In the VA hospitals, patients can get model kits to build. I was an avid modeler and lived building models of military tanks & planes. One day, I found the brand new A-10 model and built it, then spent nights custom painting & detailing it. The other patients & doctors loved looking at my model jobs because I made them look like real life. After reading up on the A-10 I decided on a 2 model display. I built a Soviet tank and detailed it to reassemble one during a gun run on the tank by the A-10. I spent weeks on it. I had 100s of people following it. In the end, it showed the A-10 firing, & the tank getting hit and starting to explode. I figure it cost me about $100. in materials & paints etc. I had worked on all the parts to the display separately. When I did the final assembly for display, it took up a 8 x 3 foot table. All I can say is that I detailed the hell out of every little thing. The 20mm gun was coming in firing, the tank, ground, trees & enemy troops were all hit. No one was fully prepared for the final display. All the veterans just thought it was cool as hell and loved all the realistic details. The doctors & nurses were a little blown away by the violent destructive realistic details. Guess all the miniature enemy soldiers blown to pieces and shredded ground & trees & tank etc were just a bit too real for them. They made me disassemble it all. The Vets booed them. We talked about it in groups for weeks. I gave the display to a veterans group that liked it.

@@nightshadehelis9821 I'm very sorry to hear that. I 1st started going to the old Navy hospital VA back in the early 1970s. Back then, people & groups would send models of tanks, planes, cars etc and other art kits for veterans in the hospital. There were 1,000s of Nam vets there. I had the great honor of meeting some of America's greatest fighters from the US Army, Marines. Many of their records were just about completely blacked out. To me, building the models was a way of honoring the men who fought in them. When I would start painting them & adding realistic small touches. Other vets would stop and point things out. I would always incorporate whatever they said to me into the model I was working on. Little things, the color of the sliding door rails on a UH-1 after they are worn down. Bullet holes, cracked windshields, schrapenal damage on the side of a tank. When a model was being detailed, I might have 20 other vets giving me ideas and stuff. I stopped going to the hospital in the 1990. By then, things were starting to change. The WW2 & Korean War vets started passing away. When they were gone, things really changed. All the old honor was gone. The Nam vets were still pissed off, then the government started up another 20+ year set of wars in the middle east. The government screwed those vets over too. Now, look at the state of our country. With no honor, there is no respect. Respect is earned, not given away. We need more honor & respect from out leaders. They have lost thier way.

Brass: "The F-35 will be replacing the A-10 in the role of close air support" AFTER the 1st downing of the first close air support F-35: "Effective immediately the A-10's will be resuming their previously successful close air support role".
@17ll3 x214 Not 'entirely' true. As long as there are interceptors and air superiority fighters flying top cover, then the A-10 is, for the most part, free to make it's runs as it pleases due to the high durability and cheap cost. By comparison, due to the high costs of the F-35, they will not be able to operate until the air is fully in allied hands, thus making close ground support options nearly out of the question for our tankers and infantry. The A-10 is cheap enough and sturdy enough to fly into a kill zone (with top cover support that is), hit it's targets while taking fire, and get home while the top cover engages the enemy. The A-10 does NOT need there to be full allied control of the airspace.
ThunderChief666 the only threats to an aircraft aren’t always in the air. For instance, Air Defenses, like SAMS, MANPADS, or just AAA from a competent enemy may be enough to warrant CAS from a different platform, even with SEAD, and Air Superiority.

For the uninformed the sizzle you hear when the rounds first hit is the Depleted Uranium tips, the head superheats as its going faster than the speed of sound, its designed to go through tanks, and will suck a body right out the hole. Or when used on brush it doesn't even need to hit you, the vortex it creates will kill you as well. Also for those who don't know the plane has to shoot in short bursts because the power of the gun will slow down the plane, also it will melt the barrel if used too long. They fly so low that the planes come back with lots of holes in them, so the pilot flies in a gigantic Titanium tub.
The vortex and sucksd out the hole for overdressed are false. The uranium is super dense so it forms the core of the munitions, allowing it to penetrate more deeply, before the casing of the the round is stripped away. DU explodes in contact with air sending shards of itself deep into gear and tissue and it is highly toxic. Definitely a terrifying munition

AFTER the 1st downing of the first close air support F-35: "Effective immediately the A-10's will be resuming their previously successful close air support role".
I sincerely hope that the A-10s will continue service by the time I can join the Air Force.
@@notblake8617 Good news! The A10 is a platform now and will be getting upgrades to ensure future service!
@@DorkAndFriends its still accepted that the F-35 will eventually replace the A-10 but for now its getting modernized
Listening to this with headphones is fu*king terrifying lmao 😂😂😂😂😂
"Hog 66 you're cleared hot"... thats badass
A10: the last thing you never heard.
Nice.
Wrong, if you're the target you would be long dead before you'd hear the sound. You'd just be filled with holes thinking "What in the fuck just happened?" if you were still alive after being hit by it.
@@PiousSlayer Bruh. The last thing you *never* heard. OP made a witty tag line for the GAU 8 and you missed it. Also, if even one 30mm explosive incendiary from that cannon hits a man ...well, that ammunition blows people into slop meat.

Shit, I misread it on my phone. Oh well.
I know if you get hit by its shells it's very unlikely you'd survive, if anything is even left of you. In the rare case that you do survive for a moment before dying that'd most likely be your final thought.
The GAU 8 Avenger is a beautiful, beautiful piece of machinery that will always be useful to some capacity. I really hope they don't wind up retiring the air craft and find ways to upgrade it so it can continue its amazing service. It's such a huge morale booster for soldiers on the ground and it has an iconic sound from the rounds impacting the ground and then the BRRRRT that follows.

tbh any f-16, f-18, f-22 or f-35 could do this, most likeyl even better
They can't, or they would have already been doing it. The A-10 is unique in its loiter capability, slow speed maneuvering, and load capacity. It was built to do this and there is literally no other plane like it. The only thing that comes close is the Super Tucano, and the AF doesn't like it because it's not sexy enough and not expensive enough.
@@tudorg22 you obviously have absolutely no idea what you are talking about, the a10 survivability is second to none, it can carry more weapons on more pylons than any other aircraft. The fact you tried to put the f22 raptor which is an air superiority fighter in the same category as an A10 close air ground support aircraft just shows you've no clue.

@@siegehammer63 I’ve been in the field with a10’s in combat, in the war. So basically I have better than normal information than most people, and have seen firsthand with my own eyes what this vehicle can do to humans and tanks. I’ve seen the bloody pile of former human beings shot by this plane and seen what it can do. I’ve seen a Bradley hit a pickup truck with a single round, cut the guy in it in half, blow him out the passenger window and rip off his arm and engulf him in flames, then drop him off about 10 feet away to bleed and burn to death. So tell me again about how you are more informed than me.

@@AndrewP-fj8rn easy to verify if you’re interested. It is fact and I have seen it firsthand in the war.
