- First time changing the oil on my Cub Cadet Challenger 500. The dealer had done the initial oil change and I was surprised how tight of an area I had to work with to remove the filter. When removing the drain plug be aware it is loaded with an internal spring.

Good to know that the plug is spring-loaded!
Hello and excellent video. I’m helping my neighbor with his cub cadet oil change as well. But it’s a 2015 challenger 700. I am not sure if the motor and or layout is the same as yours. Thanks 🤠
Hi AZ railfan, I would think they would be very similar. Just watch for the spring loaded drain plug. That one caught me off guard😄
Let me know how it goes!!
I appreciate you watching the video and commenting. Im from Oregon, where are you guys at?
i was an auto repair tech for 48 years. troy is right that is water.
Hi Steven, Im afraid your right. Its time for another oil change. I will video that one, to see how much water is still in there. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍
Great job 👍
Thanks Rick. Its time for the next oil change.👍
Thanks for watching and commenting.
what size socket do u uesd
Thats a good question. Its been too long ago, and I cant remember. Im out of town for another week, or Id run out to the shop to find out. Do you have a Challenger? How has it held up for you?
Wow. Lots of water. Not good for the bearings.
Nope, its gas. The fuel injector is set too rich. Changing the o2 sensor will help. My oil level is always rising from gas washing the cylinder wall. I fill to middle of band and change when its at full.😡
The caps on these are ridiculously cheap and weak cast metal. Mine stripped, used a stripped bolt remover and the entire thing broke off, now I'm unsure what to do beyond taking it to a shop and spending hundreds of not 1000 getting it fixed. All for an oil change.
Good lord, what a nightmare.
Is the cap still holding the oil in?
I wonder if a fluid pump could suck the oil out the oil dipstick hole. Then just forget about the broken drain plug? Worth a try.
I bought a new cap and gasket for the next oil change. I was pretty skeptical of the quality of the original one, so I will be replacing it.
Let me know what you end up doing. Good luck!
@@retirementwithpete9859 Because the cap is hollow, it actually has a large ununiform hole in the middle, all the oil poured out. I may have to just try and tap what limited metal is there and see if I can't make a new albeit smaller drain plug from the original. Otherwise it'll have to be hauled to a mechanic. Local UTV places won't touch them unless it's their brand and the massimo dealers/mechanics have HORRID reviews. Regretting ever purchasing the brand. Their CS is non existent refuse to reply to emails.
Is yours a cub cadet or one of the other brands? Im actually changing the oil on mine this coming week. Ill do a video of it, and mention your problem. See if any viewers have suggestions.
Ill see if that skid plate is removable. If it is, maybe a visegrip can grab the outside of the cap, if you have anything left.
Like you said, it is cast, so it should be brittle. Maybe a grinding blade on it. A bunch of small kerfs into it. Then beat it with a hammer and a block of wood or chisel. I can definitely understand your frustration. That sucks. Ill let you know what I can figure out!!!
Warrior 700, so the same maker as yours. Even the drain with filter is same as yours.
If you want, send me a picture of the cap. Ill add it to the video. It might help others with some repair ideas.
Id set the brake and block the rear tires and winch that thing straight in the air, thats if yours has one. Take the skid plate off. Then Id go to town on it.
😄

If its got hisun or massimo attached to it you asking for trouble. The company warranty and service stinks.
Hi Edwin. Unfortunately, id say your correct. Even thou this side by side has cub cadet stickers, im sure its made by massimo.
That said, other than a new fan gear and a parking brake sensor, its been a pretty solid rig.
ITS FULL OF WATER !
Hi Troy, I thought the same thing. I checked the reservoir and the radiator, and both were full, so I dont thing I have a bad seal. Unfortunately, I dont get to drive the buggy very much, so I'm guessing its condensation, which is very common on utv's and atv's. Do you have a buggy? And have you had this issue before? Thanks for watching.
That's the break in oil. Looks like dirty honey.

Hey Thomas, thanks for watching! Ive never owned a utv or atv, so I wasnt real sure if that was normal or not. But it surprised me when it came out looking like it did.
@@retirementwithpete9859 That's very typical. I run Mobil 1 synthetic Motorcycle oil in my Hisun with a K&N filter. The engine comes alive with really good oil.
@@gonedeep43 Thanks for the tip. Ill definately give that a try on the next oil change.
I put an exhaust silencer on mine and it really helped with the loudness.
