Man, I remember this opening when I was in High School. My friends and I were always there, it was great. It had a lot of Mom and Pop shops too. Animagination was a really cool hobby shop. :)

living around Alton there isn't very many places to go. Jamestown and St. Clair Square were the closest Big Mall options around the early 2000s, and both of them were hitting a rough patch around then (St. Clair has recovered well enough and Jamestown caught on fire twice this year and finally approved for the wrecking ball)... The Mills was basically THE place to go. Edwardsville/Glen Carbon area is building up well enough that a big long-drive shopping trip out of the county isn't as frequent anymore tho.
Thanks for your great comment and taking the time! It is very sad that indoor malls have declined so heavily. The only one for you to go to living in Alton, would be West County Mall, but that is about 30-35 minutes farther away than Jamestown Mall was. Not sure why the Mills tenure was so short, but I do recall one poor decision was that they started a curfew to keep younger kids from going to the mall alone at nights. I think this sped up the decline, as they alienated a pretty big base that was supporting the mall.. Just my guess anyway, it likely would have declined anyway. If you are in North County, the nearest place to go see a movie is now in St. Charles.. so crazy, we had tons of movie places in North County years ago. Thanks again!
Greed and the internet. Killed all my favorite hangout malls. I miss them days. Especially the Mall Theaters. I did a bunch of finger banging in them. Good Times giggity
