- Just a quick and dirty 1cc without any real scoring. Realized I never beat this game before so I quickly rectified that.
Tried to keep rank low for the most part by avoiding most items and powering up very slowly (1 small power item in stage 1 and a big power item in stage 2, 4 and 6). Stocked up on bombs in stage 4 on the big tanks. These will drop a full bomb item if you destroy the threads before destroying the body. After that you want to get the search options at the start of stage 5 and try to keep those for the rest of the game. You get those by letting 5 bomb pieces fall off the screen and then collecting an option. I raised the autofire rate to 30 hertz at the final bosses. You can't go back to a lower autofire rate if you do this and this has an added side effect of the rank raising much quicker, but it really doesn't matter anymore this late in the game. Miyamoto is incredibly fast but has decent damage and rank raises fairly slowly because of his shot.
This run is kinda silly since I messed up a lot of stuff like the stage 3 secret 1-up and forgetting to bomb the flamingos in stage 2.
Raizing is another one of the very well-known and respected companies that developed shmups back in the day and Battle Garegga is pretty much their flagship game.
Raizing games distinguish themselves from other shmups by having tons of secrets, very complex bosses and by the fact that you have to play their games in a very unorthodox way from other shmups.
Almost all of their games are notorious for their ferocious rank systems where the game will quickly become impossible if you try to play the game like a normal shmup.
Pretty much every action you make in the game except for moving around increases the rank. In order to stop the rank from creeping up to neck-height and biting your head off you have to really pay attention to what items you pick up and regularly suicide.
Pretty much during the whole game you are fighting against the rank system. Since the game gives you extends at every 1 million points you are forced in a state where you have to score well in order to survive well since you need to regularly get extends to suicide and lower the rank.
Other Raizing staples include the medals and bomb fragments. After killing a certain amount of enemies a medal will drop, these start at a low value but continue to increase to a max of 10k until one drops off the bottom of the screen at which point the chain resets.
You pick up bomb fragments off the ground and collecting a bunch of these forms a full bomb. The length and strength of the bomb depends on how many fragments you currently carry.

Not entirely true. Sorcer Striker, Kingdom Grand Prix and Dimahoo have been No Missed.
It's just that Battle Garegga, Armed Police Batrider and Battle Bakraid that have the crazy rank system that makes No Missing almost impossible.

Yes, some people have beaten it but honestly, one has to trained HARD to no-miss it.
While me just be like: Oh well, 1cc-ing first loop of OG DDP is still a tough call for me, let alone reaching Hibachi.
So, just as i'm properly getting into SHMUPS (played em before but never been obsessed with the genre like I am right now) and having an absolute blast with this on PS4 and Aleste collection on switch. THIS is by far my favorite SHMUP of all time at the moment!

I am legitimately baffled that actual human beings can play this with any degree of proficiency with the default bullets

It kinda depends on how much I like the game, but generally I just want to get a 'decent enough' score. There are too many games I want to play.

Yeah that was not intended. Dropping medals is never a good thing in this game, as lower value medals increase the difficulty more than higher ones.

Jaimers, how do you play all your arcade shmups? ShmupMAME? I would really love to know
Shmupmame 2.2 has the least amount of input lag to any Mame build I know. It doesn't have good autofire/custom button support though, so for games that require that I default to Shmupmame 4.2.

Is there a reason why you skip a dozen or so small bombs at various points in the run or is it just that you don't want to get them?
Grabbing items raises the rank.
so you just gather the bombs for stage 3 bonus and from there you only grab the items when you need them?
You basically only grab items that you need and weigh them against gain and rank increase. For example bombs help you do score tricks but they also increase the rank. So you only want bombs for tricks that give you a lot of score to offset the rank increase (since score allows you to suicide to decrease the rank again). Small powerup items increase the per-frame rank increase, so you want to avoid those like the plague and only pick up big powerups.
