I've seen couples plaster and decorate chateau and houses however this couple have taken an old farm house and made doors and windows ; propped up floors; built extensions and created arable land which they planted. Certainly deserve more followers. Amazingm
Hi Tracy &Budo. I have always been fascinated by carpentry and how things are made. Budo, you are an artist! I think you should be teaching these classic methods in a school. We had Venetian windows in my old childhood home and I remember my Mother trying to fix them if the weight fell or the string broke. Usually she couldn’t and we’d put a piece of wood there to keep the window open😅.
Hello guys ! Very late in watching this one ,but always enjoy your posts. Just thought I'd mention that the redwoods are in northern California, I live in the very southern part of California. They are so different, we are hot and dry here. Even though we are close to the ocean it is a desert climate. All our water is from the north. If they didn't have so much rain, we here at the bottom, wouldn't have any. They don't really like us either, it's all like we are two separate states, but they are stuck with us for now. : ) with all our golf courses, grass, palm trees and weirdos. Speaking for myself : ) Sincerely in San Diego California
Beautiful. I think you would like watching Chateau de Purnon, it is a Monument Historique and every trade working on it are master craftsmen using traditional methods and skills like you. I don't understand why you don't have more subscribers, everything you do is exceptional.
I actually follow Chateau de Purnon and l love watching the master craftsman l have told Budo about them and yes these trades are sadly dwindling away which is a shame 😔 thank you for watching xx
Another fantastic lesson in carpentry Budo when that’s finished and installed I think it will look fantastic and Tracy another great job on the roof tiles just keep it up. You’ll soon be finished. 😊😊😊
Couple of beginner questions Budo... 1 Why have you used different timbers on the bottom of the window? 2. Why have you used a knotty bit on the outside? Is knotted wood more or less durable? 3. Why did you hand saw the ends off instead of using a machine? Was it just too thick a piece of wood or personal choice, or does it give a different finnish? I love sash windows- have had them in my various homes over the years - I love them floor to ceiling - so thst they can be used as a door into the garden which you step through. ... romantic billowey muslin curtains drifting through the opening ...❤
Hi Kim great questions Well on the calls of the windows we always use a hard wood like oak chestnut or idigbo as they are heavy and strong and more resistant to water and root ,the knotty wood is not a problem as long as the knots are tight 😉 but we still treat them with knotting , on the sawing the cill is long and heavy to move over a machine so it's better to cut by hand ✋ 😉 and last of all we had box sash windows when we lived in London that were floor to ceiling and we used to open them and walk out to a balcony they were Georgian to all the best Budo 👍🏻 xx
The windows are beautiful.very few people would have this quality of window in their house. What a treat this house is. So very special. My father in law was a ship right, he was one of the few that could redo the weights of the old houses we rented when young. All gone now.
Mad skills! All your beautiful tools and wood make Mr. Bloke sit here and say “wow, he’s got great tools!’ Tool and wood envy!😂. Such talent between the two of you and the video was calm and peaceful to watch and well edited! 😊❤
Perfection, the two of you seem to take it all in stride, but the things you do to make your farm house beautiful are fantastic. So talented! Happy weekend!
Wow! Such amazing skills and knowledge put into action to create beautiful works of art. Your kitchen is going to be a series of works of art that together form a masterpiece! Looking forward to spending time in your masterpiece, I mean kitchen! ❤
Thank you so much 😊 Daren such a wonderful positive comment and we cannot wait for you and Pam to be in our kitchen enjoying lovely home cooked meals bon weekend ❤ xx
Eeeek ! I'm quite aware this isn't your first time and you still have all the fingers you were born with, but seeing you wiping the jointer table with your hand thrills me pretty much 😱 This sequoia is gorgeous though 👍 The curly chestnut isn't ugly either 😉 Looking forward to see the window on station !
Ping I've worked with machines most of my life for over 40 years and touch wood I've never once had a machine accident it normally accurs when people like health and safety nuts constantly pointing out and bang on to people in the trade who know what and are aware of what they are doing it's also the people who keep mentioning to the people who are doing the work that are the people that are more likely to have an accident in the first place as they don't have the real experience
Hi Budo & Tracy, What do you think of giving the color name for the beautiful stain Palomino Gold ? It's the first thing that came to my mind when I saw your very own special color.
Just can’t stop watching all your expertise, like Tracy I love watching Georgian restoration but did not know about Venetian sash windows absolutely fascinating Budo how do you sharpen your saws and why are they that shape?
Thank you glad you are enjoying our videos sharpening saws is an art in its own right hard to explain here some of my saws are Japanese and are fantastic tools which i love working with all the best Budo 🍺😎👍🏻
Thank you Marianne yes I'm trained as a carpenter & joiner & cabinet maker its a good idea but we can't even get this channel to work well, seems most people don't like watching hard work and how things are made they just want things now and quick then throw it away attitude any way thank you for watching and hope you enjoyed xx Budo
Not all of us, some are still left that appreciate the craftsmanship. It really is artistry, and people pay top dollar for quality, those that know the difference, that is. Thanks for sharing. Always enjoy watching you both. Sincerely in San Diego California
I assume the reason that the bottom sash is made from a different word is because it’s harder and more rot resistant, waterproof than the Redwood? Although I do believe I have heard that Redwood is quite rot resistant in and of itself, most varieties of cedar are, correct? Great work as always, looking forward to seeing it in place! 😊
Hi sylvanaire yes you are correct but the red wood is resistant to weather but it is quite light and soft sills need to be hard and dense like oak chestnut idigbo all so I needed timber that was 3"x9" to make the cill hope this helps all the best Budo xx 😀
A friend of mine is one of the last joiners in our area that still makes sliding sash windows. I'm glad he does but it seems such a shame the skill is fading. keep up the great skill sharing.
Just a heads up guys I'm not always getting notified of a new video but notification settings are on I don't know if others are experiencing the same keep up with the great work 😁👍
Thank you Paul yes many people have been saying the same we think RUclips 🤔 holds people back as there A.I is pretty useless and isn't pushing our channel 😕 but we will keep going for a little longer before we make any decisions to pack it all in and concentrate on our renovation buddy thanks for letting us know all the best Budo 👍🏻
@@FrenchFarmhouseDiaries don't pack it in hopefully they get this sorted out I like to watch the different people on different days to break week up on a night as I'm sat in a field in France renovating a bid country manner 😁👌👍
Other great reasons to choose redwood for window frames. Redwood is resistant to decay, resists termites 40-50 years and doesn't tend to contract woodworm. Without insects dwelling to the core there is less chance of mold and decay.

Your right the knowledge of craftsmen does get lost and its such a shame, who does not want something that is well made and will last.
We totally agree with you 🤗
