Andrew. Thanks for making these videos. I’m 51 years old, 5’9” 160lbs and a +1. What you are teaching is exactly what I’ve gotten back to after years of being off track trying to rotate hard and side bend. My back has still not fully recovered. After rediscovering this approach my game started turning in the right direction. Your videos are giving me great confirmation that I’m working on the right thing. Effortless speed is the way to go! Thanks again. 😀🏌️

JD…same age and hdcp and I couldn’t agree with you more! Played as a strong grip/body rotation/late release for far too long. Andrew’s and Rinker’s approach has definitely freed me up. I’m almost certain I could play w/ my feet together and just use my hands and arms and be around par. Keep grinding! 💪

We’re on the same page! I’m 52 and although I’m a Pro a keep a handicap of (+1) also playing 15/20 times a year! I’ve had back problems and I now swing with very little back pain by allowing my body to respond dynamically to the linear and angular momentum I create with my arms and hands!
It’s a swing for life! Get after it and thanks for watching my videos. It means a great deal to me that they’re having an impact!

Andrew, thanks for the instruction, especially from a senior golfer with back and hip issues. John Jacobs taught the classic two-plane hands and arms dominated swing, with back to the target on the downswing. but he also advocated for a resistance in the lower body to create a coil in the backswing. And this helped generate more power in the swing. Jim Hardy in his Plane Truth instruction noted the difference between the two-plane swing and the more body rotational one-plane swing. He additionally noted that one of the reasons he advocated for the one plane swing was that it put less stress on the back. He gave the example of changing PGA professional Don Pooley to a one plane swing because he had suffered back and arm injury from the stress of the two-plane swing. I think your instruction combines the best of both. I am not talking about swing plane, I think the high hands and arms swing plane is the best for a senior golfer to generate clubhead speed. It seems to me that you are showing how we seniors can still create decent clubhead speed using the upright swing, but without as much of the coil or resistance between the legs and upper boby as was taught in the past. We still will require the correct sequence, with the correct timin, but I think a somewhat "looser" body that still helps the golfer stay in balance throughout the swing is what we seniors and super seniors will need to continue our wonderful journey with this great game of golf. Again, thanks for your work.

Thank you for taking the time to write this comment. So many salient points in there for others to learn from. Your golf IQ is superb sir!
Bottom line, you have to find what works for you! I don’t believe in club focused instruction any more than body focused instruction. The idea that one size fits all is absurd in my opinion. The best coaches find what works for each individual.
I do believe that for most, swinging the club freely and having the body react works very well. For many, focusing on body dynamics works well!
Saying that one way is right and the other wrong is putting yourself in a box as a “method” coach! The key is making a foundational change the positively influences - ball contact, direction, speed or a combination of the aforementioned! Any golf instruction that doesn’t influence these KPI’s is nonsense! Nothing worse than swinging better and hitting it worse!

I can feel forces as well as the club pulling my chest in pitch shots only if I maintain trail hand knuckles behind my wrest through the swing, consequently a manipulation.
Can you speak or explain 3 issues: the kind of hinge of trail hand, shoulder extension for handle depth, and lastly the calibration of lead hand strength on different clubs.

Good stuff! I’ve had a strong grip for years, so, just went into the garage to practice what you demonstrated in this video. Just for fun I switched to a neutral grip. And low and behold it feels much easier to get the L to L . Is this my imagination? Or do you recommend this with this swing style? I’m 57 and just can’t swing the club in the style someone like Milo Lines teaches. Plus I’m built closer to Colt Knost vs Jordan Spieth 😎

    • @AndrewEmeryGolf
      @AndrewEmeryGolf  7 месяцев назад +1

It’s all about match ups when it comes to release patterns. It doesn’t affect the transition which will always require the arms to work down in front of the body prior to releasing.
However as a general rule a much stronger grip will require more body rotation, and right side bend along with an extension release pattern. This suits higher swing speeds from more dynamic golfers who wish to stabilize the face (Milo).. who incidentally is a phenomenal coach!!
A more neutral grip doesn’t require as much body rotation or right side bend. It pairs well with more glide and forearm rotation which in my opinion is easier on the joints! It also transfers speed to the club head for golfers with slower swing speeds! Bottom line - find what works best for you!

Most instructional videos remind me of applied physics. How can the human brain absorb and recall everything we hear and see? It can’t. You do a very good job of explaining that it doesn’t take a lot of swing thoughts to put the face on the ball. I always go back to the melhorne grass cutting drill to get the L to L effect and it will always bring my brain back where it needs to be. Thank you, Andrew.

Hi Salvatore! Great question. You’re still going to release the golf club. Don’t make the mistake of dragging the handle.
However you’ll want to release your speed into lead wrist extension rather than rotation! Easiest solution is to hit fades! It’ll minimize you’re ROC (Rate of Closure) which will get you in trouble if you have a very strong grip!

If you don’t pair the hinging motion with an appropriate amount of body rotation you’ll get steep. Remember that you need some depth in order to approach the ball from the inside.
