      The Artist.. The music was terrible, acting was over dramatic and dog wasn’t in fur-suit…. 3/10 it’s closer to a 2 than a 4. Hundreds of Beavers is an absolute spectacle for the eyes. The comedy is classic. Presentation is absolutely gorgeous. I love when the guy goes through a CGI circle in the ice. The sound mixing was unlike anything I have ever heard in my life. There was somethings that I noticed was wrong, but I’m 1000% hopeful that was done on purpose.. and I’m giving this a 🦫 💦 10

    I read 'Michelle Remembers' when I was 11 years old. My parents were very strict, but they let me read anything I wanted to, and that book was not appropriate for an 11 year old. That book gave me night terrors and made me terrified of churches in round buildings, and there was one at the end of the road I lived on so everytime I rode past it I would close my eyes and pray for help. What a terrible book.

    • @REDDAWNproject
      @REDDAWNproject 9 месяцев назад +2

      why should he? he's an artist, he's entitled to release the version he wants.
      Its not like the old version doesn't exist, you just are malding that its not in 4k because an artist doesn't want to release the version he's not happy with.
      Ironically, you guys are the ones who actively hate art if you want to force artists to release remastered versions of art they hate. Its like begging picasso to scrape off layers of his oil paintings; or forcing a writer to re release an old version of a book.

    • @Schellnino1994
      @Schellnino1994 9 месяцев назад +1

      @@REDDAWNproject Please show me where the old version exists in any capacity (aside from acquiring old 35mm projector reels and buying a 10k dollar set up just to play one film.) or having to download a "fan project" such at Harmy's "despecialized edition" (because I have not been able to find it at all!)
      No, actually the reason we say this is because when George released his 1997 special edition he went out of his way to delete any record of the old version. Its almost impossible to find StarWars in its original hyptonic 1960's surreal throwback. Now, they are all "video-game" in nature (which isnt necessarily bad, just sucks that they dont allow people to see the thing they fell in love with and instead only allow to see what it has become!)
      And you make an interesting argument about art, should we always listen to the creators decisions regarding their intellectual property? Should people who had seen Star Wars before the special editions not be able to criticize what they once loved and all the negative decisions that impacted their falling out with it? Is ART owned by the person who created it or the person who experienced it and when does it become ART?
      Emily Dickinson famously said to BURN her work after she died, and luckily, we didn't listen. Now she is regarded as the greatest poet to ever have lived; good thing we DIDN'T respect her dying wishes, as the ART would have gotten lost to time.
      Just food for thought :)

    • @Schellnino1994
      @Schellnino1994 9 месяцев назад +26

      @@REDDAWNproject if Picasso asked someone that he SOLD ART to if he could have it back and then once given it back, chooses to paint 3rd grade level water-colors over top of once called "masterpiece" and tried to get people to have the same appreciation for it, we would all be like "Can we please have the good version back? Can we have the mastful painting and not the 3rd grade level drivel"
      Your analogy of him doesn't quite work as StarWars was already shown to the world and people like(d) it better.

    • @REDDAWNproject
      @REDDAWNproject 9 месяцев назад

      @@Schellnino1994 who did george sell the rights to his art to in 1997? 2004?
      Or in 1980? Or the half a dozen times he made tweaks before the "special editions" ever came out? That's the dumbest part; you don't even know what version of the original movies you even want. Do you want the theatrical version of empire? Which one? The version 20 minutes shorter? The one with the entire ending scene reshot? The one with surround sound and more dialogue or mono but missing some C-3P0 and Han Solo dialogue?
      All those were released in 1980 during the same theatrical run.
      He owned the rights. It was his creation. You were just given a temporary license to watch. Like every movie ever. You don't buy the rights to a movie when you buy a ticket, you buy a lease to look at that release of a movie. What you're saying is the equivalent of saying "i bought a museum pass to look at this picasso; I DEMAND THE OLD BEAUTIFUL DRAFT BECAUSE I NOW OWN THE PAINTING". You think he now draws it like a 3 year old? Fucking good for him. It still isn't yours. You can look at an old picture of a previous draft if you prefer it. That's all you are entitled to, because he doesn't and shouldn't have to make anything he doesn't want to.
      Even post disney, George made a part of his contract that his movies are his. And honestly? Good for him.

    Was waiting on your review of Talk to Me. One of the best things about it for me was how realistic the use of social media was in it. Leave it to people who know how social media works to make a realistic depiction of it haha.
    I think the only odd criticism I found here was that the characters were idiots and plot was preventable when we’re talking about all the characters being teenagers here, like yeah, teenagers are idiots and will do dumb and preventable things. There was a pretty blatant undertone that the embalmed hand and the viral excitement around it was supposed to represent peer pressure and drug use. Like most of the preventable things in the movie were moreso around stuff like, the youngest ones wanting to mingle with the big kids and the big kids cheering on the first timers like it’s nothing when they have no idea what they’re messing with. Reminded me of the weird peer pressure culture I experienced in high school.

      I think the difference is between being unbelievably dumb and realistically dumb. In Talk to Me they're realistically dumb. Like obviously something bad would happen from [spoilers from here on out] letting Riley use the hand for too long so Mia could talk to her mother. I wasn't surprised that this happened, and it became increasingly obvious to me that Mia was NOT talking to her mother the entire time, but for a grief-stricken 17-year-old, I can see how such things can make one deaf to the voice of reason. In other movies far less effort goes into making characters believably dumb, instead just having them be dumb dumb.

    Mostly agree on the Nicholas Cage thing, but I actually really enjoyed his performance in Willy's Wonderland in particular. Having an entirely physical performance in an otherwise normally scripted film really brought attention to it and got me noticing just how *intentional* it all felt (by the way the lack of speech was his idea, apparently). He's a great physical actor and it really got me invested in the implied life story of this random janitor in a silly B movie. It felt surprisingly lifelike to me as an autistic person. I'm not always very directly emotive and the way I move and act is often a bit at odds with people around me. That's kind of the way the performance felt to me. Taking into account the little hints that his character had a personal connection to the place and likely an axe to grind, the whole character just filled in for me. Like a sort of literal exorcising of personal demons by this mute janitor. The movie probably wouldn't be very memorable without him, but damn if I can't get it out of my head now.

      I agree with this sentiment. I get he's known for being boisterous but the badass polar opposite character he was given didn't detract from the experience. I laughed like it was Tarantino's death proof during characters scenes because it felt so comfy and 'Home'.
    I've met these people, lived these scenes, so seeing these characters for whom I see so many of my own friends suffer is gut wrenching.

    The threat and danger is legitimate, it's also a great analogy to Australia's piss poor culture and treatment of addiction and mental illness. It wasn't a magic hand but I saw quite a few people get fucked up beyond recovery due to drugs and alcohol.
    *Spoiler* The scene when the younger brother tries it and gets fucked up is upsettingly common in Australia, everyone knows someone like that. They took bad pills at a festival, got the wrong tabs, over did the nangs, drunk drove or fucked out on straight up angel's tears mixed with battery acid.
    It had me hyperventilating because I've been there, screaming for someone to call an ambulance while trying to keep a, seemingly possessed, friend from Christoper Reeveing themselves after taking something fucked.
    The characters also aren't dumb, legit, they exhaust every option and act how 16-18 year olds australians would, the entire movie takes place in under a week.
    Australia does and doesn't have a lot of authority. There are normal systems but also and air of 'eh'. A lot of 'the community will handle it' type mentality, many rural town ppolice stations are actually entirely unmanned. Domestic violence and addiction is VERY bad here
    So You have a magic ghost hand that makes you crazy..... welcome to australia.
    There's thousands of people going through an equal level crisis WITHOUT supernatural shit going on and they aren't getting help. If a homeless schitzophrenic cant do anythiong, what hope do a bunch of teens, a week's time and a magic hand have?
    The hand is just a stand in for a giant fucking hole of despair in australia that is VERY real for way too many people

    As someone who watched the Holiday Special in college under decent (not ideal) circumstances, it was a mind fuck. I was laughing my ass off for a half hour straight, before it just wore off. It never got less weird, and parts certainly pick up, but it starts to feel like a bad trip. Like, it’s crazy and wacky and horrific and amazing but to what end? Definitely still watch it and do an Adum and Pals video, you’d definitely get more mileage than me.

    So for Sympathy for the devil, it was shot at VU virtual production studio here in Vegas and VU is supposed to shoot A and B frames where the A frames would be the background and the B frames would be greenscreen. That way they can adjust the the background footage while maintaining the lighting from the LED's. idk how the desync could have happened because as you mentioned they could've adjusted the street footage with the B frame greenscreen. but what was neat was that they booked the studio for 7 days and finished in 5 they used the 6 day for extra coverage and whatnot and they only used half of the day for the 6th day. this technology is very cool but it's still new. VU wanted our school to have a Volume screen installed which is where I learned all this info.

    Nice video. Thank you. You're commentary put a number of films on my radar. I especially look forward to being able to watch Hundreds of Beavers with a group. Raging Grace and Aporia. Holy cow. Should I ever make a film, you're on the list of people I'll attempt to consult with prior to beginning production.
    Content is king. I'll never understand how someone begins to work on a project without it being planned - or without having (talented) others review various aspects of the project... let alone backing films that have budgets of tens of millions of dollars or more. I mean, c'mon. There's NO excuse.
