I grab cardboard from BJ’s too! My local store piles cardboard boxes in bins for people to take as they leave the store. The city I live in also has two dumpsters for people to toss broken down corrugated cardboard that won’t fit easily in our recycle bins. I haven’t needed to grab any from there yet because I have only one 17 gallon bin of worms. I can picture you stocking up on cardboard from these dumpsters if you lived here though. ( I love free things just like you do! My favorite brand of just about everything is “ clearance “! )
Yea! Another BJs aficionado 😍. I sometimes ask an associate that’s in the back stock room if there’s any extra collected cardboard sheets. I can usually get a few more that way. I do hit up the cart by the entrance you mention but have become picky with only my taking the ones not covered in stickers and tape 🙄🤩. I like the small boxes at Walmart too that the canned items are in. They breakdown easy and generally are clean and ready to shred 👍. It’s amazing to me how much we can get for free or a really good price if we open our minds and eyes ❤️. And it’s all good for us, the worms and Mother Earth! 🪱🪱

You def want the grain mill if you add those beet pellets to your worm chow! I have a nutribullet and it usually does very well, but those beet pellets are a whole other beast! Broken nutribullet blade = grain mill purchase. It did mill the pellets up very well, but it took a long time because the feeder / hopper kept getting clogged by the shape of the pellets.
@@ericaboss1835 I stopped running certain things thru my vitamix as I was scared it was going to blow apart! 😱. I feel the same way toward the nutri bullet on some stuff. The grain mill is great! I have learned to take it slower on the feeding/pour in of larger sized pieces due to potential clogging. And it can’t take wet/moist stuff at all. But it is a grain mill and not an anything mill! It grinds the oyster shells perfectly and that’s huge 👍. I’m very happy with this purchase. 🪱🪱
Hi Jayne, great video. Wow that grain mill is a tool and a half. It certainly would be ideal for my oyster shell grinding, but it is far too expensive for my present needs. I use a secondhand Nutribullet or coffee grinder for my shells and worm chow at the moment. I like the electric scissors, makes light work of the cardboard cutting. Thanks for sharing your tips. Hi Mark! I’m very happy with the grain mill. I lusted after a different grain mill for about a year - before this one was even available - but it was about $250 and weighted a lot! I just couldn’t make myself pull the trigger. Then this everygrow option came along and it was just what I wanted - less expensive and easily moved around as I needed. It’s absolutely a bit of a splurge. But a great tool to have if you’ve got a lot of worms. And lord knows I do! 🤣🤣 Until then, second hand blenders and grinders are perfectly good options to still make worm chores a little easier and more time efficient 👍. The electric scissors are a really good tool too. I wasn’t kidding when I said my elbow would really hurt after a ripping cardboard for a few hours. And then ache for days. Anything we can do to ease the strain on our bodies is a good thing 🪱🪱🤩.
I've definitely got one of those electric scissors thingies on my wishlist that I am hoping to get soon (joint issues that definitely don't appreciate breaking down the cardboard by hand!) The grain mill is also on the list, but for if/when I have some money to splurge. For now, I have another very fancy grain mill that's like top of the line for my bread making that I use, but only if what's going there is a "people food" to begin with. My more pressing splurge is to get an upgrade/replacement for the shredder that totally crapped out. My eggshell processor is similar, but Ninja brand, and I still run through it again with a mortar and pestal to get it super fine. Think it would work in that mill if it was small enough to start with? 🤔 Thanks for the tips! I'm all about gadgets that make the process easier!
Hey Evelyn! Oooh that’s a tough call but I’d say the shredder is most important to replace. Then the electric scissors. You could use a craft or utility knife to slice cardboard for the shredder until you can get the scissors. I tried to keep my people food and worm food appliances separate but…. 😳😬. So I make sure I wash things really well and disinfect if needed. I have run eggshells thru the grain mill. Works great if they’re crushed enough to feed into it. But I don’t want to hold onto the eggshells long enough to get enough together to make using the mill worth it. So the nutribullet works better for timing. In fact I’m baking eggshells right now! Dinner just came out of the oven so in they go 🤩. 🪱🪱
Love those electric scissors! I made worm chow and added some dehydrated pumpkin ( excess pumpkins from neighbors) and my worms are going crazy for it! I used an old nutri bullet to grind it all up. Great tips!

@@RockinWorms I cooked the pumpkin in my instapot just enough to soften it (maybe 15 minutes?), skin on. Let it cool, and puréed it in the nutri bullet (water added to help mix it up) and then dehydrated it. Then I used the nutri bullet to powder it. I also dehydrated some just cut in mini cubes. I bet you could easily grind the dehydrated cubes in your grain mill. That would save a step.

When want to use them, rehydrate cubes either outside or inside a worm bin depending on bin moisture. Can grind them too if desired. Maybe doing it this way gives max flexibility 🤷♂️🪱

@RockinWorms I started last October with about 6k now have 10 breeder bins 2 towers 6 growouts. Roughly 60k-70k worms now. Using grain and greens this weekend when I do the turnover. Excited to see how they like it.

Tell ya what if they come back on the next lot of blood tests next week and say I can’t have wheat anymore I my have to get one of the grain mills or something like it that’s uk available,as will have to start making something like bread but I know sourdough is a nightmare with the starter etc so that I won’t make lol

And scared what may happen… we will have to wait and see. They also testing for celiac, so if that’s true I’ll have too look into other forms of intake
