    Yes, that is true. At my university we actually do a titration of H2O2 using KMnO4, with H2O2 as titrand and KMnO4 as titrant. Even though the MnO4 ion is strongly colored, before the end point the solution is colorless because all of the MnO4 reacts and disappears. Only when the end pt. is reached does the color of MnO4 persist in solution. MnO4 is hence its own indicator; no other substance needs to be added to visualize the end pt.

    Hi, Thanks for raising this interesting point/question. I always thought the 'titrand' was the solution in the beaker below the buret, but you may make a good point that a better definition of titrant is the solution for which the concentration (or number of moles) is not known. I will research this further.
