So happy to see Tarja being able to do her job. I love, most of all, the lows, that mezzo voice wanting to shine again. Bathtub Turunen for the win! A huge shout out to the utter eeriness of the instrumentation, I can feel Mr. Lilja's touch all over it. It feels very Twin Peaks and it is not just here, her whole Ave Maria and From Spirits and Ghosts tour had this vibe too.
Yes! Mezzo bathtub Turunen is amazing! :) This is a lovely rendition with the guitar. Sometimes her deep notes sound off to me in recent years, or perhaps it's the switch from head to chest voice being overdone. I don't know, but her singing in Oceanborn / Wishmaster times was ideal for me. I am no musician though, what do I know. Love her all the same and can't wait to see her. Next year I have to go to her Christmas concert!
@@madameedith I agree. She still struggles with contemporary singing but she is definitely much more dynamic and her chest voice is super. However, I miss her mezzo voice a lot. Tarja in From wishes to eternity can't be rivaled. Never listened to anyone with that timbre anywhere. Not in opera and not in metal. Unfortunately, she does not like the way she sung and wanted to change it and the German conservatory inculcated in her the same idea and her vocals are much more forward in her mouth than before making the voice half the size. Modern opera singers all have this issue. Like they are always singing in falsetto. The first song Luis uploaded here is pristine though. Her voice is amazing when she sings purely classical she definelty is on of the best.
@@LigeiaNoire I completely agree with you. FWTE was what got me seriously hooked on Nightwish, she was amazing there, voice was on point. If she sings Walking in the Air or Sleeping Sun today, she doesn't sing it as beautifully. And I agree, when she sings classical pieces, she is perfect.
@@madameedithHowever, Oceanborn Tarja would never be able to sing Phantom, Stargazers or Passion and the Opera like she does today. I feel solo Tarja is the best of both worlds.
I think she could sing like that anytime she want to, but it wouldn't be wise cause it wasn't the healthiest singing, to say the least. Her vocals weren't much developed back then yet, and her technique was what would be called 'voce ingolata' in opera. She was never a mezzo, she just used to fake a deper tone by lowering her larynx a lot, wich is ok but when overdone (she would sing like this through the entire song, not just on lower notes) it can cause too much tension, compromising your agility and ease to go higher, and at worst it can cause vocal damage as you may end up forcing your voice, Simone Simons used to do that too n people have similar complaints about her technique improvement. Tarja still does deeper tones today, like in this song, but it is done in a more natural n healthier way, her larynx is still lowered on parts but it's done just on point, more relaxed, not exagerated, basically she's not constricting her voice. She talked about that and how her technique improved over the years in one of her IG lives last year, she talked about not being able to place her voice in the front back then and having so much more ease now, and it shows in live performances, cause though she sounded amazing on albums from that era (oceanborn especially), live vocals weren't the best, sounded very unnatural, constrict, and she couldn't handle some of the songs. I think what makes us prefer those vocals is mostly that she would do more operatic vocals, as she slowly started to reduce the operatic sound and incorporate more contemporary singing elements over the years.
To me she sings all over the place, like an old lady's trembling voice. Also, the magic that got me hooked to her is fading cause she seems cold lately in her presentations. Doesnt transmit to me as she used to. But still love her and wait her concerts in Argentina which for what I heard is soon to be announced.
She sounds amazing to me, just different, wich is her current stylistic choice. Go check her most recent classical concerts, cause when she wants operatic vocals she delivers them and her technique is better than ever at this. Noche Escandinava is amazing. So if you have nothing nice to say, why even bother? Just skip it.
It's okay if here she sounds amazing to you, enjoy it. To me sounds as I described: Painful to listen. Especially when there's the same song, in the same channel sang wonderfully exquisite: m.ruclips.net/video/iUiEPxpwvJI/видео.html There she sounds extraordinary, in tempo, with deep dark lows, powerful, like a commander. And the version we have here to me is just weak, trembling in comparison. She should evolve, not the opposite and that is what bugs me.
@@rottenkreature1041 Maybe she gets tired of singing the same song? By that time she only sang this song a few times, and she said in a few interviews that she doesn't like to sing a song the same way over and over, so she always changes the way she sings it. I don't know, but I can tell you it's mostly her stylistic choices. But then again, no reason to be so negative and rude, she is just a human being after all.
@@rottenkreature1041 You're literally saying she sounds like an old lady and painful to listen, I mean, it's ok to say you don't like a performance but you're getting on personal offence level, would you say that to her? You know that Tarja will eventually get older and so will her voice right? I mean she's 44, and like any other muscle the vocal chords gets older and weaker too, your technique can keep growing but your body won't necessarily follow.
Tarja Turunen's voice tone is just pure Beauty!
(And those Low notes were haunting! wow!).
Muito Obrigado Luís!
WOW !!! How I miss this. Lucky Czech Republic ☮💘
Increíble Tarja sigue siendo la mejor

Dude, Im just sharing my thoughts. I haven't insulted anyone. I have praised her more than enough all this years I can criticize her as well.
