I got accepted to penn state Altoona and when my friend asked me why Altoona I was like “helloooo I gotta save money” lol I live in nyc and I want a change so penn state Altoona here I come!
It is a fairly empty city however you're rarely ever in the actual city of Altoona unless you have a class downtown. Usually, I'd always be up at State College.
well, it really depends, from my experience there were not many at Ceder or Spruce, which are the suite-style dorms. However, I did see quite a few in oak and maple, which are the "freshman" dorms since a lot of freshmen are in those dorms.
@@Venusiangirl222 Altoona is ok but it can be boring somewhat. During the Fall and Winter make sure you bring at least two jackets, a light jacket and heavy jacket. When it's cold and those winds pick up, it's gonna be extremely cold. That if you're not use to cold weather. Positive side it has a lot of clubs and it's close to the main campus. Food on campus is ok but avoid their seafood unless you enjoy taking a long trip to the bathroom. Professors aren't bad, most of them are amazing and there a few who are bad. That expected from every college. If you're looking for a job to do on campus that allows you participate in school events and do your homework on the side, go for Gym attendant/student staff member. Pretty chill job and you get paid every two weeks at least. Not to be negative it may get boring because Altoona is a small old town but it's what you make it to be. I wish I could be there to continue my education but I couldn't afford it and stuck in debt. I wish you luck and success. Also don't be afraid to try something new like sports and stuff. Make new friends and if you party plz stay safe and stay away from high schoolers who tries to get into those parties. Those high schoolers are something else in Altoona.
Yeah, there are usually buses that go from Altoona up to state college, and if you have a car even better because at Altoona you're allowed to keep a car on campus as a freshman while at State College you're not. But there shouldn't be issues with you leaving and going to the main campus if you want to visit a friend.
The easiest way to make friends before you get to campus is by going on Facebook searching up "Penn State Altoona class of 2025" or something like that and then join the group page. That's where you'll meet new people, share the classes you'll be taking, and maybe making some new roommates.
Is it Covid it's been kind of dry but to be honest it's really not that bad, Penn State Altoona is actually known for one of the better campuses if you're looking for parties
