You are a extremely smart man and a great teacher too. I have always marveled mechanical engineering and the thought that goes into it. Hopefully i can work for you one day if i play my cards right.
Since then I’ve blown my head gasket and put in a sleeved block with forged internals. I believe the “coolant” grooves between the cylinders caused a hot spot and showed evidence of where the head gasket failed. Dan Benson welded those channels on my new sleeved block and redecked the mating surface. I got my wife the 2021 Accord 2.0T touring.
He mentioned that the K20C had some sort of separator. Do we have anymore info on if the K20C's have air / oil separators? I am concerned about carbon build up in my future car.
Did you guys happen to weigh the K20C1 without the transmission? There are some people who are flying aircraft that are powered by the L15 engine, so I'm wondering how well the K20C1 would work in that application.
I've noticed a lot of car manufacturers starting to go with kind of a modular design approach when building cars. They can be taken apart in sections it's neat. Love the channel hoping for an ek k swap how to. Man some of the newer hondas look hard to work on space wise. My 08 si sedan is not the funnest car to work on especially the back of valve cover and engine, makes my 97 hatch seem like a cake walk.
That turbo is really integrated. What's your thought on incorporating a bigger turbo? Maybe a remote mount for a sequential setup? Twin charging with a belt driven forced induction?
rekik66 GReddy has an aftermarket turbo bolted to one of their SEMA cars that was located in the back side of the engine. They’re still working on it last I read.
K20c1 in a 1st gen CRV would be sick and would fit perfect since it’s a taller engine with the fuel pump. Maybe you can take off the valve cover off the c1 and show us the valve train?
Waffeey thanks man I appreciate the sub! I’ll forever be a b-series guy but the k20c is very unique for the North American market, so I’m stoked to see what people do with them :)
3:00 when transmission oil temperature is stable the transmission loses will be lower too, I think that is why Honda did it. I raced for years with the Y and S serie transmissions and never had any problems with the overheating.
Do you think a mount kit is needed to put the K20C into my 11th Gen Si to replace the L15CA I currently have? I would think since the FL5 came with the K20C that it should bolt right in, but I may be wrong. Any info is appreciated. Great work as always.
is there any issues far as the individual piston fuel trim when swapping. How much harness flip flop is there involved to make it run. I plan to drop a K20C in my ES2 value pack. I also want to keep it auto so my wife can drive it
Hi there mate, any idea where i can find the full spec of this engine? I'm trying to find out what other transmissions will fit onto this and the sizings because I'm looking to fit one into a classic mini, but struggling to find the information at the moment.
It is much bigger than the other K-series engines. The transmission is exclusive to the K20C turbo engine. Honda makes a CVT and 10-speed auto that will bolt up.
The thing about that high pressure fuel pump is the engine oil will be to rich with gas witch cleans the oil faster! Good to help keep temperatures down! Bad for the bottom end. You dont want to much fuel cleaning the oil. Thats just asking for the pistons and bottom end to blow out eventually! Especially when performing at high rpm's.
I wonder if all that water cooling is to much for the radiator, and considering the turbo bolts directly to the head, there's no heat dissipation between the exhaust ports and the turbine housing, the K20c's exhaust heat is absorbed through the head. Strange design.
Lance Johnson Very true i wonder if that would end up being the more limited factor when tuning these new engines, bigger radiator and fans is a simple fix at least.
No, it is different with much lower production on those parts. Honda buys L15 components in the millions and type R components in the 10s of thousands.
This is cool. What i'm interested in is whether or not the old K20/24s will swap into the new 8 speed dual clutch trannys, and if the new K24W7s are able to be swapped with the old 6 speed manuals (or maybe this 6 speed from the new CTR?). I'm also curious if any of the old K20/24 aftermarket parts can be used in the new K24W7. You think this is possible?
The pistons are different. The cranks have the same part number. both are forged. both use the same rods. The fuel systems are completely different. The turbos are different.
I know they got better, but they seem to have gotten bland for my taste. It would be cool to see some variation between the civic and the accord, having different engine options for each. It seems like the different engines are what differentiate the cars in my opinion. Also, it would be fun to have a bigger engine option like a 2.2 or 2.4 liter because even though the turbo already gives it more grunt than a bigger engine, I would just like that as a higher performance option. Edit: to clarify, I was trying to say they should make a larger displacement engine different from the K series, not exactly bring back the F series. It would be cool to see them engineer a SOHC engine like the F series that could compete with DOHC engines though.
Question I’m looking for a k20c1 cylinder head is there any site you know of that only sell the head I have a k20c2 I want tune but rather have the k20c1 head
So if I got this motor, upgraded the rods, pistons, sent crank off to get shaved, send head to get ported not polished, valve job, and put super charger on it, is have a direct turbo super charged engine.....

Million dollar question is can a older k series head bolt up to the new k20c engine block ???

I haven't looked. Good question. I need to buy a K20C head gasket and compare.
I'm guessing no way. (Brian)

Just use the FL5 mounts. Unless you are using the Accord K20C4. Then you need some more parts too.

Gotta love that both those engines have almost the same number of parts but Honda charges another 2k for the 2.0. Pure profit.

How easily could this and the L15b7 be wired up to a 13-16 crz?
Tried finding this motor with hopes of swapping it into a 2015 civic si but there are literally no k20c for sale
honda dealers are selling it
Could you also throw it in a ef crx?
I hope this motor can go in the 8th Gen accord so I can take out my v6
It should fit easily. I have an 8th gen accord and it has more room than the 2012 Civic and it will fit that car.
I wish they continued the use of larger engines in the Accord, like the f series; it seems like the Accord became a civic in disguise
Why? The F series is old and even less powerful than the K series and J series which are bested in performance by the current Accord engines.
