      I'm currently my own past self because I just started playing the handpan. It was an intimidating instrument since I haven't played this type of percussion before, but your videos have been immensely helpful to get me started. Thank you very much!

      I'd advise myself to record some stuff, because it forces me to write and play an entire song instead of just playing scraps and then moving on to something else when I get bored.

    You are the only handpan player that talks about handpan. So whenever you feel like not playing but recording, please, just talk about all this! Cant really read about this stuff anywhere else. I love this “talk series”

    Thank you, Amy! You made me feel that in a few months/years I might actually get somewhere with this instrument. I love playing, but I constantly felt like I was struggling when I played... but when I saw your video I went back and listened to some of the recordings I made for myself. I have improved in the last few months, and considerably so. Guess I keep moving the goalposts forward without even realizing it.

      Do you know the Dunning Kruger effect? The relationship between confidence and competence... When we have little competence but figure out the first few steps, our confidence sky rockets. But when we discover there is so much yet to learn, our confidence dips, even though this knowledge actually makes us more competent. The better we get, the more we expect of ourselves until eventually we find a happy balance ☺️ even if we can't see it, we are always growing!

    Hey Amy, in my opinion I think this is super cool that you're watching yourself back on a replay and reviewing yourself from a wiser and more experienced place...there's always plenty room for improvement when we are able to watch ourselves on a replay and review our own mistakes...you have greatly improved since then.

    "Cool" vid... 😜. One of my default words too. I have now received my handpan and am playing around with it. I haven't quite worked out how to add bass and rythme to a melody yet but I'm working in it...any tips? X

    • @AmyNaylorMusic
      @AmyNaylorMusic  2 года назад

      Haha, yay, handpan time!! I recommend working on these too elements separately in practice. Try new rhythms, try different exercises for hand independence. Just get your body used to moving in as many different ways as possible, and soon you will find a way to connect everything 💚

    • @chillianchill8603
      @chillianchill8603 2 года назад

    Hey Amy ! thanks for the video once again :) I was wondering, what do you think about playing mainly with my middle fingers ? Is it like a bad habit or will it do the job on the long run ?

    • @AmyNaylorMusic
      @AmyNaylorMusic  2 года назад +1

      I think it's good to play with your middle fingers. Whatever feels most comfortable and affective for you! In the long run, it's definitely worth practicing using other fingers so that you can play fast or more nuanced and controlled when you want to. In these old videos, I'm pretty much only playing with my thumb and middle finger. That was enough for me. Now though, I also use my pointer finger and ring finger, and I feel like I have more control

    Hi Amy, I couldn't find your handpan music on Spotify.
    Would be great creating an album? You can use your RUclips channel to promote your music to have some income 🙂🎧
    My music is on the digital music stores for 2 years and I'm starting to earn some money.
    Next week I'll have my first handpan. Thank you for your lovely tutorials. ❤️

    • @AmyNaylorMusic
      @AmyNaylorMusic  2 года назад

      Thanks Fred, I'll be releasing more information about my upcoming album in the new year. In the meantime, you can find some older handpan music on my bandcamp page (the album is titled "Mellea").
      In my experience, creating educational content and teaching provides a more stable income than releasing music (especially in covid times when I have no gigs!), which is why I've focussed on that for the last few years, to eventually fund a studio album. Gotta pay the bills 😝
      If you're interested in my other music besides handpan, my album "Slacktivist" is available on Spotify / all other platforms, and I've loads of stuff on Bandcamp ☺️
      I appreciate the support!
