- Croatia’s World Cup team returned home to a heroes' welcome on Monday a day after their World Cup Final defeat to France. Tens of thousands of fans gathered in Zagreb to welcome the team back after they made their first-ever World Cup Final appearance.

The small country of only 4 million people impressed the world for unyielding fighting spirit. It was a wonderful fight.
Football isnot about population. It is only about 11 starting eleven and 12 subtitutes.
All this talking about population is slightly annoying tbh. I love Croatia and and really enjoyed watch them in the world cup but it's just not so relevant. Small countries can be very strong while huge countries can suck. It's more about the football culture and strong generations. Uruguay is very small but has played really well in the last 3 world cups. Denmark only 5,7 millions with only three players being absolute top quality (Schmeichel, Kjaer, Eriksen) almost eliminated Croatia. And Iceland has like 300k and they won the same qualification group Croatia was in. I know Croatia took revenge in the world cup on the other hand.

@Daniel García it’s easy to say that, being from a country that is known worldwide and excels in some form. For us Croats, our country to most people was unknown until our 2nd time in the final 4. Now it’s the 3rd time being in the final 4, and here we are creating history. We might not have won the World Cup, but for a corrupt nation with 3.8 million people, I’m proud that we did Better than all those more developed richer and bigger nations

Official records of the Croatian police said that more than a 550 000 ppl welcome their heroes, our heroes, Croatian national soccer team at their arrival in Croatian capital city Zagreb from the Moscow after they played the finals in the world cup in Russia and won the silver medal. The airplane which was carrying our players was followed by the 2 MIG combat airplanes of the Croatian national Airforce and first did a flyover the main city square and after that safely landed at the airport. Passing through the 2 water cannons the airplane stopped, and at that moment everything was ready for the celebration that the world has never seen before. And I'm not even joking guys, more than a 250 foreign journalists were at the Zagreb today, ready to send the picture of the celebration through the whole world. and later in the video, you will see what am I talking about. Luka Modric, our captain, winner of the Balon d'Or, golden ball, exit the first, followed by his teammates. All the players went to the special bus with no roof and the 6 hours long journey towards the main city square where the main welcome is going to happened just started. Distance From the Zagreb airport dr. Franjo Tudjman to the main city square Trg Josipa Bana Jelacica is 16km, and usually, according to Google, you need around 27min. by car. It took 6 hours to our team to reach their final destination due to the enormous number of fans along the whole way from the airport to the city square. In the special bus with the open roof, our players had an unforgettable time and celebrate together with the whole nation along the way. Everybody wanted to show the gratitude for the 30 days of extreme happiness and pride, those guys had given us, our small nation. everybody wanted to touch them, take a picture of them or get the autograph on their flags, t-shirts or any favorite sport requisite colored in the red and white cubes.. *The most amazing thing to me is...* There were about 500.000 people in Zagreb waiting and celebrating and not a single serious injury or death was reported. No crowd crush, no crowd collapse. Just few reports of dehydration but that was it. And the celebration lasted for few days until Vatreni visited Zagreb, Split and other cities where their fans were waiting for them.

This was just a short rezime of the beginning of Vatreni's arrival. This journey to Ban Jelačić square which is only 10 miles away lasted for 5 hours. It was indescribable! Croatia has won its independence in the '90's. That being said, our Country is in fact only 27 years old. But we won the third place at the World Cup in France 1998 and now the second place in the Russia WC. The Croatia is a true World champion! Everyone who has watched the WC acknowledges it. HRVATSKA U MOME 💟4EVER! Griezmann learned how to dive.

The route the bus took is from airport to the main square. Usualy with normal trafic it takes about 45-1 h. It took the bus 8 hours. That is how many people were in the streets. Amazing.
