    So the reason there’s no kiss at the end of the show is not because the author didn’t want them to or anything, but it’s because she just doesn’t know how to draw a kiss scene. Lol

    One thing I absolutely LOVE about this series is how it handles death. The early deaths of Nina and Hughes end up having such a significant impact on the characters in the show. The story does not shy away from dealing with the fallout of death and how loss affects everyone. I feel like a lot of lesser shows would just have moved on and mostly ignored the deaths of characters once they are gone. But not FMAB. It takes a very mature approach to dealing with character deaths and forces its characters to figure out how to live with the consequences.

      Understandable for the manga, but why didn’t the animators do it for the anime?

    If you remember Ed's promise, however many episodes ago, "The next time I make you cry, they're going to be tears of joy, and Al and I are going to be in our original bodies"
    And well, if you pay attention, when Winry greeted the boys here at the end, it was the first time she'd cried since then. And they were tears of joy. And the boys were back in their original bodies. :) Which means Ed kept his promise (just like his vow to not kill anyone, he didn't, Father not withstanding)
    So funny thing about Ed's proposal line here, it actually won a contest! Back in 2010, so shortly after the manga finished, there was a "Words to Propose Marriage" contest held by a little regional art museum in Japan(the Ishigami-no-oka Museum of Art). And someone decided to enter Ed's line to Winry ("I'll give you half of my life so give me half of yours.") and it WON. It was disqualified once people pointed out the source for the quote (I guess you had to make up your own) but like, it literally won a contest for romantic proposal lines. Which is pretty dope.
    I think my favourite character is Greed. I have a soft spot for Hohenheim and it breaks my heart when ppl tout him as just a shitty absent father. Like, nooo, he does love his family and his sons and he *wanted* to be there. He's so much more complex than 'absentee father' trope.
    Hiromu Arakawa is a god at her craft, I can only dream of writing such a tightly woven narrative.

    Scar's redemption arc is perfect. He starts out as a mostly bland villain, a one-note character who is only driven by hatred and vengeance towards Amestris and alchemy in general.
    His encounter with Winry starts to change his perspective, as she represents someone who should have the same anger and desire for revenge (towards him) that he does, but she reacts differently. He begins to question his perspective and what he should be doing as he falls into working with the main crew.
    Ultimately he sheds his drive for vengeance and starts working towards positive change. His arc is capped off by having him fight the literal embodiment of Wrath, and he is only able to win because he has fully moved beyond his anger and fully accepted alchemy. And his story ends with him being set on a journey to help rebuild what has been lost.

    As far as being concerned for how dark the show COULD get, I was terrified that they were going to set up Mustang to accidentally un-alive Hawkeye while pursuing Envy in the sewers..... That Envy would get the better of them with the shapeshifting.

    If you seriously plan on getting Fullmetal ink done I'd suggest either the Flamel (The symbol Ed has on the back of his cloak and Izumi has tatted on her chest) or an Ouroboros tattoo. Both are interesting and unique enough in their own right to justify getting inked, especially if you know about the symbolism behind them, and are instantly recognizable to fellow fans.

      My first ink was the Human Transmutation Circle. FMA 03 & FMAB are 2 of the most important works of fiction to me. The story of picking up and moving forward and learning it is ok to lean on those who care for you has bee so important to my life and making me who i am. I am flawed, i have made mistakes, but at the end of the day i am human and that is all i want to be.

    On the subject of favourite characters; it's just as hard to name a character you truly hated due to character writing flaws ... Characters such as Father Cornelius, Shou Tucker, General Raven, etc, were still well written and used in the right way to make sure you felt something valid!
    So glad you made it through to the end and that you loved it as much as you did! Make sure to the give the movie Star of Milos a watch in your own time and have one more selfish fix of the characters you've grown to adore! :D

    If you are still sad that its over, id recommend the 2003 anime. Same voice actors, the beginning is similar but kore in detail so there is enough different stuff to keep you engaged and then about half way through it takes a hard different turn. Far more somber but still very good

    FMA:B is a great start to anime in general, if not the best. The messages, characters, structure of the story, songs, animation… everything is very well developed and with a good pacing overall.
    With that said, there are several anime/manga that, to me, lack important points and still are incredible and I recommend with my whole heart. NANA is my personal favorite, but it has no end and probably never will.

    I don't even include FMA in my top 10 anime list anymore just because itd always be number 1, it is just in a league of it's own. Glad you enjoyed it, hope you like chainsaw man, I've never seen that one myself so itll be new to me too.
    In regards to the Nina episode, its just a right of passage for FMA fans. In the 2003 one it was done later, and took more episodes, be that good or bad. You kind of had more time to get attached, but yea I would agree Brotherhood kind of rips the band-aid off and lets you know this is going to have some high ups and some dark downs at times, so get ready. It is terribly dark but a great part of the series for as powerful of an impact it has.

  • @Sam97979
    @Sam97979 6 месяцев назад +1

    You absolutely have to watch the movies, and OVAs now! They show some more of their adventures that they had before they finished their journey and got their bodies back, but it's stuff that wasn't covered in the show. I know you are gonna need some time to reflect on all that happened, but if you want more... there's movies too! Oh, and watch the bloopers too LOL.
    ALSO there's the 2003 series to watch as well! It has a different final ending instead of the final fight with Father as they were making it while the manga was still being made, so once they caught up to the comic, the showrunners had to get creative and finish it regardless. You'd definitely enjoy that too. it also has many episodes that show things that were skipped in this more recent show and it's movies, sooo yeah. You ain't done yet.
    This was a great series. I enjoyed rewatching it and seeing your opinions too, I like to rewatch this every year or two and keep me steady. My personal favorite character is Greed, I'm glad he still lives on in Ling, he's the only Sin that deserves it.

      movies? As far as I am aware Brotherhood only has Sacred Star of Milos OVA, in which case yea it happens earlier on in the series. Only other movie I can think of is Shambala, which is good, but don't watch that one before 2003 series. Did I miss one?

    Your review was spot on! It's definitely a show to rewatch, and you'll pick up on subtle things knowing where it's headed. Speaking of not knowing characters' alignments,
    like Hoenheim,- also Scar! At the start, he was the 'villain' for a bunch of episodes, and by the halfway mark, everything had changed! It's so good
    Also, not to forget the OST was phenomenal! That's one thing I always love! I'd love to hear your OST thoughts 🥰

  • @Starfish0.
    @Starfish0. 6 месяцев назад +1

    I loved all of your reactions to this show, oh and I think people already told you but there are extra eps! The ovas, and they get kinda darker too so I think you will like them. And yes you have started basically with the "father" of modern shonen genre, after FMAB the industry of anime changed so you will find a pattern in other modern action animes that resemble fmab in many ways, for exemple making the characters very deep and human (but many people agree that Fmab does it better than any other show
    As you noticed it wansn't as dark as it could be, but the intention was to make each death or bad situation be hold as important and not just to add more impact for the show.
    That's why it is such a good writing, but each show has it's own strenghts, and you still will find great animes, stories and characters in this journey. (The only side effects is that you will find most of nowadays movies trash lol)

    You may want to view two movies for the historical perspective of anime, Akira is weird. Like REALLY weird. The book (manga) is a lot darker, but the movie was pivotal for western likes of Japanese animation. Similarly Ghost in the Shell, which also has a series, but a lot of stuff was based on that movie too, such as The Matrix. Cowboy Beebop, a fairly short series, is beloved and inspired a lot of other movies some of which you probably saw (e.g. Firefly/Serenity is cowboys in space, so basically Cowboy Beebop).
    There are other older anime that also derived the subsequent movies and staples that others followed, for example Dragon Ball, but it may be older and therefore based on social mores that you don't really gel with. Heck, Akira/GitS/Cowboy Beebop may fall foul of that, so accept that some things you just won't grok.
    I would also posit that in some cases you want the abridged version, not the standard, because it has a very different audience intent, the ur-example is Sword Art Online, the original is an Isekai that has a protagonist that is deliberately blank so you can set yourself as them, and they do good things because it wants you to enjoy vicariously doing them, however in doing so it is oblivious to how awful it is in many places because it doesn't bother to look. The abridged version Sword Art Online Abridged fixes those problems but to do so the Main Character is NOT a likeable person, so those who loved SAO for escapism hated SAOAbridged, but those who were all "Ewwww" on SAO for its questionable (at best) moments or disliked its MC for being nonsensically heroic merely for the story to happen, loved the SAOAbridged because the MC ACTUALLY ACTED ON THEIR INTENTIONS, as did others, because they weren't there any more merely to serve as "how heroic our MC is" but as real people undergoing their own story. There is a breakdown of "How to Fix SAO", a two parter you can find on ytube, if you aren't willing to subject yourself to either (or both) an objectionable story or an unlikeable MC (depending on which you watch), so you can garner what abridged can be all about in an hour and a half rather than dozens of hours.

    and sorry to be the annoying pal with another recommendation but... read the manga. take your time though. take your time to digest the story, enjoy other stories too but at some point, please, read the manga. there's so much brotherhood had to skim over! fmab is that story that, as you said, you come back to and it feels like home but you also notice new details that make you feel like you're watching it for the first time all over again.
    gonna miss you reacting to fmab but i can't wait for you to continue your fall down the anime rabbit hole!

    Weeeell, if you like stories weird and dark, go ahead and watch the original anime, where they had to veer of in a different direction because the manga wasn’t done yet. It’s not a bad anime, and the music is great, too, but it’s effing weird and very dark. Not as well constructed. They didn’t seem to know where to go with a lot of it. But still worth seeing.

  • @ssjbargainsale

    On the next watch you should definitely try the Japanese VA. Most people say this is the best english dub and I think I agree, but just because all dubs are so bad that this one being ok goes a long way.
    The one thing about Brotherhood that I dislike is the first 10-15 episodes being so rushed because it was covered in 2003. It's like "ok guys you know what happens here, lets just get it out of the way!". Its not a big deal if you did watch 03 but for me makes it feel a tiny bit incomplete.
    As for anime recommendations, if you want a different vibe from the ones you are watching/plan to watch, Kaguya-sama Love is War is my favorite romcom (even non anime). It's pretty good

    • @Vael221
      @Vael221 6 месяцев назад

      Oh yay it's been a while since this discussion came up so just tossing this in again. Brotherhood is in no way shape or form rushed/altered because they "already covered it" in the 03 adaptation. It is in almost every way exactly as originally paced out from the manga, with the one notable exception being the Youswell incident which I would strongly argue is only cut because it would kill the pacing between Liore and meeting Nina (and they basically just do the backstory episode there instead).
      The overwhelming majority of the stuff that is different from the 03 version was all original content made for the 03 version to fill the length of those stories.

    • @ssjbargainsale
      @ssjbargainsale 6 месяцев назад

      @@Vael221 I know. I have the manga. I just said it feels incomplete. And the slow paced with filler from 03 makes the pace much better in the beginning imo
