I’m obsessed with the color of this fabric. i’m going to need 300 meters of it immediately
www.spotlightstores.com/sold-by-the-metre/plain-112-cm-cotton-linen-fabric/BP80225827-burnt-orange I think this is it?
Yes
Me to i love it 😂👌🏼
I just made the skirt yesterday and it turned out very cute, but as an absolute beginner, I'd like to mention a few things.
Firstly, the fabric. The video says you'll need "approximately two meters of fabric", but two meters wasn't enough, but luckily, my fabric was 150 cm wide (not 140 as in the video), so I could make some adjustments. You will need at least 220 cm if you don't want to make adjustments to the width of the fabric (which results in less fabric for gathering).
Secondly, the waistband. The video says "pin the belt loops onto the waistband at 25cm interval, skipping the central front, as this will be where the tie will form a bow". After I sew the halves of the waistband, I didn't realize that only one half will be the front, not the middle of the newly formed long waistband, so I laid down the belt loops incorrectly (and I think I'm not the only one who could get confused by this). I realized this after it was sewn together, so I had to redo it. I decided that one half will be the front, so I put just two loops on one half and four on the second (it being the back). The interval between the loops are like this: for the front piece (one half) 25 cm from the edge and from the middle seam, for the back piece (second half) 25 cm from the edge and from the middle seam, then 30 cm from the middle two belt loop. It will look like this (for a 280 cm long waist band): 25 cm, belt loop, 90 cm, belt loop, 25 cm, (middle seam), 25 cm, belt loop, 30 cm, belt loop, 30 cm, belt loop, 30 cm, belt loop, 25 cm.
As I said, I am a complete beginner to sewing so maybe most of you will consider these mentions absolutely useless or stupid, but I wanted to put this here for some people who might find it useful.
I will definitely try making this skirt again from a different fabric :)
Thank you!!!! I was about to make the same mistake 😌
@@ohdear5890 I think she used more than 2 meters of fabric.
Thank you saviour!!!♥️🇮🇱
Thank you so much!
How much fabric we need can unexplain
I sewed my first skirt according to this video and it came out very beautiful. Definitely amazing easy skirt for beginners.
Yay so happy to hear that! 🧡
Do you have to do your waist measurement? As the video doesn't specify if you need to.
What size would you say this skirt pattern works with? What if you are a 2x?
@@crystalboganwright899 Hello! I just made the skirt yesterday and it turned out awesome, just need to make some adjustments. I'd say this skirt pattern would fit anyone with waist measurements up to 80 cm? Maybe even more. Otherwise I'd recommend using a piece of fabric that has length of your choice (80 cm from the video could be a little long for shorter people) and width of your waist times two (for the nice gathered fabric effect). So, if your waist is 60 cm, I'd use 120cm wide fabric, if your waist is 90, then 180cm wide fabric and so on. Then just cut a rubber band the same length of your waist (maybe a little less, up to you) and it'll fit perfectly. I used the exact measurements from the video, which is 140 to 80 cm, since my waist is 70 cm, and there's so much gathered fabric it feels a little heavy, but I haven't finished the belt yet so we'll see. I hope I helped at least a little bit. :)
I've just finished mine and it has turned out beautiful!
Easy for beginners - trust me, it was the first piece I've ever sew.
Thank you for the tutorial! 😊
im afraid that the length of the skirt is too short ..im hijabi so could you please tell me your high and how did it fit?
Thank you so much for explaining the measurements in both centimeters and inches it helps me so much! I've already made a jumpsuit from your tutorial on it :) now I'm gonna make this skirt and the crop top you made too! Thanks for making such fantastic content!
You’re welcome! Thank you for your lovely comment 😊
I’d love a pocket version! Thanks for this video!
Yes pockets would be amazing 😍
I think it would be fairly simple to add some simple square pockets as you are constructing he skirt but before you add the waist band
That was my fist thought at the end. Where are the pockets? 😆
I believe there is now a video about the pockets, it may have even been this skirt where she did an tutorial on
I was thinking the same thing!
Perhaps the simplest, but cutest, skirt pattern I've ever seen. I plan to make a collection with plain and patterned fabrics!
Hi Janelle, this is such a pretty skirt. I’m loving these sewing videos. Could I request a video where you talk about your most used and favourite sewing tools?
Thanks for your lovely comment, and suggestion! I think that’s a great video idea! 🧡
Thanks for the tutorial! It was quite easy to follow even for a total beginner like me ( this was my very first sewing Project). I used linen fabric and used french seams. I also included an in seam pocket on one side. When I first made it, it was too full for my liking so I took it in and in the end only did about 1.75x my waist circumfence. I also used understitching to make the waistband fold more nicely with the seam towards the inside (instead of topstitching). The belt I made like you did with the belt loops (fold to the middle, then fold again) to give it more stability, and also because I'm too lazy to turn that entire belt inside out. In the end I still had a little bit of fabric left and made some matching shorts to wear underneath (for cycling and sitting down without worrying about people looking up my skirt). I love it!
That skirt is adorable!
Thank you! I’m so happy with it 😍
This looks really lovely and achievable! Can‘t wait until it is safe for me to go thrifting again to find some sustainable fabric. Thanks for sharing! 🌸
I know! I miss the thrift shops so much!
Honestly these videos are such a happy escape from me. Format is great. It's clear. No extraneous content. Really great job!
Thanks so much 🧡
I just finished making this skirt and it’s adorable!! Thank you so much for the amazing pattern/tutorial and please make more soon!
Love how your videos are aesthetically pleasing but straight forward 💕
Thank you! That’s great to hear 😊🧡
What a great tutorial! I made different types of skirts but this one is perfect! I love the elastic waistband (and the skirt being able to fit me even after a lunch haha) and the bow 😍 such a nice video, thank you!
Thanks for your lovely comment! You’re welcome 😊💕
In love with this skirt. And the orange colour 🥰 would be amazing with cute boxy cargo pockets on the outside
This is such a beautiful skirt. Very simple and well made. Gorgeous
Thank you so much! 🧡
I can't help it but click the like button every time your video pops up... you're doing a great job, Janelle! I'm so gonna try this. Thank you very much! Cheers from Malaysia!
Aww thank you so much!! That means a lot 😄🧡
I'm just learning how to sew. I've made a lot of masks so far. I think I want to make this now! It'll be the challenge I need!
Yay good for you, sewing is the best! Have fun making it 😊🧡
I just made this skirt (I didn’t have enough fabric so I had to do a few things different) and I am soooo happy how it turned out! It was my first project!
Thank you for the easy explanation ❤️ I will recreate more of your stuff ❤️
Love this! I've been hoping to find a skirt tutorial to finally try my first sewing project and this is perfect! I'm going to try adding pockets too ❤
Pockets will be a great addition! Have fun making it 😍
I like fabric colours and patterns a lot! I wish there were more clothing shops selling these types of clothing. Great video, enjoyed it!
So glad you liked it! 🧡
Will definitely give this skirt a go, it’s super cute. 😍
Thanks so much! Have fun making one for yourself 🧡
All your videos are amazing... I am a beginner so I started with your "small" crafts, pouches etc and that skirt will be my first big craft. You are so detailed in your video and I hope to make it right. Thumbs up from Greece.
Omg as SOON as I have access to some nice fabric I'm going to make this one!! So good!
Thank you! Have fun making it 🧡
That skirt is just adorable. Love it!!
Thank you for making such an easy skirt tutorial to follow! I love all of your sewing projects! ♡
Thank you so much! 🧡
Your sewing videos are always so inspirational!
Ahh thanks so much! That’s really nice to hear 😊🧡
This tutorial is so helpful!! Your pacing is really nice and having the screenshot with the dimensions is so useful
Yay that’s great to hear! Glad you found it helpful 😄
I am so in love with this skirt. Wrote down how to make this so I can go fabric shopping when stores open at the end of January in Austria.
Love it, I got a very similar one in black from H&M and was a little bit expensive but I love it, I'm gonna try to replicate it with this tutorial, thank you!
Have fun making your own! 😊
Awesome video tutorial. I love the look of this skirt and the fact you didn’t use a pattern is a major plus... because I can make it now!! 💕🌺💕
Yay have fun making your own 🧡😄
Love this tutorial! I really want to try this one when I have the right fabric. I am thinking about making a floorlength one and adding some side-splits to it.
That sounds amazing! 😍
This is the best gathered skirt I've seen so far! I can't wait to make one.
Thanks so much! 😊🧡
Am soooooo in love with it ❤❤❤❤❤❤ am watching this video and wishing if only you were close to made me one of this skirt . It looks so hard for someone who does not know anything about how to quilt
This skirt looks so cute!! You explained the prozess very well but I think it would help me alot if you could show the whole peace of fabric while showing where to saw ❤❤
When you wake up and decide you want to make a beautiful skirt today and then there's this video!!! LOVE IT! Sending lots of love from Germany :)
Haha yay! That’s amazing! Have fun making it 🧡
You're my favourite sewing channel ♥️ I think I'll try this one. Could you do paperbag/slouchy trousers as well?
Thanks so much! That means a lot 🧡
I love how professional but easy this looks! Definitely keeping an eye out for a suitable fabric.
You make this seem so easy. In the next few days I'll watch this again but write the method in meticulous detail. I've been sewing simple styles since I was in high school. The only sewing tuition I've had was 1 term of high school home ec. RUclips is now my teacher. I'm a little on the tall-ish side, 181cm, so I'm always adding several inches in skirt, leg, arm and body length.
This is cute! The style, the color, the fit!
Love this skirt. Looks simple to follow but also really well finished. Thanks for sharing x
The skirt looks lovely! I’m definitely going to make my younger sister one! ❤️❤️❤️
Have fun making it! 🧡
Your the only youtuber that has sewing tutorials that I understand
Thank you so much! That’s such great feedback 🧡
G'day Janelle! I made this skirt today, along with the bow. Can't wait to wear it tomorrow. I added lace trim to my hem. Thank you for taking the time to make this tutorial.
Aw yay! The lace hem sounds amazing 😍 I’m So glad you loved the tutorial x
Huge thanks for every tutorial, Janelle ❤️ love your channel!
Here in Brazil I'm loving your videos! It is a more beautiful outfit than the other and you make the appointments available! Amazing
Thank you 🧡
It looks really nice! I would add pockets to make it even better, or is there a reason you didn't? Also, I really like these instruction type videos, but it would be fun to hear your thoughts as to why this skirt is perfect in your eyes, and maybe what choises you made an why. Also I would looove to see a vlog style semi instructive video on how you go about drafting patterns.
Beautiful skirt Janelle. I'll have to add this to my long list of things to make
I will make it with the charcoal fabric you presented in your autumn sewing plans and that I ordered :) I already made a similar gathered mini skirt with it and it turned out great. But what I really need now is something longer, so thanks for the timely tutorial!
Its 1m10 wide though, do you think it would work fine still?
Like always, this tutorial is great!!! 👍🏼 I love everything you make!!! I wish i can be as good as you at sewing one day. Thanks for sharing with us ❤️❤️❤️
Thanks so much! That means a lot 😄🧡
I just wanted to add a comment here, if you are very thin, I wouldn't make this skirt the width of two full pieces of fabric because the gathers are wayyyy too bulky. I would recommend removing some amount to make it more flattering.
Your videos are always such a joy.
i instantly subscribed for the simplified tutorial and the adorable girl
you read my mind got fabric coming to pretty much make this xxx
Yay that’s great to hear! 💕
I'm going to adapt this for my niece! So cute and well thought through! Xx
That’s a lovely idea 😊
Hi Janelle ! Thank you so much for this video, I made this skirt today ! I have been sewing on and on for months but this is the first piece of me-made clothing that I can wear outside without shame !! I also found some 2nd-hand fabric that looks quite like yours, it looks perfect ! I will maybe fix it with some pockets. I have some leftover fabric so I will make some scrunchies using your tutorial as well, and a ribbon for my straw hat :)
Yay that’s so exciting!! So glad you love your skirt! 🧡
I can totally relate to ‘wearing outside without shame’. Look forward to getting good enough to do the same 😅
Thanks for your tutorial! The pattern is gorgeous!! Definitely will try this!!!
Yay have fun making it for yourself! 😊
Such a beautiful skirt. I love the color. You look fabulous in it.
Thank you! 🧡
I am going to try this!!! I am a total beginner so might look really bad but if I make it I am going to wear it for sure 😂
Love your DIY videos! Have made the dungaree dress already fits perfectly. Would love a tutorial on a wrap dress🙂
That’s great to hear! I’m planning on a wrap dress tutorial soon 😊
This is literally my favourite style of skirt but I can never find any with the fabric I want, can't wait to start making my own now
Cutest waistband award 🏆
🧡🧡🧡
So making this when I can get fabric, I think a ditsy floral would be so cute!
That sounds adorable! 😍
Adorable skirt and that color is beautiful.
Also I love all of your creations! Amazing!!!
super cute.Definitely gonna make one for my self...very clear instruction.Thank you so much for sharing this
Hi, thanks for your great skirt video! Quick question - I'm confused about how you space out the belt loops (only 6 of them) across what I think is 280cm (width of fabric 140x2) using 25cm spacing? All six are 'used up' within just 150cm and the remaining 130cm then has no loops? Thanks so much :-)
I had the same issue! I think maybe her fabric is narrower than 140cm..
I was also confused on this part. If you follow the 10 inch distance she uses you will end up with a good gap with out a belt loop. But that's totally okay as this is meant to be the front part where you will be tying your belt in the front. I just finished mine and it looks about right lol Hope this helps! 🤗❤
I need to go to Joanne‘s Fabrics and buy some fabric asap to make this! It’s so cute
Thanks for inspiration. This skirt is beautiful. Your channel is fantastic. 💗
Thank you! That means a lot 🧡
@@RoseryApparel 😍👍
I hope you make 50K soon! Cute skirt!
I looove this! I just made one and it came out pretty damn well! I would say tho as a thicc girl, im a size 18/20 i miiiiiight try this again and add a third panel for the same full full effect your skirt has!
Yay that’s great to hear! 😄🧡
How much fabric did you use??? Im the same size.
Ahh!! I've been waiting for this video, and I love it! I can't wait to make it with fabric I bought recently! :D
Yay glad you’re excited! Have fun making it! 🧡
i wore it with a white shirt and everyone gave me many positive comments about it
thankssss
Looks amazing, and that colour goes with everything😍
Gathered skirt is the only piece of clothe I can sew. I have no patience when it comes to sewing
Wow! So cute and easy! I'm totally going to do this! I'm gonna make it shorter though. I don't have that many yards of fabric.
Shorter would be so cute too!
EXACTLY WHAT I'VE BEEN LOOKING FOR, THANK YOU
Turned out absolutely adorable! Thanks for the tutorial, Janelle!
Thank you! I’m so happy with it 😍
Hi janelle, I love this video and found it fun to follow along. If you could please make a video about different fabrics and what you recommend each fabric be used for.. Thank you :)
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed it 😄
But...pockets?! Other than that it's perfect 😍 I love the way you put the belt loops on, I'd never thought of doing it like that before.
Yes pockets would be amazing! I wanted to keep this tutorial as simple as possible, but definitely add pockets if you like 😊
@@RoseryApparel It's the perfect combination of a simple to make pattern, but still not a boring looking skirt. It's very pretty :)
Thank you!! Just what I needed. 💖 love everything you do.
Thanks so much! 🧡
This is amazing! Will you consider making a pair of pants and shorts in this style? Thank you!
This skirt is so beautiful! I really want to try it out. Do you think it would be a little bit more flowing with a lighter fabric like viscose oder tencel?
Thank you for this tutorial! Your videos are always so inspiring!
Yes it would be more flowy with those types of fabric! I’ve used rayon before to make this skirt and it turned out beautiful 😊
Very nice skirt, and I think that to make it absolutely perfect I would try to add pockets!
I just subscribed ! im glad i found your channel , cant wait to see more videos like this
Yay! Thanks so much for following along! 😊🧡
Can you tell me fabric name and measurement........ And skirt is beautiful 😍👌... Keep it up 👍
Why do you sew so fine🥺🥰🥰 It's so beautiful
love this! the colour especially - seems like it'd be perfect for Fall. Hopefully here in the northern hemisphere we will be able to go out by then and i can give this a go! :D
Could you do a video on how to make a pinafore? (preferably with deep pockets ☺️) thanks !!
I share how to make a pinafore in this video here ruclips.net/video/rtwn8e3jMGE/видео.html Hopefully it’s like what you’re after! 😊
@@RoseryApparel thank you so much :)
I think I would like to try this with some linen fabric I have - thank you!
Yes!! Linen would be amazing! 😍
What size width is the elastic you used - apologizes if you said it in the video
I'm defenitely going to make this!!
Hi Janelle, I wanted to make this skirt for the autumn season and I was wondering when you say the width of your fabric, is this the width of my waist measurement? Love all your tutorials you're so good to share what you know x
Hi there! You will want the width of your fabric to be a bit wider than the width of your waist. Basically the more fabric, the more gathers 😊
I'm going to make this today!
I just love this skirt tutorial I am gonna give try to this one. And love the way you mentioned all details very well so that any one call follow you easily and love the color selection as well ❤️😊👍 btw I am new subscriber of your channel and lots of love from India❤️
Thank you so much! And thanks for following along 🧡
Perfect skirt for my inverted triangle body shape!
Cannot wait to make this! This was so timely for me :) Where do you get your fabric???
This one was from Spotlight 😊 Have fun making it!
Wow, you are so talented!!!
Thank you! 😄🧡
@@RoseryApparel no problem!
I already made this skirt three times and that’s not the final number. It’s beautiful
I love this skirt. Just wondering if you ever make a Lolita style skirt or dress, my daughter is really into the Japanese style and I would love to learn to make her a dress or skirt
