- In the late sixties the Hare Krishna devotees went to Philadelphia to open a temple. They became known for chanting the Hare Krishna mantra and for distributing spiritual literature based on the Vedic teachings.
The current temple was opened in 1976 and the deities Radha Sarad-Bihari were installed a few years later.
There is a popular Govinda's restaurant downtown serving sanctified vegan and vegetarian food.

I recall the early days , A house in West Philadelphia, then a leaky run down building at 10th and Lombard St. then a large house on Chelten Ave. Sankirtan at Broad and Chestnut St. Those were the days... Hare Krsna Hare Rama !
I remember seeing these folks on South Street in the 70s and 80s and parties in the park. Used to terrify and fascinate me as a kid. Moved to Hong Kong over twenty years, but had no idea these guys were still there. Keep on devoting.

I just have one issue with iskon people. You people have too myopic view of Hinduism. Hinduism is not centred on Krishna or should I say Vishnu. Otherwise you are also doing good work.
They follow Vaishnavism only.
