Oddly enough, the AWD actually improves its fuel mileage. Unlike most of the trucks in-game, the P12's fuel consumption doesn't increase with the activation of its AWD. So by having the AWD on, it can pull itself easier, burning less fuel.
The only times I do switch off AWD is on paved roads to be honest. It does make a very minimal difference in fuel burn almost to the point where its not needed. Without AWD on offroad parts ya I'm with ya on that its not as efficient. Great point! Thank you!
I bought this truck on my first playthrough and it helped in Michigan with logging. In Alaska I used it as a mobile repair and refuel truck for scouting then was back to logging. Yes the truck got stuck a lot, but I didn't really care. It sounds amazing looks amazing and is one of the few trucks that can self load long logs. In my opinion it is worth having as a early logging truck, just take the time to plan a route to avoid steep hills if possible.
I like this truck for two of its applications: heavy rescue vehicle with the big maintenance add-on and the long logs hauler w/crane. The only other vehicles capable of doing so are the Azov 73210 and the International Paystar 5600 TS, but they have much smaller tires. Fun fact: it used to have an unchangeable stock front bumper.
That’s a good use for this truck as well. Yea it’s old bumper could not be changed and had collision issues. There also are more trucks that can use the logging crane & long log attachment as well. Two off the top of my head are the P512 & the Brigadier I believe.
@@NProvince wait, what? the Brigadier? surprised... I didn't buy it because I didn't like its fuel consumption and tippiness with that tuned custom suspension, allowing only 46" tires (tested on an unlicensed copy). Strange, it doesn't look that long at all.
I sold all the vehicles from Black River, Michigan to get a P12. I was only level 3 or so at the time. That's over 60 in-game hours ago, and I'm still driving it. Barely upgraded. If I didn't occasionally need a flatbed truck, I wouldn't even know why the other trucks exist in the game.
Because the 745c can't mount the maintenance add on I sold it and the BM17 to get the P12. It's amazing as a rescue truck. I've had two complicated and difficult rescues successfully completed with the P12. I also used it to completely scout two of the Alaska maps, reaching all of the watchtowers and revealed upgrades. The thing's a boss.
As a motorsports and auto enthusiast, the math behind some of the physics in this game bug me. The P12 is listed as almost 4 and a half feet longer, is 6x6, and is somehow 11,000 lbs lighter than the P16. The P16 is listed as almost a foot wider, which may explain a small portion, but lacking a live front axle and the accommodations for this would quickly wipe that difference away. Also, they both use the same final engine. But, the P16 is frequently said to have "better pulling power." The smaller, somehow, way heavier truck has better 'pulling power' with the same engine? This is rampant across this game, with trucks like the Loadstar weighing a resonable 9,900k pounds while the Apache is just about half the weight at 5,300 lbs. Don't get me wrong, I love the game and just being nit-picky I suppose.
Ah yes. I think that is a valid argument. That’s a good example with the Loadstar and the Apache. Pertaining to the P12 Vs. P16. As explained in my Mudrunnin Tips video I talk a lot about grip, weight and how weight adds grip. So the P16 is heavier, has better tire codings and also due to its lack of AWD all of that 210k torque is forced to rear axles via always on diff lock. The P12 has always on Diff lock too, and one could argue that you can simply switch off AWD and have similar results, but the P16 has weight and coding on its side. Real life versions Vs SnowRunner is definitely no correct. To be honest I wish they both were given a stronger engine so they wouldn’t have pulling power issues. They are just so heavy and the fact is the engine while it’s strong doesn’t give them a lot of power to weight overhead. Oh don’t worry.. I’m super nit-picky over this stuff man. Lol

I had a dream where this truck with the OHD tires had no duallies on the right side, but had duallies on the left side 😂 but good truck overall and good for early game
I really tried to like this truck. But when I was pulling a load of long logs up a hill and it didn't have the power to do it multiple times I had to put it aside
That is the trouble of the P12 is with heavy loads. It’s such a great option because of its addon capacity, but it’s so heavy that it needs an engine upgrade
It's too bad about the engine on this truck. I had both medium log add on and medium log trailer in Maine and had all kinds of trouble on the hills. I love the look of the truck it just seems like an old work truck nothing fancy. I love the size of the tires and size of fuel tank. But can we please get an engine upgrade. Ya that’s the thing with the P12 is uphill power is kinda low because it weighs so much. A larger engine like the westerners V16 would be a nice addition. Still a really good vehicle and one of my favorite crane trucks
Hi Nathan, pretty amazing job with these videos. I completed the game once in normal mode, and now i am ruling Alaska in hard mode, so i have been playing some hours haha. Your vids are great, keep it up! I completely agree with your pros and cons for the P12. Thank you so much! I appreciate that. That is a good many hours into the game. P12 is a great truck and I even bought it on my hardmode as well, but it’s just one step from being great.
Yeah this really aggravated me about the truck, especially for the price. Pacific trucks were primarily logging trucks, geared for very low top speed to have oodles of torque, and there are plenty of videos and pictures of them pulling 4-5 log trailers up some pretty significant grades. I bought the P12 and fully upgraded it, along with medium log frame + medium log trailer. I did find that it was among the most stable medium log haulers in the game, but it was just absolutely done in on the first medium incline it encountered on hard dirt. Had a "YOU HAD ONE JOB" moment, then immediately sold it and never looked back.
2024 player here, I found the P12 very unstable and hard to drive in mud/snow/swamp/everything difficult. furthermore in his main role, - altough fully upgraded - with the multipurpose add-on or the superheavy crane, they affect badly his stability. for me it caused more damage than the pros it has
Per the code the P12 is actually pretty stable. You’re also using 2 very top heavy and heavy in general addons. Most vehicles are not impervious to those addons effects to center of gravity. I started playing with p12 and p16 (ignored in the past). I use OHD I and Westline V12 M900 for P12 s.t. it has a close setup to p16. What's weird is that with logs on its back, P12 could mysteriously stop spinning its wheels (L/L+ ) going uphill but P16 seems not to behave like that. Have u observed similar thing (if so, u know the reason?)?
I have seen this a little actually. I showed this on a recent video “how gearboxes increase torque”. So something I have found is trucks that have trouble with climbing power or over Power to weight. It seems they can still do well with weight on wheel instead of pulling weight. I explain this a little on my trailer review. Essentially the more weight transfer to the tire is greater than pulling weight behind you. However there still is a threshold that the vehicle just won’t overcome. I hope that helps. For the P16 I’m not sure why it would still lock like that but I’ve seen it. I believe they both need more power at the end of the day
I'm not a fan of the p12 sold it fairly quickly after buying it it's just so gutless in my opinion. So many times I've got it in low- with not even a heavy load and upgraded engine and its just stuck because it doesn't have enough power to spin the tires they're all just jiggling back and fourth. I love the p16 it's one of my favorites of all time but the p12 was a disappointment for me.
A lot of folks share this same sentiment. Throughout this channel I’ve shown the P12 moving very heavy loads and even on uneven terrain with success.
