Ben... I love your channel and follow you on all your travels. this question is totally off-topic for this video. ... but here goes... Im on the NCL Pride of America and found the customer service a bit more laid back than other ships..also something we like was an ice bucket in our room. Have you noticed if other ships have ice available....seems like a small thing but we like ice for our water and other drinks in the room... Sorry, I know it sounds like a little issue but it's important to us. We are older and spend a lot of time in our room and on the balcony. Thanks ahead of time.... Please continue to have a great time traveling.

We were in London 2 yrs. ago before a UK cruise. My BIL is not a fish eater and I told him that when it is very fresh fish it tastes better. We went to the Shakespeare pub by the Victoria Bus Terminal. We ordered the fish & chips & it was some of the best I have eaten. Even he, ate it all and said if we could get fresh fish like this at home in Canada, it might change his mind.

In another video you mentioned The Hung Drawn & Quartered. Have you been there before. Also looking for an authentic pub.

Just a few days after seeing your rant about “we don’t need to see you eat”, we get to see your rating on proper Fish & Chips! 😂 I love good Fish & Chips, but have not had any in years. I think they are way too commercial and quick heated these days. I can’t remember when I haven’t been disappointed - especially when ordering them in the US. But I liked your take - you will have to try Poppies again (just don’t go too late next time) and show us the “best” ones near your home (just don’t disclose the location!). Can’t wait to see your future vlogs - but for now I am off for some Fish & Chips (cod, of course!).

Another great video Ben! I love battered, fried fish although we tend to serve them with fries on this side of the ocean, cod is a pretty common fish here too. My last trip to London I managed to find a nice pub and had what I thought was a pretty good fish & chips along with a tasty pint. I really prefer the chips to the american style fries. Mine came with something I think were mushy peas? Wasn't so much a fan of those.

LOL I just got home from work as we are preparing to get some of the effects of hurricane Milton here in the Fort Lauderdale area and now I want fish and chips. Was in London early September. Went to Hobsons near Charing Cross station. Excellent chip. Excellent fish. And yes I had a 10min or so wait. But was worth it. Try that one

I totally agree. Your fried foods have to be hot and fresh and still sizzling from the oil! I'll wait! This American loves fish and chips, especially at a brewery. There's a local place that does their fish (a lake fish, we're far from the ocean in the Midwest) in a tempura batter and it's so light and crispy. Not authentic, but delicious.

Okay, I always thought that the tartar sauce was for the fish all my life. I was in London in the 80s I stayed at the Tower Thistle Hotel. I was told to cross the bridge and go to the left and I got fantastic fish and chips from a tiny takeaway shop. Unfortunately I don’t remember the name. I just remember one day they ran out of cod and yelled,”No Cod today only Rock” and I took it. But I still have no idea what rock is.
Rock used to be known as Rock Salmon, however it certainly isn't related to salmon and indeed the salmon industry managed to force the name to be shortened to Rock. Actually it isn't a fish, but a type of shark! As a Londoner, 'rock salmon and chips' was the fish and chips of choice and even now is rarely found outside of London. It remains my fish of choice when wanting fish and chips in London. It has a single gelatinous bone. The true accompaniment to f&c is malt vinegar and salt, plus a fair portion of proper mushy peas! The substitution of lemon and tartare sauce is a way to upmarket and upsell the humble fish and chips.

Sussex Fish Bar on London St. near Paddington...I come here every year when I'm in London. Great fish n chips and I also had one of the best hamburgers I've ever eaten there. It's a small unpretentious place but it's really good food. Of course everyones taste is different but this place is the best I've had. I come from a fishing port so I definitely know good fish when I see it.🤤
I’m late commenting on this video, I did watch it a couple days ago during the hurricane but so much has been going on but the good thing is we’re pretty safe here in Orlando and the Magic kingdom is OK 🏰 😂 But it’s interesting that the fish and chips keep their skin on. I would’ve never known that if I didn’t watch your video I just always assumed it was kind of like Captain D’s here in America. I’m sure there’s a lot of British people right now that are horrified that I just said that. But good heads up. And I agree with you the chips definitely have to be soft on the middle and crunchy on the outside. That’s how I like my french fries too. I think you should try to compare the curry shops next time. It still blows my mind that people consider that the national dish. But now that I know that when I see different vlogs or TV shows, they do eat a lot of curry takeaways. Which I don’t blame on my love all Currys, I like Thai curry, Japanese curry, and Indian curry. ❤ 🍛

Oh dear. Not a good review. The only crisp chips you will get from a traditional fish and chip shop are the tiny overcooked pieces/scraps/shrapnel that some people like. Chips should be judged by taste/quality of potatoes/quality of cooking oil. Tartar sauce is usually added to the fish, not the chips. Presentation - who cares about presentation? You eat your fish and chips with your eyes first and then with your mouth. It does not matter a jot if they come in greaseproof paper with extra paper sheets around, or if they come in a box. What does matter is that the fish batter should not be covered by the chips as they will tend to soften the batter. If you want good, albeit expensive, fish and chips then go to the highly rated emporiums in Ladbrooke Grove or Muswell Hill, and I am sure there are many other good chip shops around as well. Some of the best I ever had came from a shop in Brabazon St in the east, London they were cheap and fantastic.

@@jonathanpage7710 Poppie’s actually had haddock but no cod! I was tempted to try it but I prefer cod and chips together 😁 the skin is the best part! It adds an extra crunch. I’m guessing you like curry sauce or gravy on your chips being from the north 😂 both are a big no for me!
@@TravelWithBen121 lol actually I've never had gravy on chips. Not that usual really but it is offered of course. Curry sauce is ok. Usually I just have salt n vinegar. Simples!

Oh dear. Not a good review. The only crisp chips you will get from a traditional fish and chip shop are the tiny overcooked pieces/scraps/shrapnel that some people like. Chips should be judged by taste/quality of potatoes/quality of cooking oil. Tartar sauce is usually added to the fish, not the chips. Presentation - who cares about presentation? You eat your fish and chips with your eyes first and then with your mouth. It does not matter a jot if they come in greaseproof paper with extra paper sheets around, or if they come in a box. What does matter is that the fish batter should not be covered by the chips as they will tend to soften the batter. If you want good, albeit expensive, fish and chips then go to the highly rated emporiums in Ladbrooke Grove or Muswell Hill, and I am sure there are many other good chip shops around as well. Some of the best I ever had came from a shop in Brabazon St in the east, London they were cheap and fantastic.
