- 愛媛県松山、伊予鉄道の名物、坊っちゃん列車を撮影してきました。なぜ、乗務員が三人もいるのか。そして、どのようにして終点で向きを変えているのか？
EOS 6Dで撮影してきました。
This is Steam Locomotive type Streetcar( Bocchann train) which is running in Matsuyama City Line.In this movie you can see how this train change their direction in the last stop.

松山の街に坊ちゃん列車と路面電車。。。風情があって最高です！
坊ちゃん列車が松山の街を走っているのがかわいい
可愛い！人が押して入れ替えする姿とてもいいですね。まるでタイムスリップしたか？と錯覚させるような不思議な空間ですね。大都市でこんなサービスを見せる（魅せる）ところが、この会社の素晴らしいところだと思います。

客車が退かないと一般の路面電車の運行に支障が出るから路面電車の運転士も客車の移動を手伝ってますね。

合宿の時に乗って、この坊っちゃん列車の中で顧問が部員の一人にマジギレしたらしい

ディーゼルとはいえ立派な機関車！車体が軽いからか結構キビキビ走るんだね
転車と客車入れ替えが人力なのは大変そう

Late reply, but I'm pretty sure one of Kato's starter sets looks quite similar to this. Look up Kato Pocket Line (green Chibi loco)
- Why do the shunt the cars by hand? They've got a loco to do that!
- why do they turn the loco in the first place? It's supposed to be a tank engine, designed to run equally well in both directions...
They dont have enough place for a second track connection - loco cant run around the car.
They probably turn the loco because being a diesel it may have car technology built in. But the gearbox of a car is NOT geared to equally fast driving in both directions, especially not when it comes to an automatic transmission, whioch this thing surely has.

Maybe I'm a bit sarcastic, but to me this contraption only looks like a steam engine. From a distance. But what the hell IS it?! Diesel? Electric? I'm puzzled...

Good question. Maybe it is electric. It gets away quick enough.

This "contraption" is, as the external appearance of the locomotive itself reveals, is a field locomotive and thus one of the smallest existing steamers besides of "toy trains" or ridable miniature railways.
The loco in the video is a replica of the original loco with a diesel motor - the original is preserved and standing under a tiny roof at Baishinji Park, meanwhile over 130 Years old....
The pantographs on top of the cars arent for electricity pickup. Some tram systems use the pantographs for signalling purposes or / and switching the points, therefor every vehicle that needs to switch signals or points or give back signals to the main controller needs a pantho at the wire and the related contact....
