Thanks! I have a 2010 XC90 and I was completely dreading the whole "what if I get a flat scenario". Had no clue whatsoever. Your video accomplished exactly what you had set out to do which is to keep another XC90 owner from experiencing your same frustration having to learn this in a stressful situation. Will share on reddit r/volvo !
Thanks for the info. Helping someone who's stranded & hopeless, saving their time is very precious. All their blessings toward you & your family, Indeed.
tire change 101. Videos like this are so, so needed. But because they're so obvious to many of us, no one bothers to make them. I'm a 2006 XC90 owner and I'm always trying to capture stuff like this. Thank you Mark, you probably have no idea how many people you've helped with this video. :-)
Brilliant simple instructions video about the xc90 tyre change nightmare that will surely occur. Thanks to Mark I am now confident to attempt this now I know about the spare access. Many thanks
Tip: buy a socket the size for your lug nuts and a breaker bar. Keep these in the truck. Chances are you’ll need this combo to loosen stubborn lug nuts. Make sure the tire shop torques the lug nuts properly. Look up the number and make sure they do it right. In my family, no one was allowed to start driving until they could change a tire on their own. For most cars today (unibody) only place the jack at the proper jack spots - otherwise you may damage the vehicle. Keep your tires at the proper air pressure. Check the tire pressure and their condition often. The batteries in the TPMS sensors typically go bad in a few years. Can be expensive to replace them. A tire pressure gauge is cheap, tires are expensive. Carry a portable air pump with a built-in pressure gauge. Most plug into the accessory plug. This might get you to a shop without having to change the tire on the road. These items are inexpensive and can be bought at any auto parts store.
Ahhhhh thank you SOMUCH!!!! I couldn't find the spare ......im SO GLAD you made this video! For real.....THANK YOU!!!! you just saved this single mama from having to pay for a $120 tow!!!!
Thank you sooooooo much for making a vlog on this topic!!! It just saved me! Also my 1st time to attempt to change my tire, not so fun in a mall parking lot when it’s 93°f. 🥵
Really helpful- it’s a really straightforward system but I’ve not had a car with the spare wheel hoist before. And I totally missed the hook extension thing in the toolkit . Thanks from Australia!
Tks for sharing 👌🏻🙏🏻👌🏻... Helped a lot, had no idea how the lowering system worked, actually didn’t know the tire was underneath the car. God bless! 👌🏻
thanks for this very helpful video i have an 08 xc90 in same color as yours and always wondered how to remove the spare tire. i wouldve never guessed it was lowered from inside the vehicle lol
The piece you said “Isn’t necessary” May be the most important if your lug nuts are tight. Screwing it on the end of the tire iron as instructed by Volvo will give more torque when trying to remove the nuts. They are too tight usually for just the short wrench.
good info as i'm looking at a XC 90. Your lighting was going from Dark to light--You might do the same video with proper lighting because folks need this info. Looks like the 90 has a Full Size spare--NICE! Mikey in Sequim
good video...I would just like to add before jumping on the lug wrench I would spray lubricant on the the thread, and then jump on it first lightly 3 or 4 times to let the lubrication work its way on the threads , and then increasingly more. Probably not very likely. they would break ..BUT if I don't have to chance it, I would not.
Greetings from UK, Fantastic video just what I’m looking for. I noticed it’s a “space saving tyre” do you have enough room to put the wider regular tyre up underneath until you get home?
Notice how many videos you have to go to in order to find out the size of the lugnuts or the size of a socket used to remove them. Note, not all lug nut wrenches come with the right size to remove or install lugnuts so check before you leave home and get a flat tire. Make sure you have ALL the pieces to change a tire, as well as the jack.
Just to make you all aware just incase the inevitable happens of a puncher on your XC90 if you have the R-Design model it will not have a spare tyre because the double exhaust system takes up that space. So always make sure you have a puncher kit. 👍🏼
Can the XC90 carry a full size spare instead of the donut, or is the full size is too heavy for the pulley to hold? Has anyone done that & never had an issue?
I'm staggered how is everyone getting their jack out so easily mine is just stuck . Everytime I pull it Jams into the battery and has no give upward.. Nvm got it
Sometimes I think I'm the only one that reads the owner's manual when I buy a car. Then I check everything it talks about, and I always find the spare tire pressure way too low. My dad was raised on a farm and was a fighter pilot. He told me I was responsible for everything myself about what I drove.
This good video would be a better video if the camera wasn’t constantly adjusting its exposure setting to the suns brightness rendering the interior of the vehicle an absolute black void at key moments where you’re trying to point out things. Less auto, more manual adjustment use on camera. Also, avoiding having the sun in the background of your shot is a good alternative if you don’t have a good enough camera.
Good video but i know from my experience that after changing the tire by themselves one should always later go to a car shop to use power tools to tighten the bolts of the changed tire. If one only uses their muscles to tighten the tire, that tire might loosen up and the tire will fall off
ralph lauren Usually the torque spec on lug nuts for a passenger vehicle is between 70-85 ft/lbs. You could easily reach this torque by hand. Always use a torque wrench to verify proper spec.
Using "shop" power tools to tighten wheel nuts/bolts is INCORRECT. The tool provided by the maker is the correct length to give sufficient torque. Maybe some women lack the strength to undo them, but using the foot to step on the tool should be sufficient: If not, then you can bet some shop has overtightened them....which could STRESS and WEAKEN the studs/bolts.
WARNING MUST WATCH MUTED BECAUSE OF INAPPROPRIATE MIND NUMBING VOMIT INDUCING BACKGROUND MUSIC I shut off the sound and turned on subtitles .What is wrong with you people who need this constant background noise? I enjoy reading textbooks and technical manuals because there is no inappropriate background noise.
@@robbiewilson157 If you check the doorjamb on the driver side it will say if it's suppose to be a spare or not XD Mine don't said it isn't suppose to have a tire, but have a tire foam and an air pump D:
@@Alucard45000 I know I'm 9months late on the scene here 😁 if you have the R-Design model it won't come with a spare tyre because the double exhaust system takes up that space 👍🏼

Getting the spare back in its spot is a two-person job: one to crank, one to position the tire.

wow neva guess that 100 years ...be up under there tryin figure it out.... those swiss people
Does it fit a full-size spare?
Do you know if there is enough clearance to put a full size spare in the well?
It’s too big to fit under there.
Sometimes I think I'm the only one that reads the owner's manual when I buy a car. Then I check everything it talks about, and I always find the spare tire pressure way too low.
My dad was raised on a farm and was a fighter pilot. He told me I was responsible for everything myself about what I drove.
The jack shown is not the jack that came with my Volvo although the wheel wrench was not the right one either, wrong size.
That has to be the rustiest spare tire I’ve ever seen. I wonder how’s the rest of the car underneath!
