This prophecy in Daniel is one of the most difficult passages to interpret. Every verse has several grammatical and interpretive ambiguities. Further, there are three main interpretive approaches to the passage: Antiochene views, which see the fulfillment of the prophecy as relating to Antiochus Epiphanes and the Maccabean revolt; Messianic views, which see the fulfillment in Christ's first coming; and Dispensational views, which see the fulfillment relating to a supposed end-time Antichrist. The literary structure and ultimate fulfillment of the six purposes of the prophecy stated in Dan 9:24, however, point to Christ.
