At the time he return to Japan he build an incredible well tuned arsenal of movements, who made him an instant success. But that was the result of many years of development in both sides of the world. He still is a model for many wrestlers worldwide.
Character came from the Anime series Tiger Mask. His style was developed from Gotch's training and Inoki's pro wrestling mentality. At the core he is a Japanese style shoot wrestler that focused on the martial art aspects of the sport.

I think todays wrestlers lose the plot, all these acrobatic moves tiger mask does is still in the context of a competition. Too often today matches lose the feel of competition and more of a tumbling routine.

Why is Misawa here at all. He was a great normal wrestler but did not have the unique physical abilities of Sayama or the European technical wrestling skills. Not on the same level in terms of what he could do athletically and how precise this dude was
Selling him way short, dude. I would agree that none of the other Tigers ever matched Sayamas original style and his speed and agility, but Misawa probably got the closest. Look at the catastrophic matches Kanemoto had. lol
