- In our first video, we show you how easy it is for a pilot with about 450 hours of total time and no turbine experience to transition into this 2018 Cessna Caravan with Garmin G1000. We fly into the Long Beach (KLGB) practice area to do some steep turns and stalls and then come back to Long Beach for a landing.
Please don't forget to leave a thumbs up, share the video with your friends and most importantly SUBSCRIBE. Thank you!

Can’t get enough of the standard Caravan. My dream airplane!
I’m lucky to have got to fly the Caravan probably more than any other plane I have flown. Still jump at the chance! Does so many things well, so easy to fly and pretty cheap to operate. Thanks for watching!
He couldn’t stall it, wow. That’s why I love Cessnas man
Hard to stall it. If he put the flaps up you will see a stall 😆
Great channel. Love the different perspective of pilots/owners and their stories.
You forgot the other name for the caravan. A 172 heavy. Lol
Now That Was Funny,,,
Keep em coming rich I watch every one you put up.john from San Diego.
Great video and information. Thanks for taking the time to make it. Thanks Rich.
Thank you for watching!
The two hardest things when transitioning into a Caravan: Can't find the second engine on the start or the gear handle!
As a missionary pilot here in the Philippines, this is my dream airplane. Wow, love this.
Thank you for watching! Thank you for your work!
His presentation made me subscribe... Good job 👏👍
WOW! What a great video! And the video is about one of my all time favorite aircraft!!! Please make more videos! You have a gift and you should share it more often!
Thank you for the message and compliment. Caravan is one of my favorites too. No coincidence it was my first video!
great video! the Caravan is just the best!
The Pink Pilot Love the Caravans!! Thanks for watching!
Enjoyed the Video Rich! Thank You!
Thanks for the comments Gary - appreciate the feedback!
This is probably one of my favorite turbo props. Beside the epic 1000lt. Flying this around fsx is so much fun although I wish we had the 675 version as well
Nice video!
Great video 👌🏼
Sweet airplane! Nice video thank you.
Thank you for watching!
hey rich, gosh dang you are so profresional and easy to understand,i really enjoy flying in your vids and one of these days im coming up to LB to say hi. john from sandiego.
Fantastic video!!!!!
Thank you.
Thank you Rich!
Thank you!
Great Video. Thanks for sharing
Thank you for watching.
Great video Rich. Professional all the way. I like how you let the pilot speak without interruption, you listen then speak. Your lead in was top notch. Hey Rich, Think I could fly the 208 with you? Just kidding.
Cheers
Sure thing. Always up for Caravan rides. Look me up next time your in Long Beach!
awesome channel - I hope you keep posting videos for years to come - very educational and entertaining - thank you
Thank you!
great video. You're a great instructor Rich.
Thank you!
Great info and great production job!
Jay-Alan Miller Thank you for watching!
@@FlyingwithRich sorry to ask, can I know what is the best price of a used one.
Long Shot Prices for used Caravans vary dramatically depending on year/times/equipment. Tough to find a decent Caravan for under $1M.
You make really good videos! Thanks. This plane seems like a big beast of a plane, and expensive to operate with the turbo prop... Might be fairly basic to fly, but it's so big. You'd really be needing to be hauling cargo with this baby. You'd also need a unique mission profile for this. And, the plane is nearly $2 Million bucks wow. It's a really, really different machine for very certain people. For me, as a personal hauler, a 206H would be the best. At a third of the price and much lower maintenance costs. Thanks again! Cool plane. I liked the student pilot aspect you added here too. Very cool production!
Thanks for watching. I agree with your comments - unless you have a real specific use Caravan, it’s a lot of airplane. T206 is a great airplane - flown them a lot.
Caravan of courage
Thanks for posting, I have been looking for a video of the baby caravan. My dream plane. Regards
Thanks for watching! Such a great airplane!
Danggggg, that’s an awesome bird. Do you guys sell older models? Or used ones? This is my dream bird for mission Aviation.
Thank you for sharing!!! I have bought a Cessna Caravan EX this Christsmas (well, for FSX) i I really loved seen it in the real thing. Start up engine is quit the same and G1000 avionics also. The only strange thing in my EX is that PFD, distance is measured in Statute Miles (SM) in the center upper tape. However, DMEs and Navigational Displays has distances measured in NM (Nautic Miles) as usual... I liked a lot the seashore panoramic views. Great video!!!
Thanks for message! EX is great airplane. Not sure on the statute vs nautical miles on your display - I’ve never seen that before.

What's the title of the song you used ?
An Aircraft over my house, unusual sound, what's that? Checking Flightradar24, oh Cessna 208. Hmm not very common here near Frankfurt. Searching youtube and found your Video. Very nice, good work as an instructor and also as a youtuber. Enjoyed it, thank you. Is Kai a german guy? Wish everybody many happy landings. 👍🏻😁
Thanks for the message. Yes Kai is German. Glad you like the video!
Ha I knew it! His accent was so german 😛
I'll take the Mustang thank you!
You need a guy for the right seat in the mustang I got you mojo👌
Nice.mojogrip..i am big fan.
Affordability of a Citation Mustang ?
I remember making hours on the Grand Caravan in Belize. Great times.
Lovely plane. I think the most difficult part of the Caravan... Is the startup. Hehe
You are right about the start up! Once you get it started - it’s a piece of cake. Thanks for watching.
TheTimeTraveler2025 Yeah...no, it’s not.
I think rich is one of the best pilots in the industry I really want to fly with him and learn to fly the friendly skies....
I would love to come out and go out with you in the Caravan and see how the transition would be coming out of a 206
Easy transition from the 206. If you come to Southern CA, stop by! Thanks for watching.
Easiest airplane ever to fly. Simple power management compared to a turbocharged piston anything!! No bad habits and with theTKS system, icing issues have been mostly mitigated.
Agree - it’s been refined very well over the years. Thank you for watching!
Hey Rich, nice video! I would love fly that 208 as a commercial pilot 😍 how much is a transition to this aircraft?
A lot depends on your experience. If you have turboprop time it’s a quick transition. $2000- $5000.
The engines are different between the 208 and 208B as well. The 208 has a PT6A-114 (675hp) and the 208B has a PT6A-140 (867hp).
That’s correct but prior to MY 2013 the 208Bs all have the -114 engines and were 675HP. -140 with 867 HP came out in late ‘12 with the EX upgrade.
Twin Otter vs skycarrgo vs Caravan? Wish want is better?
Love them all!
Nice channel are you making any more videos?
Thanks. Yes I am - Baron, Phenom 300 and Waco videos coming soon!
Can you learn to fly a caravan right out of flight school? I’m at 206hrs and have my CPL test coming up in a few weeks. I’ll be at around 210hrs out of flight school and was wondering if there’s any way to transition from a 152 to this beauty!
You can transition into a Caravan - based on FAA classification it’s a single engine land aircraft. The limiting factor is being insured to fly it. I would estimate an insurance company would want you to have 50 hours in the airplane and a formal training course prior to solo (assuming IFR and Commercial) and maybe additional requirements prior to carrying pax.
@@FlyingwithRich Awesome! Thx so much for answering. I got into aviation a little later in life (I’m 38) but I just can’t see myself doing anything else so I’m looking forward to see what’s next!
Great vids by the way and thanx again for the reply
Thank you!
RICH... who is the manufacturer of your hangar doors? Do you like the product? Does it seal well? We have rattle snakes, mice and rats. Thanks for your input Rich. If it deals in the corners I may prefer it over metal doors.
Unfortunately, weak seal and gaps on corners on this system which I wouldn’t recommend if you need a really good seal. Works “ok” for SoCal weather, but definitely not a good seal.
Flying with Rich thank you very much for the reply. Helpful!
This is a Para-Port Door. Rich these are the tightest sealing doors on the market. It sounds like you have missing or damaged weather stripping. Please contact me at DKuzma@paraportdoor.com and we can get this addressed. Thank you,
Thanks for the message. Yeah - I agree. The door is missing seals and probably needs some good maintenance. Vertical edges need some work too. I’ll drop you an e-mail. Thanks again for the message.
0:07 what size is that Hanger??
Approx 15000 sq ft with office space.
When they upped the power on the 208B they should’ve upped the 208 to 750shp. Speaking of turbine I have friend that had a TBM 700 and also has a 8 year old son at the time he was one of those kids that got into everything. Well he wanted to be like Dad and get plane ready so the plane was pulled out of the hanger and lucky he always chocked the wheels if he wasn’t getting in the plane right away well they were in the back of the hanger and they hear the engine spooling up they run to get in plane and the little sh!t had already went through complete start sequence exactly right no hot start. But there are so many ways it could’ve went bad.
I would love a job on this plane in the Florida area.
Me too! Thanks for watching.
You forgot “Baby Van”
The only way I’ll ever get a chance to fly this Caravan is in xplane11! 🤷🏻♂️🤘🔥
Thanks for watching!
i hope they make cessna caravan with Retractable Gear, like centurion or silver eagle
Thanks for watching!
Can people own a Grand Caravan like a 172
Sure- lots of people own them for personal/business travel.
I’ll take one, just one will do. Where do I buy a raffle ticket?
Is there a chance to hire a familiarization flight in a caravan ?. I am a PPL Cessna 182…
We can arrange it - you can e-mail us for details.
@@FlyingwithRich thanks. What is your email ?
flyingwithrich@gmail.com
I wish we had the variants in fs2020 to remove that stupid under belly thing which is in the 208B it looks cooler and more nimble
Agree! Thanks foe watching!
If you need a caravan pilot let me know
What is fox
.
I think we were referring to taxiway foxtrot.
It needs a TPE-331 on it
Flown lots of Caravans but never one with that engine. You prefer it?
@@FlyingwithRich more horsepower and less fuel burn for same speed, cheaper overhauls. www.texasturbines.com/supervan-900/ i worked on the certification of this.
Let’s do business
Hey I liked your video here on the 208. I got one a year ago and agree, mine is an amphibian (I subscribed, conversely maybe check out my channel someday). Look forward to seeing more of your upcoming videos.
Short bus.
Thanks for watching!
It’s a Baby Van
WHAT IS THAT HUMP
De-ice fluid storage tank.
This video started out awesome until you didn’t spend the extra $20 on a prop filter.
Yeah agree. I hate the way that looks. I got the filters right after that video. Working on a Baron video and forgot the filter on some of it. Hard to watch!
Flying with Rich After reading my comment, I didn’t mean to come across super critical because I think there’s definitely awesome value to your video as us guys who fly the 172 or 182 For the most part would probably be very intimidated to think of flying something like that! But got my Garmin VIRB they sell an cheap prop filter for like 30 bucks !
Thanks for watching. I’m with you on the filters. How do you like the Virb?
Money is not going to save you .
