    Yes - Harrison invented A timekeeper but not THE Chronometer. This was invented by Arnold and from 1780 were used on ships throughout the 19th century to establish Longitude.

      Although Harrison’s work was superb and the basis for modern navigation, you can understand why the board was not as impressed as we think it should have been. Even after the chronometer was invented hardy any ships had them as they were so expensive and hard to get. The solution the board favored was the lunar distance method which used a sextant to determine time from the stars and moon position. This was used for years.

    A story about the chronometer that shows a guy using a sextant. Great choice. Next, how about a story about the sextant that shows an image of a chronometer?
