  • "It Was A Dark and Stormy Night."
"The pen is mightier than the sword."
    "Pursuit of the almighty dollar."
Phrases we've all heard, but Edward Bulwer-Lytton, the Victorian author who originally wrote them down is now little remembered, even in literary circles.
Join Gareth Preston as he explores the life of this intuiging figure and the apparent contradiction of how a man who left a suprisingly large mark on our culture has somehow faded from our collective memory.
In this documentary you can find out how beef tea is related to Nazi occultism, explore the roots of Hollywood's love affair with the disaster movie genre, and how Charles Dickens' "Great Expectations" came to have a happy ending!

Thank you a million times over for this documentary. I live in the U. S. And am a big fan of his. Zanoni has made a Big impact on my life. It made me cry even after the second time reading it. Remember now that he said that Zanoni " it is a truth for those who can comprehend it, and an extravagance for those who cant".
I want to share with you another tidbit of info about Zanoni. I read in an old English book at the UNLV library in Vegas about Lytton attending a seance and the channeler said to him "I am the spirit that influenced you to write Z" (Zanoni of course). True story. James in the U.S.😇👹✌

Have Often Imagined I Could One Day Properly Produce And Direct #LastDaysOfPompeii -~ Perhaps To Be Done As MiniSeries, Too Much To The Story, Such Brilliant Character Development; It Has Been Difficult To Bear Any Haphazard Facsimile. The Man Taught Me So Much; I Am Forever Enamoured And Grateful.

Mary Todd Lincoln was an avid reader of Lytton's and seems to suggest the reason she was considered off her rocker. Oddly todd in Deutsch means dead. I have a PDF of Zanoni with her name in the scanned book but only part two. And the strange parallel between E.B.L. and Abraham's marital affairs.

I loved the video and so happy to see Lord Lytton get some well-earned attention but was anyone paying attention to the shoes the actor playing him was wearing? 😂 A pair of men’s black dress shoes wouldn’t have killed anyone.

Manly Hall was viewed by the media in the 60's as a fringe lunatic. The secularity of the pretentious.
