From 2013-2016 they combined the ATS and the AWD badge for the ATS4 badge. From my ATS model year 2017 to 2018, they decided to separate them. I’m assuming they changed it because not enough people knew what the 4 stood for, but I’m not 100% sure just a guess :)
Thanks for the explanation. I personally prefer the ATS4 badge. Less clutter, but like you'd said separating them would cut back on the confusion I've seen in a lot of threads. Makes sense.
Yeah I agree with you the ATS4 badge is definitely cleaner and is a little more unique. I ended up just taking the badges off recently because there were too many letters on the back for me. I think it looks a lot better

If you decide to go with badges again, give the ats4 one a try. Just ordered a black one from ebay.
