hiking and exploratory trip to PETROVA GORA began with a visit to the remains of the SPOMENIK USTANKU NARODA BANIJE I KORDUNA (MONUMENT TO THE UPRISING OF THE PEOPLE OF BANIJA AND KORDUN)..this monumental structure is an architectural and sculptural masterpiece, crafted from reinforced concrete and clad in stainless steel plates..erected on PETROVAC, the highest peak of PETROVA GORA (formerly known as GVOZD), the monument was designed by the sculptor VOJIN BAKIĆ..the construction of the monument spanned a decade, culminating in its completion in 1982..
in addition to its representative function, the interior of the monument housed a museum with a permanent exhibition related to the PARTISAN MOVEMENT in this region..surrounding the monument, a recreation complex was developed..with the inclusion of the museum, the monument acquired an educational-exhibition purpose..at the top of the monument, there was an observation deck that still offers panoramic views towards SLOVENIA, BOSNIA, ZAGREB,..
likely, there were various other facilities within the monument and its vicinity..
unfortunately, due to consistent neglect and indifference by the state after 1991, the monument and its complex fell into disrepair..the museum was vandalized after 1995, and to this day, the monument continues to suffer damage..individuals have been removing and taking away the valuable stainless steel cladding, while local and state authorities have failed to impose sanctions against the perpetrators, despite protests from antifascist organizations and others..
after exploring yet another monument bearing the systemic negligence of the state over the past 30+ years, we proceeded to the nearby PAULINE MONASTERY from the 14th century, specifically its remains/excavations and the ornithological park PETROVAC..in contrast to BAKIĆ's monument, there is a degree of care here, and despite being centuries older, it remains in much better condition-unharmed..
the continuation of this trip led us to another very interesting location, but you'll have to be patient and wait for our next video..
