggest Real Genius with Val Kilmer from the mid 80's and Breaking Away 1979.
Two great "summer" movies - One is another Bill Murray flick, Meatballs. Another is Mark Harmon in a movie called Summer School. Both are classic comedies that you'll love.
Real Genius-Val Kilmer comedy about college life, underrated cult classic comedy Midnight Run-Robert Di Nero buddy comedy, same director of Beverly Hills cop.
Summer Camp means Bill Murray in Meatballs. Another summer kind of film is Splash, Tom Hanks' breakthrough role. The intro track is by the king of 1980s movie songs, Kenny Loggins. He also sang Footloose for the film of the same name and Danger Zone for the film Top Gun.
6:42 - "I've heard that!" - The Gopher guts song predates Caddyshack. "Great green gobs of greasy, grimy gopher guts. Marinated monkey meat. All these things are very, very good to eat." :) 6:50 - "Kinda cute." - You can buy an animated version of the gopher. It dances to the song I'm alright by Kenny Loggins. 11:38 - The Six Million Dollar Man was a TV show about a test pilot who was in a bad plane crash. He lost both legs, an arm and an eye. The government rebuilt him with "bionic" parts, giving him super vision, great strength and super speed. Since this was the 70s and special effects were limited, especially on a TV show budget, they would show him lifting something heavy (like a car) while a similar noise played to clue you in to the fact that he was doing something super-human. "Steve Austin, astronaut. A man barely alive. We can rebuild him. We have the technology. We can make him better than he was before. Better, stronger, faster." It also had a spinoff, The Bionic Woman, as well as several TV reunion movies.
80's Summer Movies: -Summer School with Mark Harmon -Summer Rental with John Candy and I'll throw in a non-summer 80's movie. -Cool Runnings with John Candy.
At 16:40 "Fastest guitar solo ever." You might change your mind if you watch the movie "Crossroads" with Ralph Macchio. His character wants to be a blues guitarist. As a guitar player, this movie is so good with the musical talent involved. It's pretty good with one of my favorite movie moments, ever.
Ernest Goes to Camp is a fun summer movie. Another good one is What About Bob- not sure if you’ve seen that one, also has Bill Murray and Richard Dreyfus in it.
*Heavyweights* is a must see great summer camp movie! *Mearballs* also with Bill Murray, I'm sure has already been recommended, so I'll just agree with it. *Ernest Goes To Camp* I loved as a kid, I still do but it is made to be a silly movie for kids. *Camp Nowhere* is a very underrated film in my opinion, I think it is such a cute movie, it also has a mini _Back To the Future_ reunion of sorts! *The Sandlot* is not a camp movie but is the _essential_ summer movie you need to see. *Summer Rental* is a great John Candy family on vacation movie. *The Great Outdoors* Also with John Candy and Dan Aykroyd too on this one. *One Crazy Summer* a Savage Steve Holland movie for a surreal fun funny summer adventure! I love this movie! *Summer School* to check in on those poor souls who missed out on summer fun, but the movie itself still brings the funny! *Stand By Me,* in my opinion, is the perfect movie to close out summer! Best Regards!

I found out recently that the out of place section with the pregnancy scare was there because the movie was originally written to be centered around the young caddy Danny, but when the high profile comedians signed on his role was reduced and all the comedians were given larger roles, changing it from a coming of age drama to a comedy.
@@longfootbuddy Looking back on it there are some cringe moments. For example when Chevy Chase slips a pill into the drink of a girl half his age to have sex with (date r*pe?). She's going around sleeping with every guy in the movie. Danny cheats on his gf with her...

From a wiki... "The Six Million Dollar Man is an American science fiction and action television series, running from 1973 to 1978, about a former astronaut, USAF Colonel Steve Austin, portrayed by Lee Majors. After a NASA test flight accident, Austin is rebuilt with bionic implants which give him superhuman strength, speed and vision" It had a few movies as well and a spinoff series called "The Bionic Woman" I watched it as a kid. Was a great TV show, but if you watch it today you will be able to tell it's from the 70's...not in a crappy way but still!. When ever Steve would run fast (and he could run fast than cars) or use his incredible strength they would add in some music (always the same music) and a sound effect that sounded like "duhduhduhduhduh" or something similar!

Chevy Chase in Fletch(1985 ) if you like the synth music from Beverly Hills Cop you will like the catchy tune in Fletch.
As an 80s kid one of my favorite summer movies was Meatballs, definitely a classic
Meatballs with Bill Murray is a good 80's summer camp movie. Actually 1979 but close enough lol
Ramis was the one with glasses in Ghost Busters.
@@Cheepchipsable And in Stripes.
Here are some comedy movies with .......
*Bill Murray:*
Meatballs (Summer Camp Counselor)
Stripes (Military)
*Rodney Dangerfield:*
Back to School (College)
Easy Money (Baby Photographer)
*Chevy Chase:*
Fletch / Fletch Lives (Undercover Reporter)
Funny Farm (City Writer moved to the country)
All these movies are comedies.
Great reaction Jen this movie is absolutely a favorite among many. Its from 1980 so having more of a 70's vibe would fit. I'd suggest Real Genius with Val Kilmer from the mid 80's and Breaking Away 1979.
This movie and Animal House were popular comedies for us frat boys in college back in the late 70’s and early ‘80’s.
“Meatballs” is the ultimate summer camp movie! Bill Murray’s first movie I believe. It’s a classic comedy.
Two great "summer" movies - One is another Bill Murray flick, Meatballs. Another is Mark Harmon in a movie called Summer School. Both are classic comedies that you'll love.
Yes, Summer School is very enjoyable and very unreacted to.
I was going to suggest both of those movies as we6.
Jen needs to see Texas Chainsaw Massacre before Summer School 😅
Love reliving these old classic movies. You seem to have a lot of fun with them, which makes them even better!! Keep up the great work. 😂
kenny loggins ..the best music in movies...caddyshack/footloose/top gun.. all the main hits are all from kenny loggins
Real Genius-Val Kilmer comedy about college life, underrated cult classic comedy
Midnight Run-Robert Di Nero buddy comedy, same director of Beverly Hills cop.
"Back to School" starring Rodney Dangerfield is another one worth watching.
...and he thought the gopher was damaging the course. 😂😂😂😂.
Some older summer movies that I loved growing up: Little Darlings and Indian Summer. Indian Summer stars Bill Paxton and Diane Lane.
This movie is a riot. Must've watched it at least 100 times. A true classic.
Bill Murray didn’t have a script, Harold just let him do his own thing, he is a master of improv
6:42 - "I've heard that!" - The Gopher guts song predates Caddyshack. "Great green gobs of greasy, grimy gopher guts. Marinated monkey meat. All these things are very, very good to eat." :)
6:50 - "Kinda cute." - You can buy an animated version of the gopher.
Hi Jen! Your natural and immediate grasp of music is awesome!!
80's Summer Movies:
-Summer School with Mark Harmon
-Summer Rental with John Candy
and I'll throw in a non-summer 80's movie.
-Cool Runnings with John Candy.
“Meatballs”. Great “camp” movie starring Bill Murray. Kids going to summer camp with adult humor. Thanks for all you do!
I watch Jen Murray everyday so I got that goin' for me.
I quote this movie almost daily. "So I got that goin' for me."
2 favorite summer movies, Flamingo Kid, and Breaking Away. Also, anything that ends in a boat race.
ONE CRAZY SUMMER!! It stars Demi Moore and John Cusack. One of my favorite 80’s goofy comedies.
You've probably heard people say many lines from this film but didn't know it, like, 'You'll get nothing and like it!'
At 16:40 "Fastest guitar solo ever."
You might change your mind if you watch the movie "Crossroads" with Ralph Macchio. His character wants to be a blues guitarist. As a guitar player, this movie is so good with the musical talent involved. It's pretty good with one of my favorite movie moments, ever.
Loved this movie, and it reignited Rodney Dangerfield's career for a whole new generation.
We snuck in to see this when I was 12. This movie was everything.
The Six Million Dollar Man is a popular television show from the 70s. The "sound" is iconic.
Thank you for the reaction!
A very good Dangerfield film is Back to School 😊 (1986)
Bill Murray eating the Babe Ruth candy bar is the funniest moment in movie history.
Two 80s movies for you with Rodney Dangerfield, Easy Money and Back to School.
"Last time i saw a mouth like that it had a hook in it." Thank you, thank you for leaving that line in. 😆
One of my all time favorite comedies. Another raunchy teen comedy I think you’d like is Porky’s. The guy that played D’Nunzio is in it.
Might be considered extremely poor taste for this day and age, but it was huge at the time.
The actor playing the guy who runs the caddy shack is Bill Murray's brother, Brian Doyle Murray.
Jen my go to summer movie from my childhood is the original Bad News Bears(1976) not that unwatchable Billy Bob Thornton remake. Walter Matthau is great along with my first preteen crush Tatum O'Neal
I found out recently that the out of place section with the pregnancy scare was there because the movie was originally written to be centered around the young caddy Danny, but when the high profile comedians signed on his role was reduced and all the comedians were given larger roles, changing it from a coming of age drama to a comedy.
yes, i was kind of rooting against danny actually
@@longfootbuddy Looking back on it there are some cringe moments. For example when Chevy Chase slips a pill into the drink of a girl half his age to have sex with (date r*pe?). She's going around sleeping with every guy in the movie. Danny cheats on his gf with her...
@@petercofrancesco9812 I dont have a copy to watch back right now, but im pretty sure he just mixes some opened bottles together to fill one up, put the pry off cap back on, and then shake it up to look like its just fizzing when he opens it up.
@@petercofrancesco9812 true.. true.. im fairly used to cringing.. been doing it all my life
@@petercofrancesco9812 No, he doesn't put anything in her drink.
One of those movies where the behind the scenes chaos is possibly more interesting than the actual movie.
From a wiki...
"The Six Million Dollar Man is an American science fiction and action television series, running from 1973 to 1978, about a former astronaut, USAF Colonel Steve Austin, portrayed by Lee Majors. After a NASA test flight accident, Austin is rebuilt with bionic implants which give him superhuman strength, speed and vision"
It had a few movies as well and a spinoff series called "The Bionic Woman"
I watched it as a kid.
I love it when CC translates Chevy Chase as Chubby Chase 😂
Albeit a small role, Harold Ramis is in "Knocked Up," which is another comedy that you may enjoy. Also, please watch "Top Secret!" and "Soapdish"
My favorite small role of Harold Ramis is Orange County
I recommend Stripes. It stars Bill Murray and Harold Ramis
Harold Ramis is indeed Egon. He also directed Vacation.
JEN: A Comedy Classic (in the spirit of a crazy fun Summer Camp Movie by way of College Fraternities) by THE SAME PEOPLE that brought you CADDYSHACK: "ANIMAL HOUSE"!
11:35 in the late 70s there was a TV show called: The 6 Million Dollar Man. He was half man, half machine. Whenever he used his bionic powers, that sound was made.
Great reaction, Jen. You're fun to watch. Here are some of my favorite 70s / 80s movies:
"Annie Hall"
"Body Heat"
"Fast Times at Ridgemont High"
"Gandh,"
"Highlander"
"The Matrix"
"Mississippi Burning"
"The Right Stuff"
Meatballs. It is a summer camp movie. 100% set in summer camp. Amazingly funny. and a young Bill Murray the star.
A fun summer camp series .. Friday the 13th. :)
Fast times at Ridgemont High would be a good watch
So much fun rewatching this cheers yt nice recommendation . " Think I have enough butter now "🧈 lol umm yeah I think so hahaha. Number 2 is even more bonkers but definitely a laugh that's for sure 😅 cheers Jen for starting my week with laughter 🔥😀💙
Just sitting here watching the splendid Jen react to a classic ....."so I got that going for me"
😂😂
CaddyShack was the Perfect Movie to Jumpstart the 80s and is a Timeless Summer Time Classic, little Back Story on Chevy Chase and Bill Murray's Scene they had personally been in a Fist Fight on the Set of SNL the Previous Year and Had a Lot of Animosity for Each Other but Acted out the Scene Professionaly and this Was Harold Ramis first Movie as a Director and the Studio Was throwing up mad Interference
The Six Million Dollar Man noise is reference to an old TV show called the Six Million Dollar Man. He had bionic limbs, and that sound would happen every time he would display some extreme strength.
