Admittedly one of the most frustrating tasks i've done on a motorcycle, but here's the Ohlins spring swap while on the F11 (Aprilia RSV4 RF1100 Factory)

Having the pull up tool makes things much easier. You got the job done though.

didn't know there was a tool for that? this was probably the most aggravating job i've ever done on a motorcycle in my life.

FYI you won’t damage the bottom if you lower the bike after loosening the caps. I race and have been instructed by my suspension tuner to do it that way. That is how I get the swap done in minimal time. All the pros do it that way as well due to limited time in hot pit when doing practice.

making sure i understand, you lower it after loosening to help the springs come up, but you still have to hang the front to get the new springs back in, right? they're hard enough to install hanging let alone under compression at the bottom, correct?

    Thanks for sharing!
Do you know for what min to max rider weight the stock springs are designed for?

no, i don't know the limit or even where to look for that besides the AF1 forum maybe? my 220 lb was way over i'd guess the max for stock springs would be in the 180-190 range, but again, you'd have to ask someone like an aprilia dealer for sure.

Good to hear it was helpful! the final suspension adjustment video should be in the link in the description. lots of learning along the way went into that one too!

    How many pounds of spring?

I don't know what stock or these were. I'd just bought a set of ohlins for the bwms1k from Mike at Kyle Racing, so i just gave him all the specs and ordered the springs from him per his recommendation. Great guy, super knowledgeable.

you're welcome. it's one of the most aggravating jobs i've ever done on a bike, but it least it gives others a start on the process.

started laughing everytime you started cursing . . . then you confirmed as i suspected ; bitch of a job - Forks , Tyre Changes & anything inside the engine (other than clutch plates / springs) bikes going to a mechanic , I dont have the patience but do have the skillset to work on bikes

no lie, that is absolutely one of the most frustrating jobs i've ever done on a bike! the original footage was crazy long and i cut down to the basic tasks minus the pile of Fbombs it took to get it done!

It would have been 10x easier to just remove the forks completely and do all the work on a bench, then put everything back on.

i wondered about that, but i didn't have a fork vice, so i used the bike as the vice. was the most aggravating job i've done on a bike in decades.

I did it on the bike and without loosening the wheel. First lifted the bike in the front unloading the wheel, then raised the wheel to free the internal of the fork. With a lock ring plier I accessed the nut and disassembled the spring. Easy peasy 🥲
